Markle, won a judgment against the Pacific Electric railroad, in the Los Angeles superior court the other day, in amount $12,500, for damages sustained in a collision of cars, in that city, in April a year ago. He sustained serious injury, and for a time recovery was despaired of. The collision occurred in a heavy fog, and was due to negligence of the other Squirrel Poison at Heying Bros. Morrison of Orange has gone to Texas with a view of locating permanently. He contemplates entering the commission business, and has listed his property at Orange for sale. Pavers this week completed Los Angeles street as far south as Santa Ana street, as well as a short strip on East Center near Atchison. They are now ready for West Center. The unmarried women of the Rebekah Lodge gave an entertainment and banquet Friday night to members of the order and invited guests. One hundred and twenty people were present. Edward Pagel, a banker and leading citizen of Joliet, Montana, is in town, a guest of his friend Virgil Simpson. Mr. Pagel is interested in banking circles in Joliet, and is installing an electric-lighting plant of large capacity. He intends spending the winter in Southern California, and during the week has been shown Squirrel Poison at Heying Bros. R. H. Deakens is erecting a $150 cottage on Bush street. Arthur Jewell is in Redlands this week in the interest of the Home investment company. Mrs. Bertha Bennerscheidt has asked for letters of administration on the estate of her deceased husband, Carl Bennerscheidt. The estate consists of ten acres, worth $8000. The heirs number eight. B. F. Houser has sold his ranch of sixty acres, southwest of town, to J. Grandy for $16,000. The eighty-acre Newson place, near West Anaheim, has been sold to Carrie B. Hennicon for $14,000. Phone your special orders. R. B. Herman has brought to this office a copy of the Lincoln, Ill., Times Courier of date Nov. 26th, containing a photograph of J. F. Hyde, treasurer of that city. Mr. Hyde filled the same office when Mr. Herman was a member of the board of trustees of that city. He recently celebrated his ninety-sixth birthday, and has held the office of city treasurer for many years. He has chewed and smoked tobacco for over 80 years. Morris Smith suffered a severe sprain of his right ankle recently by having a 200-pound bale of hay fall upon his leg. He was in the act of pulling down the bale from off a high stack, and after freeing the bale, two more came tumbling down. Morris foresaw the impending danger and tried to sidestep the falling bales but one struck his leg a side blow, thus fracturing the ankle. The pain was severe, and he for several days got about on crutches, and is now well along on the road to recovery. Elmer L. Goodrich and Mrs. Elizabeth Klus surprised their many friends on Thursday by going to San Diego to be married. Santitos Carrisosa was sentenced by Judge Howard on Monday to serve six months in the county jail. Santitos engaged in a fight in Ruiz's pool room earlier in the day, and succeeded in smashing glass and raising a riotous disturbance. His previous offenses were many, and he always escaped with a fine. This time it was different, and he will spend the next half year in the county bastile. The members of the Four Four club were entertained by Hugo Strodthoff Wednesday evening of last week, at his home on North Lemon street. Progressive whist was the feature. The ladies' prize, a cut-glass dish, was won by Mrs. Welborn Wallop, while the gentleman's prize, a pocket-book, was won by J. P. Hatzfeld. The club will be entertained next month by Mr. and Mrs. Welborn Wallop. An interlocutory decree of divorce given in the Fresno superior court last March has just been set aside on the request of the husband and wife concerned in the divorce action, the case has been dismissed and the man and woman are living together happily as one could wish. The interlocutory decree was given Lillie M. Gunther from Ellis H. Gunther, formerly an employee of the Olive milling company at Olive. Frank H. Mouser of Los Angeles, candidate for the republican nomination for Secretary of State, was in town the first of the week and dropped in for a brief call at the sanctum. Mr. Mouser is being supported by his friends in Los Angeles county and will no doubt make a strong showing at the primaries next year. It would seem that Southern California is entitled to more of the offices than come south. At present friends of the north get the lion's share—the governor, lieut.-governor, attorney-general, secretary of state and state controller come from the north. Emil Fossek returned to this city on Saturday from Nome, Alaska, after an absence of eight years. He will remain for the holidays and will early in the new year go to Seattle, near which place he recently bought forty acres of land. He will improve his holdings, and in the spring will return to Nome. He has several rich prospects, and expects to develop them. Anaheim Aerie, No. 947, F.O.E., on Monday evening elected the following officers to serve for the ensuing year: W. G. Mason, worthy past president; S. W. Cottle, worthy president; S. D. Rule, worthy vice president; Sam Petrucelli, chaplain; Chas. Kuchel, secretary; C. G. Billings, treasurer; Edward Marion, Inside guardian; N. B. Tedford, outside guardian; Levi Mann, J. M. Northcross, W. M. Stewart, trustees; Dr. J. L. Beebe, examining physician. Mrs. J. Collins, aged 46, wife of the foreman of the production department of the Santa Fe at Olinda, died on Sunday night of apoplexy. She was striken Saturday night. During her short illness she was unconscious Up to Saturday night she seemed to be enjoying the best of health, and had supper with the other members of the family at the regular hour.The funeral was held on Tuesday afternoon at the Catholic church in this city. Services were held at the grave by the Fraternal Brotherhood of Olinda, the deceased being a member of that order. The board of equalization that so unjustly raised the tax rate in Southern California come from the north, with the exception of one member: Mr. Mouser is the first candidate for state office to come to Orange county this year. He sizes up well, and looks well. He is making a strong fight for the nomination, and it's little harm we wish him. Mark Carvajabal, aged 14 years, the son of a Mexican family living in Fullerton, was instantly killed in that city on Tuesday at noon by being run over by a freight train which was switching on the main track. The boy was playing with another lad and started to run across the track for a rubber ball when he was caught under the wheels of the freight, which was running backward. The brake-man yelled to the boy and it is said the danger bell was ringing, but for some reason the boy did not hear the warning. The lad's head was crushed so badly that it was almost impossible for his own relatives to recognize him. His breast was badly crushed. The city marshal and all the employees at the depot have frequently warned the boys about playing around the depot, especially when trains are switching. E. E. Angell has retired from the Beebe-Weisel machine works. Miss Gertrude Asher returned on Monday evening from a several-weeks visit with relatives in San Bernardino. H. H. Gunderson transacted business in Los Angeles on Monday, and put in a portion of the afternoon listening to music by bands of the rival candidates for mayor. John Pfeninger was in town from Fullerton on Tuesday afternoon. He had just completed irrigating his 34-acre orchard tract, when it began raining. He looks for more rain. The Lomita Land and Water Company has filed suit against the Los Angeles Interurban Railway Company for damages in the sum of $15,000. The complaint alleges that on November 1, 1905, the defendant corporation entered into and took possession of a strip fifteen feet wide on each side of a certain line through plaintiff's property, making thirty feet in all to be used as a right of way. The plaintiff asks the court for judgment for $10,000 damages because of wrongful possession of the property by defendants, and $5000 additional loss for rents and profits by plaintiffs. Restitution of the property is also asked for. Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Neff have returned from a week's visit in Imperial county, where Mr. Neff conducted a series of farmers' institutes. The Mrs. Ethel Enfield property, corner Broadway and Olive streets, has been sold to Mrs. Emma Nagel. Orange Co. Realty company made the sale. Robert Hansen sold his walnut orchard 2 miles southwest of town to the Fergus Brothers of Santa Barbara, Cal. Consideration, $12,050.The new owners will take possession New Year. County Tax Collector Lamb has completed the footings for his collections for first installment taxes, and the total comes to $357,715.78. Last year the total collections for the first installment was $245,546.70.
