Gene Wilson, a traveling man of Los Angeles, was in town this week selling goods and telling funny stories.
Peter Stoffel is the happy father of a young son and heir who arrived some days ago. Mother and child are doing well.
C. E. Holcomb spent several days last week at Thermal, looking over his property interests there.
The scrub nine of the high school went down and out to the grammar school boys on Saturday afternoon by a score of 9 to 11.
Prof. Crieger is expected to arrive this week from the east and take charge of the brass band as its instructor.
Ed Amerige was in town from Fullerton on Monday afternoon. He recently returned from a six months' visit to Boston and other points east.
Richard Fischle has purchased the Mission candy store from Richard Schellens, and will in future conduct the same as a first-class ice cream and confectionery establishment. He will deal in a fine line of cakes and pastry, and will have on sale only high-class home-made confections.
L. J. Christopher of Los Angeles was in town on Sunday in his auto, accompanied by a party of friends. Mr. Christopher has property interests here, and says the city has a most promising future. He confirms the report that Miss Denker will soon begin the erection of a large two-story brick building on her lot across the street from the city hall.
Frank Vegely was in town from Santa Ana on Tuesday.
Joe Goodman was a business visitor in town yesterday from Fullerton.
Charles E. Jones has returned from a trip to the Victorville mines.
City Clerk Merritt reports building permits for February amounted to $13,600.
Julius Schneider was a business visitor in Los Angeles on Friday.
Ben Kraemer was in town a day or two ago from his Placentia ranch. The country needs rain, he says.
Mr. Armbruster has commenced the erection of a $2500 residence on Citron street.
The next number of the highschool entertainment course will be Whittier glee club, which will appear in the school auditorium March 11.
S. S. C. club composed of sixteen young people of the city went to the county park Sunday in a tallyho. A way-up time is reported.
Joseph Fiscus, incumbent, hereby announces that he will be a candidate for the office of City Trustee at the April election.

Murray Paschall and Fred Dyckman will open their Star moving picture show at 111 West Center street on Saturday evening. Everything will be new and the boys are going to give the public nothing but good shows. Miss Louisa Paschall will sing at the entertainments and will no doubt be a drawing card, her accomplishments as a vocalist being highly appreciated. Three entire changes of program every week and two shows a night is the way the management has it mapped out for the public amusement. Full houses will no doubt be the slogan from the start.

The locals take the affirmative side of the question, Resolved, That three-fourths of a jury should be sufficient to render a verdict in all jury cases. The debate occurs in Los Angeles the latter part of the month.

F. S. McGinnis of Los Angeles, traveling passenger agent of the Southern Pacific, was in town on Tuesday looking after the itinerary of the demonstration train.
Max Nebelung has consented to a request by many friends and will be a candidate for city trustee at the municipal election next month.
The W.C.T.U. will have its annual election of officers Tuesday, at 2:30 p.m., March 8th, at the Methodist church. All of the members are earnestly requested to be present.
The freshman class of the highschool entertained the school at the auditorium on Monday morning, when a program of three dialogues was appropriately rendered. The four classes take turnabout in entertaining the school. The sophomores entertain on

Mr. Neff went to Whittier Tuesday to look after the refitting of the walnut exhibit car attached to the demonstration train.
Miss Zoe Lemon entertained the sophomore class of the highschool at her home on North Los Angeles St. on Saturday evening. Games were played and refreshments served. The class presented the young hostess with a nice souvenir spoon as a momento of the occasion, it being her sixteenth birthday.
Mrs. Wm. Chambers, grand sentinel O.E.S., and Mrs. Eva Boyd attended a meeting of the Whittier chapter on Friday evening and of the Los Angeles chapter on Saturday evening. Grand officers were present and interesting meetings were enjoyed. Both ladies go to Los Angeles again next Saturday evening to meet the grand officers.
A republican club has been formed in this city and proposes to take an active part in the coming campaign. Officers elected are J. S. Howard president, F. C. Spencer vice president, Harry Whitaker secretary and Frank Shanley treasurer. A large membership is being enrolled, and the club will be active in the support news and business.

Joseph Helmsen, Gerald Sandilands and Dr. Johnston have purchased Flanders touring cars through the Beebe-Weisel company. The demand for these new cars is such that delivery cannot keep up with the orders, and it will probably be May 1st before the cars are received.
W. J. Carnine of Colorado is here on a visit to his brother, L. T. Carbine. He is a veteran of the civil war and is enjoying the salubrious climate of Southern California while blizzards rage in his home state. He is in the apple and peach business, and his stories of profits realized in those fruits make the California orange grower look to his laurels.
The Odd Fellows of this city announce that Rev. J. W. Van Kirk of Boston, Mass., will deliver a lecture on the "Brotherhood of Man," at the Odd Fellows' hall on Tuesday evening, March 8. Rev. Van Kirk is an interesting speaker and has chosen an instructive subject. All Odd Fellows and Rebekahs and their friends are cordially invited to attend.
A party in two autos consisting of Major Royer, Richard Melrose, John Hartung, Edgar Hartung, A. L. Lewis, V. U. Simpson, Clinton Idlor and C. W. C. Patterson went to Whittler on Sunday to inspect the K. P. hall there, with a view to reporting to the local lodge points of advantage therein contained.
They lunched with J. P. Greeley at the State school, and returned home in the evening. Major Royer, C. W. C. Patterson and V. U. Simpson and other members of the lodge visited lodgerooms in Los Angeles the past week. Their views will be adopted by the architect of Mrs. Denker's new building shortly to be erected here, and which the local lodge will occupy.

Monday evening to attend a reception and banquet tendered the grand patron, grand matron and other officers of the grand lodge. Mrs. Chambers of this city is grand sentinel of the grand lodge, and with her associates enjoyed a very pleasant meeting with the other grand lodge officers. All report an enjoyable evening.
