GAS TANK EXPLODES
Frightens People—Lands in Kitchen of Japanese Boarding House
A young panic was started in this city Tuesday at noon when an iron tank, two feet in diameter and six feet long, which was being used for experimental work in welding and brazing in the blacksmith shop of Clemens & Rife on North Los Angeles street, exploded, blew up through the roof several hundred feet into the air and came down in the kitchen of the Japanese boarding house, going through the galvanized roof and striking within two feet of the Japanese woman at work in the room. The accident occurred just before 12 o'clock. The machine was being tried out and experiments were being made with it, when the apparatus back-fired into the acetelene tank and it blew up as stated. The lower end of the tank was left on the floor of the building and the top went up through the roof, and landing, fell through the roof of the Japanese boarding house kitchen. The woman working there was badly frightened and rushed from the building. No one was injured by the accident, although Earl Rife, son of Stewart Rife, of the blacksmith shop, was sitting within two feet of the exploded machine.
EASTER SERVICES AT THE CITY'S CHURCHES
(Continued from page 1)
were "Arise ye People," "The Lord of Life is Risen," a male chorus sang "Lift Your Glad Voices," and the sofa and chorus was "Bow Down Thine Ear." Large congregations were in attendance at both services, and in the morning a reception of new members was held, 17 people uniting with the church on confession of faith and 17 by letter.
St. Boniface church was the scene of one of the most impressive services held in the city for some time. Rev. Dubbel preached a very appropriate sermon and high mass was held. Concone's Mass being sung by the choir, Miss Evelyn Finney taking the leading solo part. The 16 members of the choir never sang better and were aided by John Kirsch on the violin, Miss Marie Rimpau acting as organist. For the offertory the choir sang "Regina Celi." Decorations were profuse and elaborate, and the church was crowded with worshipers who came to celebrate the rising of the Christ.
Rev. A. Rohde, of the German Baptist church, preached a sermon entitled "Easter Greetings," and the services were attended by a large audience. The choir of the church rendered several beautiful anthems and their singing was the cause of much comment on the part of the audience.

DEATH OF CONRAD WAGNER
Orange County Pioneer Passes Away After Long Illness
The funeral of Conrad Wagner, of Placentia, one of the pioneers of Southern California, who died Saturday last, was held on Monday from his home in Fullerton, and was largely attended.
The passing of Wagner marks the end of one of the many picturesque careers of early California life. He came to Fullerton when it was a part of Los Angeles county and engaged in the business of raising sheep, accumulating a fortune. He saw that locality develop from a grazing field to one of the richest fruit districts in the state.
He is survived by his widow, who has been a cripple for years, and several nieces and nephews, all prominent in the business, social and polical life of Orange county.
CARD OF THANKS
The undersigned desire to express their heartfelt thanks to friends and neighbors for their many acts of kindness and for assistance during the hour of their recent bereavement, consequent upon the illness and death of their beloved mother, Mrs. Blanche L. Hill, with especial thanks to members of the Rebekah lodge and also for magnificent floral offerings at the funeral.

IN AND ABOUT THE CITY
Officer Germann went to Fullerton on Monday morning to look for a kit of burglar's tools which a youth from that city told him had been left near one of the packing houses. He found the place where the kit had been placed, but was unable to discover them, they having been taken away during the night. Fresh foot prints about the place indicated that some one had come after them before the officer's arrival.

Schneider Brothers, proprietors of the City Meat Market, have made several additions to their equipment this week which will add to the appearance as well as to the convenience and sanitary arrangement of the shop. Three 7-foot glass show cases have been installed and all meats on display are kept therein, keeping them fresh, cold and free from the germ-laden fly. These are the first cases of their kind to be put in by local butchers, and their installation reflects great credit upon the proprietors of this market for their energy and up-to-dateness in looking after the interests of their patrons.
A large number of the students, faculty and friends of the Anaheim high school are planning to attend the debate to be held in the Los Angeles high school building Friday evening of this week between the local school and Los Angeles high.
