Edmund R. Gregory, traveling-passenger agent of the Santa Fe company, was in town on Tuesday in the interest of that company. Mr. Gregory takes the place of Harold H. Moore, who recently left the railroad service to enter the restaurant business in Los Angeles.

The regular monthly meeting of the Ladies' Aid Society of the Presbyterian church will be held this afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Sunday schoolroom of the church. All are invited.
George O. Yocum and Alfred Kings baker of Los Angeles, representing wholesale cigar houses, were in town on Monday interviewing dealers and looking up orders.
J. M. Pickering who for several years past has been agent for the Southern Pacific at this point left last week for Los Angeles, where he accepts promotion in the company's service, and has been succeeded by R. L. Rumsey, who has been here for some time past as telegraph operator at the depot. Mr. Rumsey is an efficient and capable employee, and is doing work in his advanced position.
A meeting of stockholders in the Union brewery was held on Tuesday when the following directors were elected: A. Hessel, Tony Hessel, Joe Hessel, Joseph Dauser and Louis Zimmerman. A. Hessel was elected president, Tony Hessel vice-president and manager, and Joe Hessel secretary and treasurer. The brewery is enjoying prosperous business in all lines, its output of beer being superior to any brewed in Southern California, and its market extends far and wide.

H. S. Hadsell was a business visitor in town yesterday from Los Angeles.
A. Hessel was in town from Los Angeles on Tuesday attending a meeting of directors of the Union brewery, of which he is president.
In the superior court on Friday, Attorney Ferguson was appointed to defend P. R. Stock, charged with swindling the First National bank of this city. The case was set for trial for April 1st.
Mrs. C. F. Beesley of Los Angeles has taken the Asher residence on East Broadway and is preparing to open a first-class boarding house therein at once. A limited number of roomers will also be accommodated.
C. G. Thayer and family this week moved to the fifteen-acre Thayer ranch four miles west of this city.
Mr. Thayer will go into the business of raising sweet potatoes and nursery stock and says he will have some of the finest potatoes ever put on the local market.
C. H. Thayer is in receipt of advice from relatives in Iowa, saying the thermometer has not risen above zero since New Year's, and some days ago, in the northeastern part of the state, descended to 35 below.
Mr. Thayer visited Iowa in 1910, and informed friends there he would not live in that state if they gave him a farm free. He will endeavor to persuade an uncle to come here and locate. He informs him he can make more money here than in Iowa, and besides will take no chance of freezing to death.
Richard Heimann, a pioneer merchant of this city, was in town on Tuesday, coming down from Los Angeles to attend the celebration of the fortyth anniversary of establishing the Odd Fellows' lodge here. Mr. Heimann is a charter member of the lodge, having joined it in 1872. He had not been in Anaheim for many years, and found many evidences of advancement and improvement hereabout. He left Anaheim in 1879, after conducting a large general merchandise store here for many years. He has resided in Los Angeles since that time, and has prospered. He was one of Anaheim's leading citizens in the early days, and is still well remembered by many old-time friends.
Stroup-Barnes Furniture Co. will open for business in Jos. Backs building on North Los Angeles street the first week in February with a large stock of furniture, carpets, linoleums, rugs, etc. Mr. Backs is making a number of improvements on the building, among them a large warehouse for the storing of rugs, carpets and linoleums. New show-windows are also being installed, and the premises fitted up to receive one of the largest and most carefully selected stocks ever imported into Orange county. Messrs. Stroup and Barnes were in town this week making preliminary arrangements for the opening of their establishment, which will be one of the largest mercantile houses in northern Orange county.

Mrs. E. M. Keller of Los Angeles, member of the board of supreme trustees of the order of Fraternal Brotherhood, and editor of the Fraternal Brotherhood News, was a Sunday guest of Mr. and Mrs. Jos. Helmsen.
Miss Susmill's residence was entered one night last week by a sneak thief during her temporary absence and a gold watch, a gift from her mother, and a revolver belonging to Fletcher Susmill stolen. The theft was not discovered until the following morning, when Miss Susmill went to procure the timepiece. Bits of matches strewn about the floor showed where the thief had been at work. There is no clew to his identity.
Through lack of space and inability to secure correct data the Gazette is forced to forego the pleasure of publishing an interesting news item concerning one of Anaheim's best known young business men. For information regarding this matter, however, the public is referred to either Louis Bushard, Photographer Hudson, J. W. Elliott or Frank Nemetz. The two former gentlemen were eye witnesses of the affair but refuse to "loosen up" for publication.
The Third District of the Orange County Christian Endeavor Union held a successful rally in the Fullerton Christian church last Sunday afternoon.
