JEW Watch Our Window Display this Week OLINDAS GOBBLE LAST GAME OF SERIES COUPLE OF ERRORS LOSE HARD-FOUGHT BATTLE FOR LOCALS SUNDAY AFTERNOON NEW BATTERY SIGNED BY MANAGER HASSON WILL STRENGTH-EN HOME TEAM It is with much pain that the chronicler hereof records the sad story of last Sunday's baseball game and, for the second time this season, relates how Olinda won the deciding game of the series, and retains the championship pennant of Orange county. Thirsting for revenge for the massacre meted out to them two weeks previously when, on their own grounds they were defeated by the sand-lot score of 18 to 6, the rustic braves from the Oil Wells came down Sunday determined to win or perish. It was a swift and classy game up to the fatal seventh. Neither side had got within speaking distance of the home plate, and it looked like the nine chapters would be finished with nothing but goose eggs on the score board. But things began to happen in the seventh. Salvoison, the first man to bat, got a solar plexus jolt from a pitched ball. The next man was thrown out at first, but Beckley was handed a base on four balls by Thompson. This and Garden Grove, and are expected to add needed strength to the team. Pickens, in his one-inning try-out, demonstrated that he possesses an unhitable curve. In twelve pitched balls he struck out two and retired the third on a short pop fly. His one-time at the bat resulted in a hit into safe territory. It was a battle, principally between two high school boys. Thompson, an Orange novice, who is just breaking into baseball, was on the mound for Anaheim, and Salvoison, of the Fullerton high, for Olinda. Neither had the best of it up to the seventh when Gerken threw the ball away and permitted the visitors to make two runs. This demoralized Thompson and he went to pieces in the eighth, presenting Porter with a two-bagger and Callon a single, and keeping the fielders busy heading off grounders. He struck out ten men and permitted five hits in eight innings, while Salvaison fanned twelve and allowed but four bingles in nine innings. Bob Isbell was hit in the region of the heart by a pitched ball in the sixth which stretched him in the dust for a few moments but after a short rest he recuperated sufficiently to take his place on first again. This was the last of a three-game series with Olinda, and the aggregation from the oil region won two. It is probable another series will be arranged and with a new battery Manager Hasson expects to put the Anaheim team on its old-time invincible footing. ADVERTISED LETTERS Mrs. Antonia Marez, Mrs. Arthur Marshal, Mrs. Locke, Mrs. W. A. Boucher, Mrs. Marier Aronbula, Miss Jessie Holdridge, Miss Mary Morrison It was a swift and classy game up to the fatal seventh. This and a fly to Evans in left field advanced Salvoison to third. Beckley then attempted to steal and Gerken, forgetting that there was a man on third threw to second to cut him off. It was a wild throw and before the short stop could gather it in and pass it to Ortega, Beckley was roosting on second and Salvoison had trotted home. An outfield hit gave Beckley an opportunity to score, but the next batter grounded to Meats for the third out. The eighth inning was also prolific for the visitors. Thompson had a spell of heart failure after the disastrous seventh and allowed Porter, the first man to face him, to bag a two-base hit. Callon followed with another hit, and Porter scored on a passed ball by Gerken. Callon stole third and scored on a bunt by Isbell. Bob afterward took a desperate chance and sprinted for third on a hot grounder into third base territory, but Staats grabbed the ball and ran him down before he could get back to second. Four to nothing was the score, and thusly it remained to the end of the game. Thompson and Gerken were benched in the ninth and Pickens and Niles, a new battery recently signed by Manager Hasson, were substituted. These boys have been playing this season with Colegrove in the class "D" league, but have lately moved to ranches near This was the last of a three-game series with Ollinda, and the aggregation from the oil region won two. It is probable another series will be arranged and with a new battery Manager Hasson expects to put the Anaheim team on its old-time invincible footing.
