DWYER. In and About the City Frank Nemetz was up from San Diego visiting his parents last week. Napoleon Hart and wife are once more at home after a few weeks' visit at San Diego. Antone Hessel, president of the Union Brewing Company, was visiting his friends and transacting business here last week. Erwin Bayha was in town on Tuesday from his ranch at Yorba, accompanied by Miss Rosita and Uvania Yorba, and Miss Herminia Bayha. The annual banquet of the Board of Trade will be held this year on Thursday, January 15th at the Y. M. C. A. building. As interest in the work of the board is growing it is expected this banquet will be a great success. George H. Moebius was in town on Monday from his newly-purchased ranch southeast of town. Mr. Moebius is erecting a residence and barn upon the tract, and will devote his attention to raising a fine brand of Valencia oranges. Wing Fat is one of the Chinamen who is making good in the neighborhood of Anaheim. He has 50 acres in chill peppers and this season's crop will yield him over 40 tons. At $200 per ton he will, therefore, receive $8,000 or better for the shipment. Wing Fat will soon be able to go back to China and live on the fat of the native land. J. S. Hilend was doing business in San Bernardino the first of the week. Ernest Clabaugh was in town from Imperial last week visiting his parents. Miss Irene Mills, a student of the U. S. C., spent Christmas time with her parents. Jess Alexander was taking a lay-off last week and spent the time with his parents here. Leland Lewis, Max Royer and Raymond Nebelung leave on Sunday to resume their studies at the state university. The Anaheim National Bank declared a semi-annual dividend of 3 per cent on Wednesday. Although a new institution this bank is making good. Mrs. A. E. Griggs, who was operated upon for a tumor at a Los Angeles hospital last week, and who was very low following the operation, is considerably improved. A new furniture store is one of the industries slated for Anaheim in the future. It will occupy the corner room of the Masonic block at the corner of Center and North Claudina. Charles Eygabroad and wife have been entertaining Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Pond of Aberdeen, South Dakota, the past week. The ladies both refuse to tell their ages. A special meeting of the Board of Trade will be held tonight for the purpose of considering railway transportation. Amos Wright, for many years a well-known resident of Plancentia, died recently of heart trouble at the age of 75. For several years he was chairman of the Prohibition party of Orange county. Mrs. Frank Montenyohl has purchased the furniture and fixtures of the Iowa rooming house on Hermine street and is now in possession, having assumed charge January 1st. Her husband is the popular carrier who delivers mail to all the people in that quarter of the city. Dr. F. E. Corwin, who recently arrived with his family from Billings, Montana, has purchased 5½ acres in the Davis tract on West street, and will take up his residence there. Dr. Corwin has rented offices in the new Masonic temple on East Center street and will practice his profession here. Saturday night, about 9 o'clock, a difference of opinion between Gregarlo Gonzales and a fellow Mexican resulted in Gonzales receiving a serious wound in the breast. The affair occurred in the rear of the Belmont saloon. The wounded man was found by Officer Germann shortly afterward and was given medical attention. Gonzales either could not or would not give the name of his assailant. His wound was not a dangerous one, being only two inches deep. Hill of the Detention Home, has reported to the Board of Supervisors money spent during December for the Detention Home, as follows: Salary of superintendent and matron, $75; groceries and produce, $63.76; drugs and medicine, $5.57; meat, $5.95; bran and grain, December was the biggest money month the county has ever had, so far as the total of warrants cashed is concerned. During the month the county treasurer paid out $180,001.91 on demands, and $8,603.12 on coupons. In addition to that, he paid $25,438.77 in making his settlement with the state.
