We had the pleasure of meeting in Los Angeles on Sunday Mr. Antonio Haas, a millionaire sugar planter of Mazatlan, Mexico, who is stopping at the Alexandria. Mr. Haas is an educated Mexican gentleman, being a graduate of one of California's leading colleges. His family has resided in Mexico for generations and is one of the wealthiest and most prominent in Sinaloa. He is in this country for the purpose of placing a younger brother in school here, and will go to the City of Mexico before returning to his home on the southern coast. Mr. Haas declared that the feeling in Mexico toward Americans as a nation is of the friendliest character. The only sentiments antagonistic to Americans in Mexico are caused, he informs us, by repeated declarations (on the part of some irresponsibles) that the United States is desirous of invading that country and forcing it to cede territory to us. When assured that this sentiment was not entertained by Americans as a nation he admitted that his sensibilities had been touched by many similar assurances which he had been given by citizens of California since coming to this state. He denied absolutely published statements that Americans are being killed in Mexico or that there exists any danger for their safety in that country. Those Ameri-

We carry no announcements of piles or diorrhoea cure interspersed between personal announcements of the doings of society people. The publisher tries to print a clean and wholesome newspaper which may be admitted into the homes of all the people, without fear of causing a blush to mantle the cheek of the most fastidious. As a real live newspaper we think the Gazette speaks for itself. We desire that our readers make comparisons with it along with other newspapers published in the county and we have no fears that their decisions will support us in the claim that the Gazette is the best and most complete newspaper as well as the best advertising medium in Orange county. We employ none but the most experienced journeymen in our establishment, pay them the highest scale of wages and we receive from them the best services that it is possible for us to procure. The Gazette is printed each week from newly cast type composed upon a $4,000 Mergen thaler typesetting machine, and we believe it compares favorably in typographical appearance with any newspaper published in the state. If this is not so, then we must admit that 35 years of experience in the business has taught us nothing. We also exclude from our columns advertisements of girls wanted for employment temporarily or otherwise by traveling carnivals and road shows. We are trying to print a clean home newspaper, chronicling all the news of the week, and the fact that the Gazette enjoys the largest circulation and carries the largest volume of paid advertising matter indicates abundantly that we have in our work the confidence and support of the people. We thank them for this confidence and support and promise our patrons that the Gazette is going to continue publication on these lines if it busts a trace.

The Gazette's Advertising
The Gazette carries the largest volume of paid displayed and classified advertising of any weekly paper published in Orange county. This is susceptible of proof by an inspection of the advertising columns of this paper and those of other weekly newspapers published in the county, and is freely admitted by publishers in the various cities where these papers are published. We make this statement not with any desire to boast, but simply to state facts. Orange county has many valves and road shows.

This is susceptible of proof by an inspection of the advertising columns of this paper and those of other weekly newspapers published in the county, and is freely admitted by publishers in the various cities where these papers are published. We make this statement not with any desire to boast, but simply to state facts. Orange county has many first-class daily and weekly newspapers, and its people are well served by an energetic and upright coterie of newspaper men. To lead all these papers in the amounts of paid advertising matter is a fact that is peculiarly agreeable to ourselves. The Gazette has one rate for all advertisers. That is the way it does business. It prints no large displayed railroad advertising which is payable upon transportation basis. These advertisements find their way into the columns of nearly every paper in the county as well as many other papers throughout the state. One certain railroad company receives tens of thousands of dollars of advertising annually which is payable, not in cash, but in transportation over its lines in this state. A number of papers in Orange county, as elsewhere, carry so much of this displayed advertising matter that it would seem that, at regular cash advertising rates the volume is sufficient to provide railroad travel for a large number of persons from one year's end to another. The Gazette carries none of this class of advertising matter. Such railroad advertising as appears in its columns is paid for at precisely the same rates as are paid us by our local advertisers. The Gazette also excludes from its columns...

DID YOU HEAR about the young chap who got excited at the ball game? The game was close and when the home team came out a winner he turned and hugged a young lady who sat next to him—a perfect stranger. She had him arrested and the judge acquitted him on the ground of unusual and justifiable provocation. The funny part of the story is that next day after the episode 5,000 girls attended the ball game.
This fable teaches that there is strength in numbers and that a fellow with a large family should live in a home of his own amid wholesome and congenial surroundings. Bring us your order for that bill of lumber and lath.
By so doing you bring in the winning run and a home at that.

So far as can be learned here, there is no likelihood that E.A. Chaffee, present superintendent, will resign,但Mr.Lillie's application will be placed on file for future reference.
The starting of a foreclosure suit by the Home Mutual Building & Loan Association against Frank F.Skelly brings to mind one of the most baffling cases that the superior court ever had to deal with. The case is that in which Skelly was tried on a charge of burning his wife to death by throwing gasoline upon her.The verdict of the jury was not guilty. The complaint filed today by Attorney H.C.Head states that on May 20,1909,$2,ooo was loaned Skelly on a note signed by him and his wife,Ethel Skelly.A mortgage was given on Skelly's property at Westminster.
