President Thomas and Cashier Boege of the German-American bank had dealings with a bank swindler the past few weeks, but their ideas of old-fashioned honesty, coupled with an eagle eye, turned the count down hard. These gentlemen actually had the audacity to refuse payment on a $10,000 check presented by the count. Has it come to this, that the nobility cannot get money from a couple of country bankers when in need of it? Holy Moses, what an impoliteness.
The suit of the Commercial bank of Santa Ana to recover $5000 from John R. Gardner, J. E. Nelson, Charles Campbell and other promoters of the Kelso mine was dismissed this week in the Superior Court. Herman Stock had a horse badly scarred although not seriously injured by falling through the roof of his barn on Clementina street. The animal was high spirited and leaped upon a manure pile, going thence up on the roof of the stable. It fell a distance of ten feet, and was scarred upon the stomach by being scratched by projecting beams. Otherwise it escaped injury. The Superior Court has declared the organization of the Delhi drainage district valid, and declared the $25,000 bonds of the district also to be valid. The district was organized for the purpose of putting in a system to drain 7000 acres in the Delhi, Pollorino and Old Newport districts. Bonds were voted. In order to back up the bonds that there might be no question in the minds of bond buyers, the action in judgment was entered and was brought by Attorneys Williams & Rutan for the district, of which A. Judgment was given by Judge West and the bonds and the district both declared legal.
All times efforts will be exerted to the end that work entrusted to them will be promptly and satisfactorily turned out. Patronize home industry.

The estate consists of about $6000 life insurance, the lands and other property having been deeded to heirs before death of testator. The heirs are two daughters of the deceased, Wilhelmina J. Holcomb and Dorothea Zeyn, both of this city. The petition states that Zeyn wrote a will in 1905. In 1907 he wrote another will revoking the 1905 will, and since 1907 he revoked the 1907 will and destroyed it. E. F. Wehrle of Los Angeles is attorney for the petitioner.

Speed fiends in a red automobile ran down H. H. Reeves at Santa Ana on Sunday night. Seeing the victim lying on the pavement, the chauffeur, who had slowed down for a second, put his machine to the highest speed. The automobile was occupied by five or six young men, who were yelling and laughing as the machine tore madly through the city. Reeves and his wife were returning from church on their bicycles. When they heard the automobile coming behind them they took the middle of the street. Just before reaching them the car swerved to the middle of the street; a mud guard caught Reeves' bicycle, threw the man twenty feet and dragged the bicycle fifty feet. Eye witnesses state that when just on the point of striking Reeves the driver slowed slightly, but with the damage done, speed was put on. The injured man was taken home. No bones were broken, but the man was bruised from head to foot and suffered terribly from shock.
