Betke's neighbors talk of deporting him. Mr. and Mrs. Will S. Fish accompanied the K. P. excursion from Los Angeles on Sunday and spent a pleasant day visiting with old-time friends. They marched in the parade, renewed acquaintanceship with many, and marveled at the growth of Anaheim. Douglas & Wheeler announce in another column that they are prepared to do all kinds of carriage and auto painting at their place of business, 122 North Los Angeles street. They are artistic painters and are turning out work in the highest style of the art. Give them a call. F. A. Yungbluth has sold his residence property on North Lemon St. to J. S. Sheridan, recently arrived from Columbia, South Dakota, for $3,500. Mr. Sheridan will be joined soon by his family, and will take up his permanent residence here. Mr. Yungbluth will rent a home, and will later erect a commodious residence. Charles Bauer was in town a day or two ago, having driven over from his orange grove at Cucamonga. He has fifteen acres of Navels which compare with the best in the valley. Mr. Bauer makes the proud boast that his orchard is absolutely free of scale and never was infested with the scale in any form. His section is also in the frostless belt. He has a good proposition. A quiet title suit has been begun in the superior court of this county by Adelheid Konig against Gustave Brandt, C. P. Borland, C. E. Groat, Edward Fring and Wendell Easton. H. Alex Henry was out in his new Studebaker thirty-horse-power auto on Sunday, and was one of the features of the parade. Attired in his suit of kilts he escorted a number of ladies to points of interest about town. On their departure they declared Alexander was the handsomest man in town. The congregation of the Presbyterian church was given a glad surprise last Sunday morning when Rev. Mr. Douglas of Persia came in unexpectedly and gave an interesting talk on Christian work in that ancient land. Truly the hearts of men are being drawn to each other as never before. The pastor's subject as announced for last Sunday will be given next Sunday morning. The subject for evening is The Defeat of Amalek Where are you going to church next Sunday. Miss Irene Holbrook, the eleven-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. V. A. Holbrook, was slightly injured while alighting from a carriage at the family home in the Royer tract on Sunday afternoon after the parade. Her foot slipped and the horse started, but a bad accident was averted by the presence of mind of Mr. Schlosser, who immediately stopped the animal. The rear wheel grazed the limb, which was painfully bruised, but no permanent injury resulted. Mr. and Mrs. R. G. Beattie of Joliet, Montana, who are spending the winter in Southern California, were guests this week of Mr. and Mrs. Simpson. Mr. Beattie is a retired stockholder of Montana now owned by Mexico. Herman Dickel sustained a dislocation of the middle finger of the right hand by a fall in his cellar on Monday morning. Dr. Johnston attended to the injury, and though painful the accident did not deter Mr. Dickel from attending to his business duties. The store of Whitaker & Perry at West Anaheim was entered by a burglar Thursday night who secured $46 in cash, $6 or $7 of which was in pennies tied up in 50 cent and 25 cent packages. The money was secured from a small safe in the store. Evidently money was all the burglar was after, for goods in stock were not disturbed. James Toland who has been held in the county jail for a month past on a charge of burglarizing the premises of Bert Ryssman east of town, was on Monday committed to the insane asylum at Patton by Judge West. Toland was released from the asylum a year ago, having been committed from San Diego. His identity was revealed by tattoo marks on the body. Harry Dyer ran into a man by the name of Anthony one afternoon last week at the corner of Sycamore and Fourth streets, Santa Ana. Anthony was trying to dodge a team, when he saw he would be struck by the big machine and he pluckily grasped the radiator and hung on until Mr. Dyer could stop. The county board of education is engaged in preparing examination questions for the second period examination of the sixth, seventh and eighth grades of the county schools. The exact date of the examination is March 2 and 3. Heretofore there have been four quarterly examinations, but this year they have been changed to three periods to save the scholars and teachers work. Mr. Neff left last evening for Imperial, where he today joins the demonstration train touring that county. He was with the train at Pomona last week, and reports large crowds meeting it everywhere. Records are being kept of the attendance. In one day in the Pomona valley more than 2000 visitors viewed the exhibits in the cars. The train will be in Anaheim for an afternoon and evening meeting March 9th. The train will arrive early in the afternoon, and visitors will be welcome at the cars, where exhibits will be on display and lectures delivered by men of learning accompanying the train. In the evening a meeting will be held at the opera-house, to which the public is invited. Mr. Neff will return the latter part of the week. Clyde Bishop, president of the Newport Harbor Association, has received a letter from Lieutenant Leeds of the United States Engineer's office in Los Angeles, to effect that the application of the Newport Land Co. for dredging and filling on Balboa Island is in exact conformity with the suggestion made by Captain Fries in his report to the War Department in the successful fight made by the harbor association against the Newport Land Company's former petition for dredging and filling. McCulley sued to rescind a realty deal, in which he traded a 20-acre ranch to the defendants for an interest in an apartment house in Los Angeles. McCulley declared the house was not as it was represented to him by the defendants. Particular interest was directed to this action when it was begun, for the reason that it was about that time that Gary was shot by Edward Reinert as the result of another real estate deal in which it was asserted that Gary had defrauded.The shooting occurred in Attorney Forgy's office in Santa Ana and for many days it was believed Gary would die.Loveless is a cousin of Gary, and he, too, was concerned in the Reinert transaction.
