William Howard Taft should be renominated and reelected to the presidency because of his advocacy of a permanent scientific tariff commission, so that disturbance of business by hasty and ill-advised tariff changes, made mainly for political effect, may be avoided. Membership lists are out and being freely signed by representative republicans. It is believed that when the meeting is called to order the lists will contain upward of 250 names. Capt. John D. Fredericks of Los Angeles, who convicted the McNamara's and placed them in the penitentiary, will be the principal speaker. He is a lifelong republican, and is out for renomination of the president. C. C. Chapman of Fullerton and Richard Melrose of this city will also speak. Both of these gentlemen have been mentioned as candidates for congress in the new Eleventh district, but while each would ably fill the office, they have, it is understood, declined the honor. They will expound some good old-fashioned republican doctrine. These speakers should be heard by all republicans. Ladies are especially invited to be present. Delegations of republicans will be present from Santa Ana, Fullerton, Olinda, Buena Park and other towns All factions of the party, soft or hardshells, are urged to come out and hear the speakers. The Fullerton brass band and Ed Crowther's cadet band will be in attendance. LEASE GIVEN TO STANDARD Part of Frank Emery Ranch Will be Site for Drilling for Oil An important movement in the oil situation is the announcement that the Standard oil company has just secured the north half of the Frank Emery ranch at Buena Park. Active to complete his clear-cut program of economy in government expenditures. William Howard Taft should be renominated and reelected to the presidency because of his advocacy of a permanent scientific tariff commission, so that disturbance of business by hasty and ill-advised tariff changes, made mainly for political effect, may be avoided. William Howard Taft should be renominated and reelected to the presidency because of his sterling honesty in public as well as in private life. William Howard Taft should be renominated and reelected to the presidency because of the firm opposition he has shown to state or national legislation involving the recall of the judiciary. William Howard Taft should be renominated and reelected to the presidency because of his manly stard for civil service extension. William Howard Taft should be renominated and reelected to the presidency because of his liberal policy for development of the vast and undeveloped resources of Alaska. William Howard Taft should be renominated and reelected to the presidency because the best citizen ship of America is calling for him from Maine to Florida and from New York to California. William Howard Taft should be renominated and reelected to the presidency so that he may complete his God-given work of securing treaties of arbitration with Great Britain, France, Germany, and other principal countries, by which the world's peace will be assured. William Howard Taft should be renominated and reelected to the presidency because he has a well-trained mind of his own; a strong will of his own; a courage of his own; a policy of his own, and because he can not be made the tool of any set of self-seeking politicians. William Howard Taft should be renominated and reelected to the presidency because he is full of patriotism, full of fire, full of thought for his people, and because he is an American of Americans. The Rev. Bishop Joseph H. Johnson will visit St. Michaels' Episcopal church on Palm Sunday, Mar. 31, and will preach in the evening at 7:30. LEASE GIVEN TO STANDARD Part of Frank Emery Ranch Will be Site for Drilling for Oil An important movement in the oil situation is the announcement that the Standard oil company has just secured the north half of the Frank Emery ranch at Buena Park. Active work will be begun at once on this lease, and two rigs are now being put up. This lease has been sought often by nearly all of the oil companies doing business in that field. Up until this time they have all been unsuccessful. The Standard has undoubtedly given a good deal to the owner to secure this property, as this place is considered by all oil experts to be sure to produce oil, and of a high gravity. The property is on the Emery ranch, which consists of nearly a thousand acres. This new lease is in the upper half and is just south of the Murphy oil company. It is located about two and one-half miles east of Northam station. In securing the lease the Standard has expanded the present oil field, which it was believed would not be enlarged until the present leases had been thoroughly worked. The action of the Standard means that they are not going to delay developments, but will work every available lease which has a good prospect of oil. BUENA PARK The whist club was delightfully entertained at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Warren on Wednesday evening. At the luncheon following the game it was decided to take supper with the Clarence Chamberlains of Anaheim on the evening of April 1st and attend the circus in a body. The Eastern Star party on the 19th was a success in every sense of the word. A splendid crowd, fine music and a dandy caller and floor manager in the person of Charley McComber, who makes everybody have a good time wherever he is. Mr. and Mrs. Laverock are visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Geo. H. Warren. They were old friends and neighbors away back in Michigan. I wonder if the voters, male and female, of Orange county realize the fact that the time for registration is growing shorter every day, and they may have cause to regret having triotism, full of fire, full of thought for his people, and because he is an American of Americans. The Rt. Rev. Bishop Joseph H. Johnson will visit St. Michaels' Episcopal church on Palm Sunday, Mar. 31, and will preach in the evening at 7:30. EASTER CARDS AND EASTER SOUVENIRS Are as necessary as an Easter bonnet. Our display of beautiful Easter Novelties cannot be duplicated, and all at prices to suit. JOS. HELMSEN manager in the person of Charley McComber, who makes everybody have a good time wherever he is. Mr. and Mrs. Laverock are visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Geo. H. Warren. They were old friends and neighbors away back in Michigan. I wonder if the voters, male and female, of Orange county realize the fact that the time for registration is growing shorter every day, and they may have cause to regret having been dilatory in performing this duty. More on this subject later. Another feather in the cap of Buena Park. Chas. L. Newcombe, one of its brightest and most enterprising young men, has recently been appointed local agent for Orange county in sales of the Cutting car. AGED COUPLE MEET DEATH Samson Edwards and Wife Killed at Santa Ana Sampson Edwards, a pioneer of this county, was fatally hurt and his wife was instantly killed at 3:40 o'clock at Santa Ana on Tuesday afternoon, when Edwards in attempting to turn off Fourth street onto Firch street ran his automobile almost head on into a Pacific Electric car. The automobile was reduced to debris and Mrs. Edwards beneath the wreck and Edwards still in his seat, were dragged with the machine forty feet, before Motorman J. F. Robertson of Los Angeles brought h's car to a stop. Mrs. Edwards, with her skull crushed, was scarcely breathing when she was extricated. Edwards was taken to the Santa Ana hospital, where it was found that he was hurt in an ally, one leg was broken, his head cut and his back slightly dislocated. He died at 7 o'clock. The electric car was going west on Fourth street. Those who saw the accident say that Edwards either did not see the car coming toward him or he tried to cross in front of it.. No blame was placed on the motorman. Mr. Edwards, who was 82 years of age, and his wife, aged 79, celebrated their sixtieth wedding anniversary on November 1 last. They leave four children, John H. and W. J. Edwards of Westminster, Mary I. Rogers of Santa Ana, and Nelson T. Edwards, postmaster at Orange.
