S. M. Davis, the present district attorney, has formally made announcement that he will be a candidate at the primary election next August on the republican ticket. He has been a fearless and at the same time a fair and able prosecutor of the law. He has always decided the questions that have come before him as questions of law and not on account of personal feelings or prejudice. There are very many voters in the county that feel he has conducted his office on the basis of a "square deal to every man."
Mr. Dickel left hurriedly for Berkeley on Sunday in answer to a telegram apprising the family that Ted Dickel had been operated upon for appendicitis. A letter received from Arnold Dickel on Monday stated that Ted had been off on a geological trip to South San Francisco with some of his classmates, when he was suddenly taken with pains in the right side. He was taken back to his rooms in Berkeley where he became worse, and was then taken to the college infirmary where the operation was performed. Another telegram received later on Monday brought the good news that Ted had pulled through the operation in good shape.

John Hahn the well-known livery man, announces himself in this issue as a candidate for the republican nomination for supervisor of this district. Mr. Hahn is of opinion that Anaheim should name the candidate, and expresses the belief that he is qualified to fulfill the duties of the office. He has been a resident of this city for many years, and has the confidence and esteem of all who know him. He will have his nomination petitions out this week, and will ask republican voters to sign them in every precinct of the district. He is a campaigner who will set the pace in spirited fashion, will make the fight on his merits, giving voice to no criticism of his opponents, and standing squarely on his record as a citizen and taxpayer. Should he land the nomination, his friends will exert an endeavor to put him under the wire ahead of his democratic opponent on election day.
