Mrs. B. V. Beebe has been appointed registration clerk by County Clerk Williams. She will register women voters for this year's elections, and states ladies will be required to make affidavit only that they will be 21 years of age at the date of election. She will doubtless be a popular registration clerk.

I. B. Neff held a farmers' institut for walnut growers at the city hall in Santa Ana yesterday afternoon, and the meeting was largely attended by growers; fertilization, pruning and other matters connected with the successful culture of walnuts were discussed. Mr. Neff will hold a farmers' institute at Garden Grove the latter part of the month.

W. J. Montgomery and family returned last week from Tulare county, where they have been located for a year and a half. Mr. Montgomery has accepted the foremanship of the J. W. A. Off walnut ranch at San Juan Capistrano, comprising 125 acres, and this week left with his family for that place where he will reside.

Rev. J. A. Seaton of Santa Ana will preach at the Christian church next Sunday morning and evening.
Mrs. Ivan Barr of Loveland, Col., and daughter Mrs. Elizabeth Barr, were guests the past week of Mr. and Mrs. Halley on East Broadway. Mrs. Barr is a sister-in-law of Erwin Barr. Her husband passed away in November. She will probably remain on the coast during the winter, and may decide to locate here permanently.
Mrs. L. Goble is ill at her home on Broadway with stomach trouble.
Alleging negligence, A. W. Schonlee, a school trustee of Huntington Beach last week brought suit against Dr. G. A. Shank of Huntington Beach for $15,000 damages. Schonlee declares that the negligence of the physician was responsible for the death of Mr. Schonlee's wife on September 28. The complaint states that on September 16 hemorrhages set in and that Dr. Shank did not exert proper care and did not give proper relief. Judge West this week ordered Robert Everett to

Louis Dauser of River Falls, Wisconsin, accompanied by his daughter, Miss Lucy Dauser, is a guest of his brother, Joseph Dauser. He will probably remain during the winter.
The regular meeting of the Ebell Society will be held in the I. O. O. F. hall, Saturday, January 6, at 2:30 p.m.

The Board of Audit began yesterday examination of books and accounts in the office of the Anaheim Union Water Company. The board is composed of Alex Wright, Max Nebelung and George Ruddock. The report will be ready for submission to the annual stockholders' meeting January 27.
Howard Gates gave members of his Sunday School class a good time New Year's day at the Gates home on West Center street. They engaged in a game of football and other athletic contests, including wrestling and other feats of strength. Later in the afternoon they were invited into the house, where Mrs.Gates had a spread for them which they will never forget. The boys voted Howard a bully good old scout.
Emma M.Hill, of Anaheim, has filed suit in the Superior Court against Arthur Pefley for damages in the sum of $3,800, alleged to have been sustained by plaintiff because of "fraudulent and untrue" statements made by defendant to induce her to purchase an eight-acre orange grove. According to the complaint, the trees were represented to be all Valencias, but in reality thirty-eight of them were navels. Plaintiff, therefore, claims that she was damaged and sues to recover. Weisel & Dutton are attorneys for plaintiff.
The Parent Teachers' Association met at the new grammar school building at 8 o'clock Tuesday evening. After a short business session Prof.Walker made a talk on California missions, and the early history of California. His talk was "Illustrated by sterliopticon views." The attendance was very good. The next meeting will be a musical given by the grammar school children.
Many Dakotans have been escaping the holiday season among the flowers and orange groves of Southern California. Among the number are Mr. and Mrs.H.M.Booth, of Hecla.South Dakota, who spent last week visiting the families of Charles Eygabroad and C.M.Hollingshead, in Anaheim, and George Shank and wife, who were guests during the week of L.C.Yoeman 214 family.William and A.F.Milligan of Aberdeen,South Dakota were also visiting friends in this neighborhood last week.A.F.Milligan is wintering at Long Beach,and his brother came down to spend the holiday season with him.
A quarantine of two weeks was lifted* the county jail one day last week when twenty-six prisoners were released.A case of smallpox was discovered in the jail two weeks ago.The victim was a negro,who had been committed from Orange.The jail was crowded at the time, overcrowded in fact,as there were over seventy prisoners.The negro was removed to a pest-house and a quarantine was laid on the jail so that none might leave or enter.Prisoners whose term expired during the quarantine were obliged to remain in the jail until the quarantine was lifted.Since the jail could not be used and tramps and hobos would lose their wholesome respect for officers if the fact became known,它 was kept quiet until developments indicated whether or not an epidemic was to follow the first case.When no further trouble appeared and the health officers were convinced that none was likely to appear,the quarantine was raised.

Erwin Barr returned on Tuesday to Los Angeles, where he is a guest of relatives. He will return to his home in Elsinore at the end of the week.
V. U. Simpson, past chancellor commander of the Knights of Pythias, was presented with a handsome gold watch by the odge at its meeting Wednesday evening of last week. The case bears Mr. Simpson's initials and on the reverse side the coat of arms of the order. Inside is he inscription narrating the presentation by the lodge and the date of the gift. The presentation was made by Gen. Royer in a filicitous speech, and Mr. Simpson responded, returning thanks for the present.

Prior Conviction.
A new complaint was filed Tuesday morning against Clyde Taylor. It alleges a prior conviction of felony. The first complaint did not refer to the fact that Taylor was convicted for stealing Judge Towner's automobile Taylor's present trouble is based on a worthless $25 check given H. H. Kelley of the Cadillac Garage on Nov. 7, 1911. Taylor rode down from Los Angeles in a hired automobile and stopped at the garage to buy gasoline. He gave the check. His preliminary examination is set for 9 o'clock, January 6.

M. V. B. Lovering an old and highly esteemed resident of Orange-thorpe avenue, is lying at the point of death with varicose veins and complications due to the infirmities of old age. Mr. Lovering is aged 78 years, and has been a resident of Orangethorpe for more than thirty years. He has many friends throughout the county who will regret to learn of his illness.
On next Sunday at the Methodist church the pastor will speak in the morning on the subject of "Prayer." In the evening the services will be evangelistic. During the week there will be services each evening.
