Mrs. Henry Strodthoff is here from Arizona, spending the summer with her mother, Mrs. Fay. Capt. and Mrs. Williams spent several days in Los Angeles last week viewing the parades incident to the Elks' convention. Mrs. C. T. Thomas of Pasadena has been a guest of Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Herman. She left on Tuesday for a visit to the Seattle fair. W. D. Thompson and family are camping in Black Star canyon in the Santiago. Thompson expects to kill a deer and have a venison spread. Mayor Rust and family and Mr. and Mrs. Dwyer who did the Seattle exposition and Yellowstone Park, are home again after an enjoyable outing. Judge Shanley enjoyed a three-days' pasear with Elk friends in Los Angeles the past week. The Judge met a number of eastern friends and made it interesting for them while their visit lasted. Mr. and Mrs. Amberg are camping with friends near Modjeska's ranch in the Santiago. The former returns tomorrow, and the latter will remain for a stay of several weeks. Judge Howard and brother, J. W. Howard, are back from a trip to Seattle. Mrs. Arthur Porter and the children are sojourning at Newport Beach. Alex Vaughn is the busiest man at Olive. He has baled 700 tons of hay this season, and has 300 tons ahead of him. Alex was in town on Friday and said he will be ready to bale all the hay which offers this season. Before you go on your vacation be sure to buy your kodak films at Mullinix'. j22 Irving Quarton had his foot severely burned some days ago by stepping in the coals of a smoldering fire while playing near his home on Claudina street. The toes were burned so badly that the skin peeled off, and Irving was unable to get about for several days. He is well again and able to tag any kid in the street. Jones, auditor of the Los Alamitos sugar factory, and Walter Clark, manager of the factory were in town on Saturday, having driven over from the mill by way of Buena Park. Sugar making begins today, and a favorable season and large yield is looked for. Mr. Jones has been with the factory since its erection twelve years ago, and much of its success is due to his business-like management of its affairs. Mr. Clark is a son of J. Ross Clark, and is filling the position of manager for the first season’s run. He is a young man of bright intellectuality and associated as he is with the best men in the business cannot but make a success of his responsible position. Logourge attended the rural mail carriers' convention in Los Angeles on Tuesday. Cement foundations are being laid for the new school building for the Dominican Sisters on Palm street. Mrs. Schleuter returned from Los Angeles on Sunady evening after visiting with friends in that city for several days. Herman Dickel is back from an outing at Coronado, where he disported with the mermaids and had a good time. Fred Tuffree came in from Placentia on Tuesday morning to join the soldier boys on their trip to the Bay City encampment. Henry Schneider and family and Mr and Mrs. John Brunworth spent Sunday at Laguna Beach. The trip was made in Mr. Schneider's new auto. Wm. Crowther and other directors of the Anaheim Union and Santa Ana water companies went up the river on Monday to inspect development work. O. S. Davis has returned from Fresno, where he visited his brother. He goes next month to Berkeley with his family to reside. His son will enter the university. Mrs. Cox on Saturday at the Western Tea and Coffee store conducted a demonstration in the preparation of coffee and tea. Bailey, dated Savannah, Georgia, July 20, announces the birth of a baby girl to his wife that morning. Two aspirants are out for the place, Tom Talbert and Jacob Walton. That T. B. Talbert will be appointed by Gov. Gillett as successor to G. W. Moore as supervisor of the second district has been conceded for some time. J. W. Morrison, chairman of the Republican County Central Committee, said on Monday that the Governor had promised to appoint the man named by the Executive Committee of the Central Committee, and that the Executive Committee had recommended Talbert.
