The game was featured by brilliant fielding and classy twirling. Owing to the Goldsmith team entering the Southern State League, the Yeoman nine were sent to fill the date. The Yeomen won the pennant in the city league and Anaheim won in the Interurban league. The teams clashed for the championship of both leagues. Henry Gonzales, formerly of the Bishop team in the city league, was in the box for the Anaheim team. He pitched a heady game and only for a mixup between Valencia and Huntington would have scored a shutout. Not only was he contented with twirling a good game but his hit in the second brought in the first run and in the seventh he scored the winning run. Schneider caught his delivery in big league style and his peg to the bases was true. A groan was heard in the grandstand when Schneider went in to catch, but soon changed to one of praise when inning after inning his work improved. The fielding feature of the game was Houlsby catch of Fisher's hit to right, while batting honors went to Huntington with two 2-base hits in four trips to the plate. "Red" Perkins, president of the city league, came down to witness the contest and get a line on one of the Anaheim players. It was Red's work in getting the two teams together and he now vows that the next team he sends down will wallop with Valencia and allowing Sankey and Brauer to score. Schneider hit to Fisher who forced Smith at second, retiring the side. In their half of the seventh locals put over the winning run. Fisher played third in Carpenter style, getting 4 assists and one put out without a miscue. Valencia played his usual game at short, getting three assists and two putouts without an error. Schneider caught the game in big league style. He handled Gonzales' curves like an old-timer and his pegs were true. He allowed only one stolen base. Goddard was there with the opening hit and run of the game. Huntigtonn was the only one to make an error, his miscue letting in the two runs secured. His two 2-base hits more than evened up matters. Gonzales pitched a heady game from start to finish. He was entitled to a shutout. He also hit the ball getting two out of four times up. J. Hendricks on first played his usual good game, getting 11 putouts. His sacrifice hit when the hit and run sign was given, scoring Huntington in the third, was classy. Spencer was poor on bases. Not only did he keep Hendricks from making a two-base hit by loafing between first and second but he robbed the team of a run, as the catcher let a ball get away from him a minute later. H. Hendricks in centerfield made a nice running catch, retiring Schneidecker and the side in the third. He hit the ball safe twice out of 3 times up. Next Sunday, April 10, the locals cross bats with the Boynton Beavers considered the best amateur team in Los Angeles. No. 6481 REPORT OF THE CONDITION OF THE First National Bank OF ANAHEIM The fielding feature of the game was Houlsby catch of Fisher's hit to right, while batting honors went to Huntington with two 2-base hits in four trips to the plate. "Red" Perkins, president of the city league, came down to witness the contest and get a line on one of the Anaheim players. It was Red's work in getting the two teams together and he now vows that the next team he sends down will wallop the locals to a farewell. The game was played for the benefit of Benny Carpenter, who is laid up with a bruised knee, and a nice little sum was realized. The same was handed over to him on Monday as was also the $5 pipe given by Manager Fisher for the best batting average. The report that Benny had signed up with Santa Ana is without foundation, as he will be with the locals as soon as he is well. Anaheim started scoring in the second. Goddard hit a line drive over the second baseman and Huntington hit one over the left fielder for two bases, sending Goddard to third. Gonzales hit safe between short and third, scoring Goddard and putting Huntington on third. Gonzales stole second. On the hit and run sign Huntington scored, while J. Hendricks was out at first. Gonzales was caught off third. Spencer grounded out, Smith to Sankey, retiring the side. Yeomans were blanked until the seventh when they were presented with two runs, tieing the score. Sankey first up hit down third base line for a single. Brauer hit to center for two bags, advancing Sankey to third. With a man on second and third Gonzales struck out the next two men. Smith popped a dinky fly over second. Valencia called for the ball but Huntington thinking Clyde could not get it made a try, colliding ANAHEIM GAZETTE ACATE OUR STORE BY ing Must Go at One=H ing, but sell at your own price.
