Attorney F. C. Spencer is plaintiff in a suit against J. A. Schultz in which he claims a 50 horse-power gas engine and certain tools and appliances valued at $1,000, which had been assigned to him by W. K. Fogg.

Attorney Spencer and family drove in their auto to Horseshoe Bend on Sunday, and spent the day in an outing at that picturesque point.
J. S. Howard and family drove to Long Beach Sunday and on their return trip were accompanied by Miss Edna Reed, who is spending the week with Miss Adela Howard.
Mrs. Richmond Turner is spending the week with her sister, Miss Lucile Turner, and brother, R. Izer Turner and family. Her husband is an officer in the naval service and is stationed at the present time at San Pedro on the Stewart.
Mr. and Mrs. U. S. Lemon and Miss Hazel Lemon went to San Bernardino yesterday morning to attend the funeral of Mr. Lemon's father, J. N. Lemon, who died in that city on Monday.

A. Nagel, his son Kenneth, and Dale Quarton, made up a party which viewed the Southern California high school interscholastic track meet in Los Angeles Saturday and saw Beebe win the mile and half mile, and Elliott take third in the discus throw.
P. J. Weisel & Company this week received a carload of six Studebaker touring cars which were placed on display at the company's garage on South Los Angeles street, until their owners should call for them, all of the shipment being sold before arrival.
Mr. and Mrs. F. H. Houck and little daughter, Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Witman and son, and Mr. and Mrs. F. R. Hudson, enjoyed a motoring trip to Capistrano, San Juan, and other points in the southern end of the county Sunday, making the trip in Mr. Witman's new Studebaker touring car.
It is announced that Odd Fellow and Rebekah lodges of the county will hold a picnic at the county park in Santiago Canyon on Saturday, April 26, to celebrate the 94th anniversary of Oddfellowship. A basket dinner, speaking, and music will be features of the occasion, which is expected to be one of the most enjoyable ever held by the two orders.
J. L. Buterbaugh left Tuesday morning for his old home at Gothenburg, Neb., after spending the winter here with his son-in-law, J. D. Wallace. Mr. Buterbaugh is very much impressed with this section and upon arriving at his home, will probably dispose of his property interests there and come here with his family to locate permanently.
Billy Franz on Monday received a goat from South Pasadena which he purchased while in that city on Sunday. The goat cost him $50, and has a record of six quarts of milk a day. It is regarded as one of the best in Southern California. Billy now has seven goats in his herd at his place on East Center street and is receiving a large quantity of rich milk daily from them.

G. M. Baker and his son, J. E. Baker, of Oakes, North Dakota, are here to spend the winter. The latter gentleman had purchased property and has become a permanent resident of this section. His father has not yet decided to locate, and will probably return to North Dakota in the near future. However, it is considered probable he will return to this section before snow flies again, and cast his lot with friends and relatives here.
Paul E. Brown, state field secretary of the Christian Endeavor societies, will conduct a meeting for young people in the Presbyterian church at 4 15 o'clock this afternoon. A good meeting is promised and the attendance of all young people under 15 is urged. On next Tuesday evening at 7:30 a meeting for all will be held in the same church. Mr. Brown has a wide reputation as a speaker and Christian, and all who find it possible are urged to attend his meetings while there is a chance.
The dramatic and musical entertainment given by the Anaheim Concordia at their club rooms Thursday evening was one of the most enjoyable and best attended affairs given for some time by that popular organization. A German play "Robert and Bertram," the "Jolly Tramps," was the leading feature of the evening and its excellent presentation elicited much applause from the assembled crowd. The musical program also was of much merit and was accorded well deserved praise. The Concordia is fast getting the reputation of being the livest bunch of boosters in town and its affairs are always assured of a good attendance.
A. E. Straehle, for many years a highly respected resident of this city, died at his residence on Emily street at 9 o'clock on Tuesday evening of heart disease. He had long been a sufferer but retired to his bed only last week. While everything was done to prolong his life, he passed away as stated. He leaves a wife and grown son and daughter. Mr. and Mrs. von Behren have spent the winter visiting points in the north, but they found the weather just as cold there as in Minnesota, and determined to come to this section of the State. They are much impressed with the country about Anaheim and may locate here permanently.
Tom Sing, an aged Chinaman, was on Monday sentenced to 90 days in the county jail by Judge Howard, for threatening to cut Ah Fou's head open with a hatchet. The latter accused Sing of stealing chickens, when the former procured a hatchet, chasing the other Celestial, made several ugly swipes at him with the weapon. Ah Fou broke the sprinting record and escaped unhurt, although the hatchet was swung dangerously near his top piece. Sing was arrested at the Chinese vegetable garden on North street. Ah Fou, being partially demented, was not an extra good witness against Sing, and the Judge sent the latter over for 90 days on a charge of disturbing the peace.

He had long been a sufferer but retired to his bed only last week. While everything was done to prolong his life, he passed away as stated. He leaves a wife and grown son and daughter. Funeral services will be held from the residence tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock. Rev. Schmelzer officiating. Services at the grave will be in charge of Company 26, Uniform Rank, Knights of Pythias.
One of the most delightful social affairs of the week was a seven-course dinner given by Miss Alice Grimshaw at her home on West Broadway Monday evening in honor of W. G. Mason and Miss C. Rayburn, whose engagement was recently announced. Covers were laid for 14. The color scheme of the table decorations was yellow and green and was carried out with jonquils and ferns, large bouquets occupying prominent places on the table and the flowers and greenery being festooned over the table in a pleasing manner from the candlesra. The place cards were beautifully hand-painted and were decorated with jonquils. The entire affair was much enjoyed by those present and is one of the first of many to be given in honor of this popular couple.
