J. D. Banker is closing up the season's orange operations by shipping ten cars of Valencias to eastern markets.
Reginaldo Crespin departed this week for Santa Fe, N. M., and Trinidad, Col., where he will remain for some time for the benefit of his health.
Mrs. A. R. Perry's class in music gave a pleasing piano recital at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Quarton-Thursday evening. Refreshments were served.
Samuel Kraemer came up from Long Beach on Saturday to attend a meeting of the fruit association. Mr. Kraemer has been several weeks at the beach, where his family is spending the summer.

Emil Dreyfus dropped into town from San Francisco one day last week to attend to matters of business. He signed up for paving and for opening the alley in rear of his property south of Center street. He reports things in San Francisco "pretty fancy" and the town rebuilding and getting better all the time. He returned north on the evening train.

Mr. Ruddock is one of the most widely known peace officers of Orange county, and as Marshal of the city of Fullerton has earned an enviable record. He will be a candidate for sheriff at next year's primaries and if sterling integrity and competency count for anything he will land the nomination hands down. At the subsequent election it will be a pleasure to support and elect him.

Clarence Groat drove over from Long Beach on Sunday in his auto. Mr. Groat has a large rooming house at Long Beach and drove over to Henry Schneider and family were visitors at Laguna on Sunday.

Mr. and Mrs. Henry Strodthoff have returned from the fair at Seattle and leave shortly for their home in Douglass, A. T.
L. K. Marshall is preparing plans for a ten-room building to be erected by Dr. McFarlane on Oak street. The building will cost $1800.

On his return trip he will visit Denver, Salt Lake, San Francisco and other points in California. He will be accompanied by Mrs. M. P. Sanders, mother of his aunt, Mrs. Spake. She will remain in the Lone Star state.
Hollis Knowlton of Fullerton had a narrow escape from drowning at Laguna Beach some days ago. Knowlton is not a strong swimmer, and he ventured out too far beyond the breakers. He suddenly found himself exhausted and unable to make headway. His calls for help attracted a number of people on the beach. Guy Brooks of Laguna swam out to the exhausted boy. Fortunately he did not seize him, as is so often done by one fearful of drowning. Brooks took hold of Knowlton and brought him to the shore.
J. B. Rea spent a day recently in driving through the celery fields at Smeltzer and the bean plantations on the San Joaquin ranch. He found the celery crop looking well and promising a fine yield. On the San Joaquin ranch he met James Irvine, who personally escorted him over his holdings. Mr. Irvine has 17,000 acres in beans, 1500 in walnuts and 500 in citrus fruits. He is developing water and is transforming the ranch into a garden spot. Mr. Rea states that he never saw a finer sight than the miles upon miles of beans now nearing maturity on the San Joaquin.
When C. O. Rust attempted to start his auto, which he had left standing on Center street Thursday afternoon, the machine refused to go. Investigation showed that the right forward tire was flattened against the ground, and a close inspection revealed the presence of a small nail firmly imbedded in the rubber. A new tire had to be adjusted in place of the punctured one. The machine was jacked up and Mr. Rust went at the job in workmanlike fashion. A crowd collected proffering for all hands to attend a company drill at the armory this evening. A watermelon supper will follow the drill. Hike, you.

Charles King of Magnolia killed a deer while on a hunt in the Calabasas canyon on Friday. The buck was a fine specimen and weighed, dressed, 165 pounds. Charles says he saw several other deer, but they were out of range. Quail are plentiful.
James McGee was in town a day or two ago renewing old acquaintances. He is shipping agent for the Armour packing company, and is kept busy these days working in the interests of his firm. "Jim" is the right man in the right place, and is in line for promotion. Good luck to him.
Prof. Frantz is repapering and otherwise beautifying the barber shop recently purchased from Rollo Davis. The Professor says he will have one of the niftiest shops in the county when he gets his new place fixed up. Next.
John Hartung is erecting a garage on his residence property on West Center street, and will in the near future install therein a $2400 automobile.
Ed Amerige writes from Portland, Me., that he has been spending the summer there. Ed sends regards to enquiring friends.
Joseph Helmsen finds himself possessed of a square mile of valuable property situate three miles from the flourishing town of Imperial. Many years ago he purchased the land from the State, making an initial payment of 25 cents per acre for it. Latterly it has acquired considerable value, and a government irrigation project which is near the property imparts to it additional interest. Some days ago a speculator came to town and made him a flattering offer, but Joseph will hold it for a raise.

Sunday was the warmest day in years, the thermometer going to 107. The heat was occasioned by electrical disturbances on the desert. Monday the weather moderated, and Tuesday it was again pleasant. We have the best climate on earth, but occasionally get a warm day in summer, and this comes over from Arizona.
Judge Hervy Gesford of Napa was a guest of Mrs. Kellogg and family at the West End some days ago. The two families have been acquainted for half a century, and Mrs. Kellogg knew the up-country democratic leader long before he knew a thing about politics. She tells us he is going to be California's next governor. Why, Mrs. Kellogg.
The Charles Smith forty-acre ranch, three miles east of town, has been sold to Mr. Bradford of Pasadena, for $13,000; the Miller twenty-acre alfalfa ranch at Garden Grove to Mr. Bowler of Pasadena for $8500; the Kasmaskie twenty-acre improved ranch, two miles east of town, to W.A.Harrison of Los Angeles, for $5000 Resh & Co. made the sales.
Miss Rachel Knapp was selected as attendant to the Carnival Queen by a voting contest at Garden Grove ending on Saturday evening. Other contestants for the honor were Misses Minnie Christenson, Genoa Edgerly, Ethel Swall, Myrtle Smith, MyrtleButler, Lizzie Brown, Dorothy Head, Amelia Givens, Delia Mills, Luetta Harris, Esther Hedstrom.
M.J.Ludington of Anaheim swore to a complaint before Justice of the Peace Smithwick charging his son Ira Ludington with insanity. Ira Ludington was discharged from the Iowa State Hospital at Cherokee, IA.on August 16, 1909, and came directly to his father's home at Anaheim. He had hardly arrived before his father saw very plainly that the young man had no business being at large His talk and actions were irrational

County Clerk Williams this week received from O. M. Glodaracena, of 628 Montgomery street, San Francisco the last will and testament of Domingo Bastanchury, deceased, who died at Fullerton last month. The will is sealed and so the contents are not made public, and it will be kept in possession of the county clerk until a petition is filed for probating it. The instrument comes to the county clerk's office according to the provisions of the law as found in Section 1298 of the Code of Civil Procedure, which provides that "every custodian of a will within thirty days of the receipt of information that the maker thereof is dead, must deliver the same to the Superior Court having jurisdiction of the estate or to the executor named therein. A failure to comply with the provisions of this section makes the person so failing responsible for all damages sustained by any one injured thereby."

Gus Schade thinks of returning to Kelvin, Ariz., this week, after a two-months' sojourn on the coast. Gus is interested in mining in the territory, and his friends wish him no worse luck than that he may strike it rich and make his fortune. Gus has several girls on the coast and two in the Hassayampa valley.
Mrs. Duke Paschall and Miss Ilene Adams went to Santa Ana on Saturday and returned on the afternoon train as far as Orange, where the conductor told them to change to the local accommodation train, as the through train did not make any stops. After the train had pulled out they discovered the local had also gone some time before. They were compelled to walk from Orange, and arrived at 9 o'clock, thoroughly exhausted as a result.
