PROOF HAS BEEN OFFERED on this failure of prohibition, not only where it has over a quarter of a century, in Maine and particularly so, right HERE in Southern neighboring communities. Today we bring REAL FACTS and the TRUTH about ACTUALLY IN SUPPOSEDLY "DRY" CITIES.

REAL FACTS and the TRUTH about ACTUALLY IN SUPPOSEDLY “DRY” CITIES.
On this page today is published an article from the Borough regarding conditions in CORONA.
Once more a minister of the gospel brings proof to be led assertion that nowhere and no time has prohibition and one of its avowed objects.
Corona is a prohibition city of 3500 population with LEGAL DRINKING PLACES.
No sensible person can read the extract from this sermon and believe that prohibitory laws have prohibited TRUTH is, DRINKING HAS BEEN INCREASED.
FORTY SEVEN illegal drinking places in a city of Mother Colony?
FORTY SEVEN ILLEGAL drinking places means large number of Corona’s citizens have been FORCED, having sneaks, liars and lawbreakers.
And that conditions are getting worse and worse in after this drastic exposure of illicit whiskey traffic, is shown in an article from the Corona “INDEPENDENT,” August 28th,
CORONA TO HAVE NEW LIQUOR LAWS
After this when you feel tempted to order a barrel of beer you to consult the city marshal and see what he thinks about it before get the desired liquid refreshment.
According to a new ordinance which passed its first reading of the city trustees held Tuesday evening any person desire liquor will first have to apply to the city marshal for a permit liquor. The marshal can issue permits to any person allowing them chase up to a barrel of beer but if he thinks they are buying beer too often he can cut their order down to half a barrel or quantity if he sees fit, or even refuse to let them buy at all. This will be issued in duplicate and the duplicate will be on file in office at the city hall where anyone who so desires may see just why the booze and how much they are buying.
This ordinance has been drawn up for the purpose of stopping liquor selling which goes on here at the present time to a very many predict an early death of this plan. It will be watched by local people.
NOW FOR COMPARISON:
CORONA, SUPPOSEDLY “DRY,” population
1. Has 47,—at least— Forty-Seven, Blind Pigs and Spare cheapest, strongest, rawest whiskey is sold to all men, boys and girls.
2. Gets Not One Dollar of Revenue from all the liquor gally conducted, vice breeding, immoral places.
3. Must necessarily spend an immense amount of hunting down and getting evidence against all the criminals.
ANAHEIM, population approximately 4,000.

1. Has 12 well regulated, highly restricted and licenced ments, and derives therefrom Annually $10,000 in license fees, necessary for the maintenance of our buildings.
2. Is Not pestered by vicious "Blind Pigs" where led into temptation, drunkenness and ruin.
3. Is unquestionably the most prosperous, progressing present high license system, the most flourishing city In the Anaheim Board of Trade pamphlet we find have on deposit more than $1,500,000.00 or a gain the last four months. Our schools are equalled by size in California and offer better educational ado 1000 pupils enrolled. Our churches, nine in num nominations; they all make an excellent showing creasing membership and attendance; several h large their buildings to accommodate all comers.
No wonder that less fortunate neighboring communities ever growing prosperity and progress. But that is should allow a jealous neighbor or a paid agitator—both TAXPAYERS—to come to us trying to force upon us sens prohibitory laws which ARE NOT WANTED BY OUR CITIZENS, OUR TAX PAYERS.

"Men and women of Corona
what are you here for?" asked
Rev Charles Wentworth, pastor of
the First Methodist Church of Corona
Sunday evening, as he clinked
together four bottles of beer that
stood in front of him on the pulpit.
"You are not here. I am sure,"
be continued, "to see this liquor.
You have come out to night to consider the forces behind these bottties of beer, the influences which
prevent the laws being enforced,
which make it possible to go out
in Corona and buy bottles like
these at any one of forty-seven different places where it is sold, in
plain violation of the law."
And the minister clinked the
bottles together again till they rang
like muscle gloves.
The church was crowded. In
the audience were probably 300
men, many more than usually attend the Sunday evening service.
A friend of the pastor had bought the beer for him Friday
night at one of the "blind pigs"
which have become the chief issue
in the municipal campaign preceding
the election of two city trustees, April 12.

Then he paused, and there was
an impressive silence while one of
his parishioners placed the four
bottles of beer in front of him,
after which he proceeded with his
sermon. He made it a matter of
practical politics and urged in
direct terms that the two candidates be elected who are pledged
to appoint a new city marshal who
will enforce the prohibition ordinance and suppress the illegal sale of beer, wine and whisky. The "blind pigs" have become the one live issue of the campaign, and Rev. Mr. Wentworth's ocular demonstraction in the pulpit of the disregard of the law is the talk of Corona.
