CHRISTIAN SCIENCE SOCIETY
Christian Science services Sunday morning at 11 A. M.; Sunday school at 9:45 A. M.; Wednesday evening testimonial meeting at 7:45 P. M. Reading room open from 3 to 5 P. M. on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday and from 7 to 9 P. M. on Tuesday and Thursday. Church, corner of Chartres and Hedwig streets.
FIRST M. E. CHURCH
Rev. C. H. M. Sutherland, pastor.
Sunday school, 9:50 A. M. Studies in the Life of Joseph. Superintendent, Geo. M. Tedrick. Next Sunday's lesson will appeal to you. The Rev. J. A. Davis, special secretary of the board of foreign missions, will be the preacher for both services on Sunday. Everyone interested in the coronation of Jesus as King should hear these sermons. Epworth league at 6:30. The second and third quarterly conference of the First Methodist Episcopal church were held on Monday evening. Dr. Alfred Inwood, district superintendent, presiding. Before the business session the members of the quarterly conference with their wives had supper together in the league room, Dr. Inwood being the guest of honor. This proved a very enjoyable and sociable function, some 56 surrounding the table. The reports for the first eight months of the year were very encouraging. In this length of time the congregation has paid over $1,100 for benevolence, local and general and over $600 more subscribed. There has been a net increase of over 100 in membership. The district superintendent expressed himself as greatly pleased by the splendid advance in every department.

PRESBYTERIAN
"Alaska, the Beautiful, the Wonderful." A panoramic view of its scenic, commercial and missionary aspects. Rev. H. O. Henderson will tell us all about it at the Presbyterian church next Sunday evening beginning at 7:45. This lecture will be of great educational value and everyone who desires to be enlightened should hear it. The young and the old should come. An unusual feature of this service will be a silver offering taken at the door. Come, and be just as liberal as you can afford. Tell your friends about the lecture, for it will be worth hearing. Bible school at 9:45 A.M. Good music and keen interest in the study of the lesson. Every man, woman and child should attend Sunday school somewhere. Where do you? At 11 o'clock the pastor will preach, taking for his subject: "Watchwords for the Christian Life." In this church it is the constant aim to minimize self and magnify Christ; to preach less denominationalism and more doctrine; to avoid sensationalism and to be serious, sensible, spiritual and Scriptural. If this appeals to you we shall be glad to see you at church each Sabbath day.
GERMAN BAPTIST CHURCH
The young people of the German Baptist church, corner Broadway and Lemon, have been giving some splendid literary programs in the past and will continue to do so in the future. They will give a literary program Friday, June 20 at 7:45. The main feature will be a debate, resolved "That the church of today ought to be more sociable." There will also be other numbers very interesting on the program. Our Sunday school at 10 o'clock every Sunday morning is a very busy and a pleasant place to be for the old as well as the young. The able staff of teachers present the Bible lessons so clearly that it is really a pleasure to listen. Our superintendent, D. A. Wedel, has a wonderful loving way in managing and making remarks about the lesson to the school as well as asking questions, that the little ones think there is no one like Uncle Wedel. Our preaching services, 11 A.M. and 7:45 P.M., are strictly German. The missed the other three, this one will be interesting to you. A cordial welcome extended to all. No evening service. The Sunday school of this church will hold its annual picnic on Tuesday, June 24 at Bay City. The auto truck and private machines will leave the church at 9 A.M. sharp.
PRINCIPAL M’DONALD GETS NEW TRIAL
School Teacher Sentenced to 25 Years In Prison Will Have New Hearing
According to the opinion of the court of appeals, prejudicial error is still cause for reversal, in spite of the constitutional amendment passed in 1910. The constitutional amendment was to the effect that misdirection of a jury, the admission or rejection of evidence, or an error in pleadings or procedure should not be cause for reversal unless the error complained of would result in a miscarriage of justice. This provision is cited in the opinion, just received, that accompanied the order of the court of appeals giving a new trial to R.C. We love to see one another at the house of God on Sunday.

Preaching from 7:30 to 8:30. Theme: "The Scape Goat." Is there one in Anaheim? EPISCOPAL CHURCH
Sunday, June 22, 5th Sunday in Trinity, the services in St. Michael's Episcopal church, corner Adele and Emily streets, will be: Bible school and adult classes, 9:45 A. M.; morning prayer and sermon by the rector, Rev. David Todd Gillmor; subject, "Saul's First Experience as a Christian." This is the fourth talk in the series of five on the man Saul. 1910. The constitutional amendment was to the effect that misdirection of a jury, the admission or rejection of evidence, or an error in pleadings or procedure should not be cause for reversal unless the error complained of would result in a miscarriage of justice. This provision is cited in the opinion, just received, that accompanied the order of the court of appeals giving a new trial to R. C. McDonald, a Santa Ana school principal, under sentence to 25 years in San Quentin. McDonald was convicted of a felony charge brought by a 14-year-old pupil, Helen Hambelton. The reversal was made because Judge West in admonishing one of the attorneys for the defense to refrain from disparaging remarks concerning the complaining witness, the judge saying that her behavior on the witness stand had been "courteous, kind and modest." The upper court held that this remark was prejudicial and might have had something to do with making up the minds of the jurors. The upper court decided that it cannot tell what the effect was, but because it might have had an effect in keeping the defendant from having a fair and impartial trial, failure to have a fair and impartial trial would be a miscarriage of justice.

Mr. and Mrs. E. M. Schlotter left Monday for Erie, Mich., to be gone about three months. The trip was planned as a surprise upon relatives at Erie, who recently wrote they wished they could be with Mr. and Mrs. Schlotter this year, but would have to wait another year.
RECEIVE BIDS FOR GOOD ROADS MATERIAL
Offers to Deliver Crushed Rock and Sand For Highway System
The Board of Supervisors on Tuesday received a bid from the Puente Rock Company for 3,000 tons of crushed rock, 60 cents a ton; 30,000 tons of gravel, 35 cents; 20,000 tons of sand, 10 cents, on cars at Butler. The bid was taken under advisement. The highway commission proposes to use this material, if bought, on parts of the county not easily accessible by freighting over the Southern Pacific from the county's rock crusher at McPherson.
Residents of Placentia petitioned for the formation of a lighting district for that place.
On a bid of $100 a franchise was sold to the Pacific Light & Power Company for electric power lines. Electricity is to be supplied in parts of this county.
Bids for a 30-horsepower engine for the county were taken under advisement.

Did You Hear This?
When the bees are in the clover,
And the cabbage in the patch,
When the flies are getting busy
And their eggs begin to hatch.
Then the house wife hies her hither
And her husband she bemeans,
'Till he hikes down to our office
And we hurry out the screens.
Keep the flies out and make the outdoors so attractive to them they'll not want to come in the house. You know the game.
