Dr. Harold Wickett, whose engagement to Miss Ethel Chapman of Fullerton is announced, will spend a six-months' honeymoon trip with his bride in touring Europe.
Mrs. Otto Strodthoff accompanied by her children spent the week end with her mother-in-law, Mrs. Strodthoff. Otto came down on Sunday to spend the day and take his family home on the evening northbound.
The American Savings bank of Anaheim has petitioned the superior court to be allowed to change its name to the American Commercial & Savings bank. The hearing of the petition has been set for April 15.
The Orange Daily News is two years old, and has passed out of the paragoric stage. Other papers much older than the News are still afflicted with the cramps, but there seems to be little hope of a permanent recovery for them. Long life to the News, and may its shadow never grow less.

Frank Vegely was in town on Friday setting a campaign pace while a Santa Ana blew up dust and rendered matters disagreeable. Frank is out for the nomination, and says he's going to land it.
Members of Anaheim lodge, No. 105 Knights of Pythias, and their wives and lady friends, to the number of ninety-seven, attended the banquet given in Los Angeles on Thursday evening in honor of Col. J. O. Royer by Co. 25, Uniform Rank, K. of P., most of whose members reside here. Richard Melrose acted as toastmaster at the banquet.
Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Rea accompanied an excursion of 150 people from Los Angeles to Fresno and other points north last week. They visited Porterville, Exeter, Dinuba, Visalia, Fresno, Corcoran and other points, and at Bakerfield viewed the Union oil company's new gusher, which yields 50,000 barrels of oil daily. They report an enjoyable trip.

Deputy Clerk Williamson was over from Santa Ana a day or two ago collecting new registrations for purposes of compilation by the county statistician.
Mrs. Gerald Ward of Mazatlan, Mexico, visited with friends in town on Friday. Mrs. Ward is at present a resident of Los Angeles, where her four children are attending school.
Gus Stern has been appointed verification deputy at Fullerton for Hon. P. A. Stanton. Mr. Stern is an enthusiastic supporter of Mr. Stanton, and loses no opportunity for putting in a word for the candidate.
Miss Cora Lewis returned to her home in Los Angeles on Tuesday after spending several days with relatives here. She drove up in a new auto in the manipulation of which she is an expert.
Rev. Moore and family have returned to this city from Santa Ana and have taken up their residence on East street. Mr. Moore will devote himself to the real-estate business.
Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Lewis entertained the Four-Fours club on Friday evening when a most enjoyable time was spent until the wee sma’ hours of the morning. Mrs. Whiting won the ladies prize, a brass rose leaf jar, and Henry Adams won a stein.

Mrs. Vander Horck gave a charming reception on Monday afternoon in honor of her house guest, Mrs. B. A. Lara of Santa Monica. She was assisted by Mrs. McLauchlin, Mrs. Hatfeld, Mrs. Wallop, Mrs. Chambers and Miss Houck. Delicious refreshments were served during the afternoon.
The engagement is announced of Dr. John H. Boege of this city and Miss Augusta Jacobsen of Orange. The wedding will occur in the near future. Dr. Boege is erecting a handsome residence at the West End, where the happy couple will make their home.

Smothering in dust, and unconscious, George W. Ford, a pioneer rancher and racehorse man, was picked up some nights ago at the corner of Ross street and Washington avenue in Santa Ana. His horse ran away, threw Ford out of the buggy, and he was found face down in dust, his head covered by his overcoat. Ford was taken to his home, a few rods away. His scalp was split open and his face badly bruised, but no bones were broken.
Jacob Stern has sold to the Amalgamated oil company of California 200 acres of land directly north of Fullerton, in sections 22 and 23. This land is close to Fullerton and the transaction is attracting attention to the possibility of a new oil territory. Mr. Stern has considerable land in these two sections. The purchase price of this land is reported to have been $75,000.
Stern & Goodman on Monday closed their store in the Koll building on Center street. The firm was unable to secure larger premises for their business, which they have been seeking for several months past. They do not intend to retire from this city, however, and according to report will in the near future open one of the largest department stores in the county. They have done business here, and intend going after more of it with a new store and a new stock of goods.

Charley underwent three weeks' treatment at a Los Angeles hospital, and suffers no discomfiture from the bite.
Julius Reck, a wealthy farmer, Chas. Rehn, county treasurer, and Alfred Soderlind, cashier of the state bank, all hailing from Lake Benton, Minnesota, spent several days visiting with Jacob Wittmer. The gentlemen traveled over the state from one end to the other but found no place to compare with Anaheim, and will in all probability return next winter to locate permanently.
Lee M. Hopper has amassed a competency in the newspaper business, and has retired from editorial control of the Santa Ana Bulletin, having sold his half interest in that paper to Charles D. Overshiner. Mr. Hopper goes on a visit to relatives in Kentucky. The new firm will be composed of M. A. Yarnell and Mr. Overshiner, who will continue the Bulletin as a democratic paper.

ORANGE COUNTY W.C.T.U.
The Orange County W.C.T.U. met in annual convention at the M. E. church in Fullerton this week. On Tuesday afternoon the ladies were joined at the church by the grammar school pupils who marched with them, led by the Fullerton military band, to the dedication of the drinking fountain, given to the city by the local union. The exercises at the fountain were impressive. C. C. Chap man led in prayer, and then Mrs.Norman, county president of the W.C.T.U., presented the fountain to the city. It was accepted by ex-Mayor Coulter. The children then sang "America." Rev. J. T. Hopkins led in prayer. After a selection by the band Rev. Mr. Embree dismissed the meeting with prayer.
City Trustee R. J. Thompson of Santa Ana threatens to resign as street committeeman because the remainder of the council voted to grant gravel and oil pavement on North Main street contrary to Thompson's recommendation that heavy rock and oil macadam be used. "I am ready to quit," he declared. The other trustees reasoned with him, and he may stay on the committee.
