THE SUPERVISORIAL DISTRICT SITUATION
While no additional supervisor district will be formed in northern Orange county, as had been hoped for during a recent discussion of the subject, there can be no doubt that a better feeling between the northern and southern districts of the county will ensue as a result of the agitation for such new district in this neighborhood for several weeks past. Finding that we are not of sufficient strength as to population to warrant creation of an additional supervisor district here, residents of the third district are content to let the matter drop for the present. They do not favor any plan by which precincts shall be taken from the second district and attached to the proposed new district. They feel that while the population of this district is nearly sufficient for another supervisor, they prefer to await such time as their voting strength shall be ample to warrant such proceeding. Certainly they do not favor inclusion of precincts so far south as Westminster and Bolsa, and they are also opposed to including any of the coast precincts in the proposed new district. It is true that residents of Yorba and Garden Grove, the first being in the fourth district and the latter in the second, have expressed a desire to be annexed to the proposed new district, and it is announced that voters in other neighboring precincts to the west of us have expressed similar sentiments. But citizens of the third district are
DEMAND MONEY FOR COAST HIGHWAY
Board of Supervisors at Meeting on Tuesday Hear Argument From Beach Delegation
The board of supervisors held a meeting on Tuesday and heard a lengthy discussion from advocates of the coast highway in favor of making an appropriation from the current expense fund for its construction. Supervisor Schumacher opposed the appropriation and said he should refuse to vote for such measure if it were brought before the board. In order to take money from the current expense fund for building the coast highway it is necessary that a unanimous vote be had upon the proposition. Supervisors Talbert, Leck, Struck and Smith favor making an appropriation of $20,000 therefor. It is claimed that this appropriation will be merely the entering wedge for larger appropriations to follow, and that the road will cost before completed not less than $200,000.
It was stated at the meeting that former Supervisor Linebarger of this district had last year agreed to vote in favor of such appropriation. Some of the members of the board called upon Supervisor Schumacher to follow Linebarger's example, but he refused so to do. He made the claim that the third supervisor district had not been given its just proportion of public money, and that the second and fifth districts had been given much larger appropriations than their assessed valuation entitles them to.
Mr. Schumacher has the backing of the entire third district in his stand. So long as bridges and roads in this district are unprovided for, he will refuse to vote for an appropriation of money for construction of the coast highway. The board took up the petition of residents of this section for the formation of a protection district, and

or, they prefer to await such time as their voting strength shall be ample to warrant such proceeding. But citizens of the third district are not in favor of taking in these precincts arbitrarily. When the time shall arrive, as we think it will arrive in the not distant future, that we of the northern end of the county shall find ourselves entitled to another supervisor, we intend to go before the board of supervisors, lay the matter squarely and honestly before them, and ask them, as just and honorable men, to accede to our wishes. We shall take no big stick with us, and shall not engage in any effort to make enemies where friends are more to be desired. While we shall have no additional supervisor here for the present, we believe a much better feeling exists all around. We hope this may continue, and we hope all sections may be able to get together for the good of the entire county.
Certainly Anaheim would most earnestly object to its annexation either to the second district, or its partition between that district and the fourth. Such action on the part of the supervisors, reports concerning which were prevalent here on Friday and Saturday as a result of the committee's visit to Orange and Santa Ana, would inevitably lead to a call for a referendum vote. We believe we could defeat such action on the part of the board of supervisors, but we want no such referendum vote at all. We shall make no incursion into Mr. Talbert's territory, and respectfully suggest that no similar incursion be made into our territory. We feel that all sections should get together in friendly spirit to the end that the best interests of the county may be subserved. We want no hairpulling and nothing which may smack of a contest between these supervisor districts. We want to get together for the best interests of the entire county.
So far as building the coast boulevard is concerned, our position is this: When Mr. Talbert and his associates on the board will build the Olive bridge, following organization of our protection district; will care for the Yorba bridge, and will make adequate appropriations for better roads in the third district, we will meet him halfway in the matter of appropriating money for the coast boulevard. This is the policy adhered to by representative men of this section. This is the line upon which we shall continue this discussion, if it takes all summer. It is a question of give and take. Let Mr. Talbert construct the Olive bridge as we have his personal word he will do, and let him cast his eye over the other needs of the third supervisor district, and we shall engage to meet him halfway, and more than half-way, in re-
The German entertainment given by students of the high school Friday evening under the direction of Miss Otillia Steckert, was greeted by a large audience and applause for the excellently rendered production was hearty and prolonged. The school orchestra, under the direction of Mrs. Bartlett, rendered several German selections during the evening, and the fine work of this organization received the commendation of all present.
The two German comedies, Eigeninn (Stubbornness), and Einer Muss Heiraten, (One Must Marry), were rendered in fine shape, and the students taking part were the recipients of congratulations for their excellent work. Between the two parts, vocal solos were given by Miss Emily Spaeth, and Miss Helena Goodale, the former singing "Es Hat Nicht Sollen Sein," and the latter "Gute Nacht, Mein Lieb."
The cast of characters for Eigeninn was as follows:

