FRESNO MEETING OF CHRISTIAN ENDEAVOR
ANAHEIM WELL REPRESENTED—IN CENTER OF MOST EFFICIENT DISTRICT
MORE THAN THOUSAND ENDEAVORERS HOLD PROFITABLE MEETING IN FRESNO
From far and near on June 29 a host of California Christian Endeavorers flocked to Fresno to attend the five-days' convention of the State Union. It took four special trains beside the regular ones to carry them to Fresno. They came from Humboldt county on the north to Imperial on the south. Two thousand one hundred and one delegates were registered. Fresno received them with open arms and invited them to partake of her hospitality without stint.
This convention was the 25th and the greatest ever held by the California union. The topic was "Efficient Christian Service." Everything from the sunrise prayer meeting to the closing address late at night lead to this one great idea.
The morning Bible classes, under the able leadership of Dr. R. A. Torry, Dr. W. C. Sherman, Dr. J. R. Pratt and Tom Hannay, gave a new vision of the Scriptures to a host of young people.
The morning hours were filled with Bible study, conferences, and special greater service. It was an inspiring sight to witness these hundreds of the flower of California's young people lay their lives upon the altar of Christian service.
The Juniors and Intermediates were given special attention. They will guide the church of the future. One morning several hundred Juniors under the age of 14, conducted a fine meeting in the main auditorium. They made an appeal for more Junior superintendents. Several hundred are needed. On another morning the Intermediates held a fine meeting. Secretary Shaw in commenting on this said that in other conventions he had seen meetings for Intermediates, but never one by Intermediates.
This convention will undoubtedly be a great stimulus to the work in California. Hundreds received a greater vision of the surrendered life and they went to work before they left Fresno. The last address is finished, but the convention's real work is just beginning.
Arthur J. Gatter of Los Angeles was elected president for the coming year. Honors were heaped upon Orange county. The State Junior Banner was awarded to the El Modena Friends Junior Society, the State Intermediate to a Santa Ana society. Orange county leads the state in Tenth Legion, Quiet Hour and Efficiency campaign work. The Efficiency campaign is designed to increase the scope of Christian Endeavor service along 28 lines. The Third District of Orange county, which includes Anaheim, enjoys the distinction of being the most efficient district of the most efficient county of the most efficient state.
On Wednesday morning 12 persons were called to the rostrum of the convention hall and General Secretary Shaw of Boston, presented them with Christian Endeavor experts' pins. Only
The morning Bible classes, under the able leadership of Dr. R. A. Torry, Dr. W. C. Sherman, Dr. J. R. Pratt and Tom Hannay, gave a new vision of the Scriptures to a host of young people.
The morning hours were filled with Bible study, conferences, and special sessions. The workers found a feast of good things there. One of these meetings was addressed by Na Poon Chew, editor of a Chinese daily in San Francisco. "The True Meaning of the Chinese Revolution" was a revelation to all. There are great days ahead for China.
The afternoon of Tuesday, July 2, was given over to the pursuit of pleasure. It was the only time that a breathing spell was allowed in the whole five days. Three hundred of the veterans (those who have been Endeavorers for ten years or over) went on a special to Selma, where they enjoyed a picnic, dinner and ball game. The Fresno Intermediate Societies entertained all of high school age in Zapp's park with boating, swimming, roller coasting, and eating. Those who were either too old or too young to participate in these revelries enjoyed an automobile trip through Fresno's great ralsin district.
The afternoons were given over to mission study, business meetings, various special meetings and a silver jubilee service. At the latter seven former state presidents participated.
A great feature of the convention was the nine simultaneous evangelistic street meetings conducted by the young people. Many hearts were touched and lives changed by their earnest work. When the hour for these meetings was over the participants fell into a column of fours and These columns were three blocks long and were composed of more than a thousand singing persons.
The singing at the convention was wonderful. They sang every where,—on the train in the depots, during the applause, while lined up for meals in the cafeterias and on the streets. Doubtless the whole police force could not keep them from breaking into spontaneous song. A large, well drilled choir sang every evening. The favorite soloist was a full blooded Indian tenor from Chico named Elmer La Fonso. The convention song was, "Where He Leads Me I Will Follow." This embodied the master aim of the convention and was sung twenty

