The new offices of the Home Investment company at 113 Center St. are nearing completion and will present a very attractive appearance. The large room in the Rust building formerly occupied by Mr. Fulde as a jewelry store, has been thoroughly renovated, the old wooden awning over the front removed and a new and attractive awning substituted; the walls have been decorated and the fittings, something after the order of bank fittings, consist of a large paneled counter with desk and chairs in the outer office for use of the public, the general office behind the counter and the secretary's and president's private offices cut off by figured glass partitions, and a well equipped workroom in rear. Mr. Olmstead expressed to the Gazette representative a hope the public would feel free to come in and inspect the office at any time. It is an encouraging sign for the good of the city to see the general movement on foot for more at tractive offices and buildings. There are still a few old style unattractive business places in town, but these we feel confident, will give place to more up-to-date fronts as the movement progresses for a clean, attractive city. Falkenstein ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA BELLUS GETS JUDGMENT Puts One Over Mr. Peters, a Promoter in a Gas Deal In Judge Conrey's court, M. L. Bellus secured a judgment for $10,000 against D. L. Peters, a promoter, on account of a deal involving the sale and transfer of the gas plant at Orange. Bellus, Peters and John W. Kemp entered into a contract for the purpose of embarking in the gas business, plant, appliances, pipe lines, etc. In January, 1909, negotiations were entered into with H. L. Willits, the owner of the gas works at Orange, to see upon what terms the business could be purchased for Bellus, Peters and Kemp. Peters represented it is alleged that $28,500 was the lowest price, and a contract was made for the sale of the property at that figure. Under the agreement $6000 was to be the initial payment, and of this amount Bellus furnished $5000, Peters $1000, while Kemp put up his legal services as an attorney, it is said, as an offset for the cash of the other partners in the business. It was afterward ascertained that the price of the gas works was but $27,500, instead of $1000 more, as alleged by Peters, also that the $1000 paid by Peters was returned to him by the owner of the business, so that Peters really had nothing but his work in the investment. In the meantime, 40,000 shares of GLANDERS BAD AT EL TORO Supervisors Instruct County Vet to Enforce the Law That glanders has been in existence in the southern end of the county has caused considerable alarm among the stockmen. Many complaints piled up with the supervisors state that County Veterinarian W. S. McFarlane has been slow in enforcing the death penalty and in looking after the epidemic. The board of supervisors on Tuesday passed a resolution notifying Dr. McFarlane to attend to the epidemic and enforce the ordinance. After this resolution was passed, Louis Moulton of El Toro, appeared before the board and wanted to know what was going to be done about the glanders epidemic. Chairman Angle informed him of the resolution, and said: "We have told him to enforce the ordinance or take the consequences." Deputy State Veterinarian Morrison and veterinarians from this county are in the El Toro district, and have directed the killing of several animals afflicted with glanders.