Clark Chamberlain
Katherina, his wife...Adlena Spingath
Emma, their daughter...Frieda Maas

NORTH DAKOTA MAN MYSTERIOUSLY MISSING

John Munch, of Oakes, N. D., who has been in Southern California for six weeks visiting former residents of that state, has mysteriously disappeared, and officers have been notified to be on the lookout for him. He is aged 68 years, and is said to be a trifle absent minded. It is believed he has wandered off, although many of his friends here fear foul-play has overtaken him. Munch was last seen seated in an automobile at the Santa Fe dentist with a strange man on Thursday.

Mr. Schumacher has the backing of the entire third district in his stand. So far as the excess appropriation of money for the second and fifth districts is concerned, we believe every dollar of it has been honestly expended. There is no disposition anywhere in the third district to question the legality of the appropriation, nor to intimate that it was not honestly nor economically expended.
We believe the time has arrived to send all petty bickerings to the rear, and for all sections to unite in advancing the best interests of the entire county. We believe the coast boulevard will be a valuable asset to Orange county, and when we get appropriations for our bridges and roads in the third district, shall advocate an appropriation of public funds for such highway.

Francisco Payora, the Mexican run over by the midnight train some days ago, died last week at the local sanitarium where he was taken for treatment. He was badly injured and although everything was done to save his life, he did not live more than a week after being injured.
Albert Sieland was in town from Oxnard this week visiting friends. Mr. Sieland occupies a responsible position in the sugar factory at that point, and looks for a record harvest the coming season. More than 20,000 acres have been planted to beets for the mill and the stand is an excellent one throughout the district.

He is aged 68 years, and is said to be a trifle absent minded. It is believed he has wandered off, although many of his friends here fear foul-play has overtaken him. Munch was last seen seated in an automobile at the Santa Fe depot with a strange man on Thursday afternoon between 5 and 6 o'clock. J. C. Craft, of East Anaheim, who knows Munch very well, was passing the station in his car at the time. He saw Much with a strange man seated in a large automobile, the time being just prior to the arrival of the San Diego train. Whether Munch boarded the train or was taken away in the auto is not known.
Munch was to have started for North Dakota last Saturday in company of Mr. Dennison, of Orange. He secured berth reservation at the depot here on Thursday. His trunk and suitcase are now at the depot. A letter has been received from Mr. Dennison, who writes from Needles, that Mr. Munch is not on the train with him.
Members of the Dakota colony here have engaged in an active search for Munch. Sheriff Ruddock has been notified of his disappearance and the Los Angeles police force has been notified to be on the watch for him.

W. J. Elliott received a telephone message from Sheriff Ruddock yesterday morning, announcing that Munch had been found. The old gentleman had joined a hunting party in the southern part of the county.
