COMING IN “YELLOW” IT’S GREAT Rudolph Grenke is on duty again in the S. Q. R. store after a siege of the mumps. Miss Carrie Tubach has accepted a position in the dry goods department at the S. Q. R. store. W. J. Elliott and family motored to the County Park Sunday and spent the day picnicing in its shady groves. Johnny Heitshusen came home last week from the state deaf and dumb school to spend the vacation with his parents. Miss Cora Talbert, of Los Angeles, was the guest of Miss Lois Blake several days last week, returning to her home on Monday. Sydmer Ross, accompanied by his wife and daughter, Miss Sheila, left last week for a summer’s vacation in Yellowstone Park. Mrs. F. Flagler Smith, of Placentia avenue, was in this city Tuesday wanting 15 or 20 apricot pitters to care for her crop of 20 acres of excellent fruit. Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Baxter motored to San Diego Saturday, returning on Sunday. The trip was made without a stop for repairs, and a fine outing is reported. Mr. and Mrs. Emil Dumke, of North street, are rejoicing over the arrival of a pair of twins at their home. The youngsters, a boy and a girl, weigh seven pounds each. Vic Browning was in town Tuesday evening from his ranch on West Orangethorpe avenue. Vic has been getting some top-notch prices for his oranges and reports his walnut plantation promising a large yield. R. M. Squier of Los Angeles, son of A. H. Squier of Anaheim, is here a few days for a visit at his father’s home. He has sold his home in Los Angeles and may decide to come to Anaheim to reside. Fireworks for the Fourth. Mr. and Mrs. William Ashley and William and Charles La Deveze left today in an Overland for Elizabeth Lake, 60 miles north of Los Angeles, where they will witness the great Fourth of July races. The South Dakota society will hold its annual picnic at the County Park on Thursday, July 10. A large number of Anaheimers are expecting to attend and renew old friendships and acquaintances. Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Squier went to Santa Ana last Sunday morning and spent the day and night with former neighbors near Tustin, returning Monday noon. They report a good time and say the apricots will soon be ready to "cut and dry." Banks of this city will be closed on Friday, the Fourth of July, and on Saturday, the governor having declared the latter day a legal holiday. Mr. and Mrs. G, W. Hamler and Mr. and Mrs. Dave Hamler drove in their auto to Anaheim Landing and Long Beach on Sunday and spent the day with friends at the seashore. Directors of the Anaheim National Bank this week declared the semi-annual dividend of 2 per cent on the stock of the corporation. The bank has been doing business a year, and has prospered, as the declaring of a dividend so early in the game testifies. Mrs. Catharine Morrow, of Pittsburg, Pa., is visiting her cousin, Mrs. Frank Fox. She will return to Pittsburg in a few days but expects to make her stay in that city short if she can pursue her family to move to Anaheim. Jesse Alexander has returned to his job as railway mail clerk, but is still suffering from the effects of his shake-up in the accident at Pomona a month ago. His run is from Los Angeles to Ashfork, Arizona, a 22-hour stretch. A campers’ rally will be held in the Y. M. C. They returned home in the shades of the evening. Local Woodmen of the World have changed the meeting night for their lodge during the summer from every Monday night to the first and third Thursday nights in Odd Fellows' hall. The next meeting of the lodge will be on July 17, when an open meeting with refreshments, cards and dancing will be enjoyed by the Woodmen and their wives and families. Fireworks for the Fourth. It is to be hoped Mike isn't mixing himself up with revolutionary matters, but those words sound suspicious. Mrs. Louis Feid left Tuesday morning for Los Angeles to spend the Fourth with her mother. Mr. Feid will go up the morning of the Fourth and together they will take a flyer to Venice, returning home in the evening. They will be accompanied by Mr. Louis Zimmermann, a nephew of Mr. Feid. Ben Kraemer was in town on Tuesday from his orange ranch at Placentia. He reports conditions most promising in his section, orange and lemon shipments East the past week having realized top-notch prices in the market. Oranges sold at $7.15, while lemons were disposed of at $8.20. J. B. Neff returned on Sunday from a month's tour of the north, going within a short distance of the Canadian line at Vancouver. Mrs. Neff accompanied him. They spent some time at Seattle, and visited Portland, San Francisco and other points of interest. Mrs. Neff will remain for a week with her mother, Mrs. Park, at the family home at Haywards. The Anaheim Odd Fellows installed the newly elected officers at their hall last evening, District Deputy Grand Master Perry and his staff, from Orange, being in charge of the work. The officers installed were: H. R. Wilson, N. G.; U. S. Amack, V. G.; Charles Hedges, Rec. See'y; Frank Gates, Financial Sec'y; O. T. Cailor, Treas. Herman Dickel received on Tuesday a letter from his son, Arnold Dickel, who for some weeks past has been employed at a gold mine in Placer county, stating that the had fallen one day last week, a distance of 15 feet, and had dislocated his ankle. Arnold was at work on the night shift in the mine and in the darkness stepped into an excavation. He writes that he is again on the job in another part of the mill, his ankle having been encased in a plaster cast. Both Anaheim and Orange will present an unbeatable team in the game on the high school diamond July 4th and the contest will be worth seeing.