On Wednesday morning 12 persons were called to the rostrum of the convention hall and General Secretary Shaw of Boston presented them with Christian Endeavor experts' pins. Only those who have passed a rigid examination along 30 lines of Christian Endeavor work are entitled to wear these pins and claim the degree of Christian Endeavor Expert. Of the 12 persons so honored six were from Orange county and one was from Anaheim. There are only about 25 experts among the 30,000 California Endeavorers. Orange county was further honored by having three of the 28 state officers chosen from its ranks, as follows: Herbert P.Rankin of Santa Ana, state treasurer; Mabel Culter of El Modena, Junior superintendent; and Lulu Minter of Santa Ana, corresponding secretary.
If you want to know more about this convention come to the Presbyterian church at 7:30 next Sunday evening and hear Miss Eleanora Parker, Miss Alice Grimshaw, Mrs.L.E.Miller,Edwin Miller and Howard E.Gates present their reports.

General Secretary Wm. Shaw of the United Society of Christian Endeavor (the World's Union) was present and did valiant service. Mr. Shaw is next to the highest man in Christian Endeavor service. Mr. Shaw installed the newly elected officers, conducted conferences, and made addresses. Honor is due Mr. Shaw for forgetting his personal sorrows for our benefit, as only three weeks ago his devoted wife passed over the river to claim her reward.
During the evenings the hall was packed with audiences, averaging 4000 persons. It was surely a great sight to see more people than are in all of Anaheim, gathered together in one convention of Christian Young People. These audiences were addressed by such famed men as Wm. Shaw of Boston, Dr. R. A. Torrey of Los Angeles, Wm. Rader of San Francisco, Dr. Edwin Forrest Hallenbeck of Los Angeles, and Dr. E. S. Chapman of the Anti-Saloon League. It is with regret that lack of space forces us to refrain from quoting from the inspiring messages of these men. The results speak more eloquently for them than the printed word. In response to their call, 400 young people pledged themselves to devote their lives either to the ministry, foreign or home missions, and countless others to a life of
BEEKEEPERS MEET
The Beekeepers' Club of Orange County held its quarterly meeting in Judge West's room in the court house Saturday afternoon, with an attendance of about a dozen members and five members of the State Beekeepers' organization, who came down from Los Angeles for the meeting.
A. B. Shaffner, secretary of the State Beekeeper' organization, gave a talk on "The Importance of Organization and Combination in a Business Way."
Prof. Ralph Benton, of the Los Angeles Normal and formerly connected with the bee division of the agricultural department of the University of California, spoke on "The Diseases of Bees."
George Emerson, of the State Beekeepers' organization, addressed the meeting on "The Importance of Monthly Reports of Beekeepers to the Club."
The next meeting will be held the first Saturday in October.
Here is a handy arrangement to clip and paste on your phone or in your hat: "Send up a case of Anaheim."

Shows How to Cure Them
Many people never suspect their kidneys. If suffering from a lame, weak or aching back they think that it is only a muscular weakness; when urinary trouble sets in they think it will soon correct itself. And so it is with all the other symptoms of kidney disorders. That is just where the danger lies. You must cure these troubles or they may lead to dropsy or Bright's disease. The best remedy to use is Doan's Kidney Pills. It is for illies which are caused by weak or diseased kidneys. Anaheim people testify to permanent cures.
Mrs. Fred Dyckman, 112 N. Lemon street, Anaheim, Cal., says: "For a long time I was subject to attacks of backache. Any work which required stooping, caused my back to pain me intensely and I was also afflicted with headaches and dizzy spells. I knew that my kidneys were disordered, as the kidney secretions were unnatural.
A relative, who had used Doan's Kidney Pills with good results, advised me to try them and I procured a supply at Mullinix' Drug Store. I found prompt relief and after I had taken the contents of three boxes, I felt better in every way. I cannot speak too highly of Doan's Kidney Pills."
For sale by all dealers. Price 50 cents. Foster-Milburn Co., Buffalo, New York, sole agents for the United States.
Remember the name—Doan's—and take no other.
