REGISTRATION FIGURES
Republicans Outnumber Democrats 3 to 1 in Orange County
County Clerk Williams has completed the figures of registration in Orange county, which show the republicans outnumber the democrats more than 3 to 1. In the county entitled to vote at the primary election on Aug. 16 are 5140 republicans, 1536 democrats, 251 prohibitionists and 205 socialists Those declining to state their party affiliation number 281, and those who have registered independent number 18.
The registration at this time is greater than the registration for the presidential election in 1908.
The remarkable feature of the figures is the high total of republicans. Compared with the vote for Taft, there is an increase of about 1900 a gain of nearly 60 per cent.
For comparison: The 1906 vote on governor in Orange county was: Gillett, rep., 2566; Bell, dem., 1629; Blanchard, pop., 359; Lewis, soc.,316; Langond, ind., 514. The vote for president stood: Taft, 3244; Bryan, 1911; Chafin, 451; Debs, 375; Hisgen 65.
The figures of the county clerk show 1896 more republican registered now than there were votes for Taft two years ago; shows 375 fewer democrats than there were votes for Bryan; shows 2 fewer prohibitionists and 170 fewer socialists than there were votes cast for Blanchard and Debs; shows 38 fewer independence-league.
The total of the minus figures for the democratic, prohibitionist, socialist and independence league reaches 745. That, as may be easily seen, does not explain the increase of 5140 registered republicans now over the republican vote two years ago. A large proportion of the 745 undoubtedly went into the republican party, while also a large proportion must have gone into the "declines to state" column, the total of which is 281. The bulk of the increased number of republicans must have come from the 1200 or 1300 men who did not vote at the 1908 election though they were registered.
The republicans are outnumbered by the democrats in only one precinct in the county, and that precinct is Trabuco. It remained for Trabuco to uphold the banner of the uninterfaced with a showing of 11 democrats and 7 republicans out of its total registration of 18. Silverado almost proved a democratic stronghold. That precinct shows 5 democrats and 5 republicans.
The registration in Santa Ana is: Republican 1394, democrats 436, prohibition 76, socialist 35, declines to state 79, independence 1; total 2001.
The registration figures show the third supervisorial district to be two and a half times the second district.
In the five districts the relative strength of the registration of republicans and democrats is as follows: First district, comprising the first, second, third and fifth wards of Santa Ana, republican 1098, democrat 230. Second, republican 589, democrat 196. Third, republican 1437, democrat 412. Fourth, republican 957, democrat 245. Fifth, republican 953, democrat 310.
Figures by precincts are as follows:

FIGURES OF THE CENSUS
Many Counties North Show Decrease of School Children
One of the peculiar things about the school census of California is that San Francisco shows a loss of 13,229 census children as compared with last year. This shows, probably, the bay county was guilty of stuffing the rolls last year, at least to some extent, and that it is also upon the census toboggan. Los Angeles also shows a loss of 278 census children, which is the first time/that county has shown a loss in 25 years. Probably Los Angeles did a bit of stuffing last year, at least so reports have it. The county has made notable progress the past year, and why it shows a decrease in the school census is a mystery. The following figures show the returns from counties which made a gain the past year:

A WORD FROM MR. McBRIDE
To the Republican Voters of Orange County:
Finding it impossible to make a complete canvass of the county, I take this method of addressing you in regard to my candidacy for the republican nomination for county surveyor.
Having been raised in the county from boyhood, worked my own way through the county schools, and after having been practicing my chosen profession for the last seven years, under Col. S. H. Finley, I now feel that I am capable of starting out in business for myself.
If you feel that an Orange county boy is entitled to an Orange county job, I respectfully request that you remember me on Tuesday next.
J. L. McBRIDE,
Licensed Surveyor.
Hiram Johnson says he takes his political inspiration from Senator Cummings of Iowa. Cummings in a recent speech declared the California citrus tariff should be cut in two. How do the citrus growers of Orange county regard Johnson's candidacy for governor? Vote for Stanton and protect your own interests.

GOOD SUPPORT
Anaheim and Orange County Give Support to Local Institution
That the Home Investment Co. are figuring on retaining their Anaheim offices would seem to be proven by the fact that during the past week new carpets have been laid and a general air of permanence seems to be present. The officers of the company do not yet know which of the towns of the county will secure the general offices, but in any event the Anaheim office will be retained. We understand there is still a chance for any of the towns to win in the contest during the remaining days of August. The race has been so close that one week's work may change the result. The people of Anaheim have, during the last sixty days, taken a large block of the stock now being subscribed in the new company to be incorporated Sept. 1st, but the other towns have been doing likewise and so far it can be called anybody's race. During the last week Santa Ana produced several large subscriptions which may, unless the tide turns to some of the other towns, prove the winning wedge. We trust not, however, for Anaheim was the original home of the company, and most of the first year's dividend checks were distributed in this vicinity. If Anaheim does lose in the contest it will not be because our people lack faith in the company or do not appreciate the value of its stock as an investment, but rather because we have had so many calls upon us recently for money to advance the interests of our city and to bring new industries into our midst. Among them all, however, there is none offering greater inducements to the investor than the stock of the Home Investment Co. and the
Prize of $25.00 to be given to the Orange County resident sending in the best name for the new company which is to be incorporated about Sept. 1st to take over the business of the Home Investment Co., will be awarded on August 15th. This is the Last Issue of this paper in which this announcement will appear and all names to be considered in the contest must be received in this office not later than Aug. 10. If you want a Chance To win this $25.00 prize send in your selection today. Remember that it must be descriptive of the business of the company and should be as short and euphoneous as possible.
Mons. Pierre Nicolas with daughter, Miss Claire, and son, Paul, were the guests of Herman Stern and wife at Bay City on Sunday. The party hired a motor boat from San Pedro and pulled out twenty-three miles from shore, where fishing tackle was brought into play and eleven albicore, averaging 50 pounds each, were taken, so Stern says.
James Elliott and John McPherson, two tourists, were arrested by Officer Kellenberger on Monday night on a charge of disturbing the peace of a Lemon-street household. They rapped up the occupants and used unseemly language. Judge Howard gave them three months in the county jail, and five minutes to leave town. They hiked.
Will Harrison of Los Angeles came down Sunday to look after the 20-acre ranch which he recently purchased east of town and to visit his friend and former neighbor, J. M. Guennett. Mr. Gueunett several days ago was seriously burned by the explosion of a can of gasoline while filling the tank of his pumping plant engine. His clothing caught fire and friends who ran to his assistance were compelled to bury him in the sand to extinguish the flames. He escaped a horrible death by a narrow margin.
William Henry Harrison died at his home at the corner of Olive and Broadway on Friday of cancer of the stomach. He was born in Richland, Ill. He came to Anaheim in January distributed in this vicinity. If Anaheim does lose in the contest it will not be because our people lack faith in the company or do not appreciate the value of its stock as an investment, but rather because we have had so many calls upon us recently for money to advance the interests of our city and to bring new industries into our midst. Among them all, however, there is none offering greater inducements to the investor than the stock of the Home Investment Co. and the new company which is to be its successor. We hope, therefore, that our people will continue to uphold the reputation of Anaheim as a field in which worthy enterprises meet with a general treatment and who are ready to recognize good investments and give them their financial support.
