CHANGES IN FACULTY The school trustees met on Tuesday evening and discussed informally the employment of teachers for the ensuing year. One new teacher will be employed at the grammar school, for which position several applicants are in the field. In the high school Prof. Walker will remain and the faculty will be as heretofore, with possibly two changes. Prof. Topel will continue as principal of the grammar school. A number of changes in teachers may be made, but the new list of instructors is not yet ready for the public. Y.M.C.A. ELECT OFFICERS The Y.M.C.A. held the annual meeting and supper on Tuesday evening at the rooms on South Los Angeles street. Thirty members were present, and the following officers were elected: Charles Eygrabroad president, Dr. W. H. Wickett vice president, Harry Armstrong secretary, J. A. Knapp treasurer. A fine supper was enjoyed and the members discussed plans for the erection of a Y.M.C.A. building in the near future. HIGH SCHOOL NOTES The senior class A.U.H.S. are preparing for their play, "The Schoolmistress," to be given at the opera-house the evening of June 9th. Frank G. Tyrrell of Los Angeles will deliver the lecture to the graduating class on Friday evening, June 11th, at the opera-house. E. A. Brodie, a cigar manufacturer of Los Angeles, was in town this week looking for a location for the CHURCH NOTICE "A New Start in Life" Dr. Miller's subject at the church next Sunday for service, 11 o'clock. The vice at 7:30 will be the series on life and eph. Subject, "The Dead with a Review of His cordial invitation is extinct." Services in St. Michael on Sunday at 10:30 a.m. Bishop Johnson will preach minister confirmation during service. Rev. Junyat at the morning service his subject, "The Ascension Saylour." Markel will preach sermon at Clair church next to veterans of that den Grove and surroundings. On the 30th he goes to preach a memorial service. Rev. E.W. Thornton, evangelist for the Christian of Southern California, series of lectures here Tuesday and returned to London today. He succeeded teachers' training classes more will be announced. Brodie, a cigar manufacturer of Los Angeles, was in town this week looking for a location for the establishment of a cigar manufacturing establishment, and expressed satisfaction with what he saw in Anaheim. He announces his purpose of coming here at an early date and going into business. Mr. Brodie is a union man, employs union labor, and turns out a cigar for a nickel and a dime which none may be ashamed. Care exercised in the purchase of tobacco and employment of none but the best of workmen tell the story. He has the promise of considerable trade, and will doubtless be successful here. The Orange county rural mail carriers' association held its regular monthly meeting at the home of Frank Eastman on Tuesday evening and officers for the ensuing year were elected as follows: Frank Eastman president, S. H. Jackman vice president, Miss Alta Lagourge treasurer, Mrs. S. H. Jackman secretary. Delegates were also elected to attend the state convention to be held in Los Angeles July 20-21-22. Mrs. Harding of Los Angeles, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fuhrberg, spent Sunday here with her parents. She expects shortly to depart for Seattle, accompanied by her daughter, on a three-months' visit to relatives and friends. Mrs. Falkenstein entertained friend at her home on Broadway on Tuesday afternoon. A feature of the afternoon was the game "500," at which Miss Winifred Melrose was awarded first prize, a handsome belt buckle. Refreshments were served and a delightful afternoon participated in. Ned Merritt returns to Mojave this week to look after Mr. Harriman's interests on the desert. Ned will have his private car before long, and he has more girls than any other kid in at her home on Broadway on Tuesday afternoon. Mr. Hansen is milking 250 cows and ships cream and milk to Los Angeles hotels. He owns 360 acres of fine pasture lands, and the other day sold twenty acres at $300 per acre. Kimball of the city dye and dry works, near the postoffice, has installed a new steam presser, which may be seen operating in the window of his establishment. Mr. Kimball is ready to do all kinds of cleaning and dying on short notice and in the highest style of the art. An inspection of his work will convince the most fastidious. Mrs. Lewis entertained the ladies' euchre club on Thursday afternoon at her new home on Broadway. A delightful afternoon was spent and prizes were awarded the following ladies: Mrs. Kuchel first, Miss Zeyn second, Mrs. F. A. Backs sr. consolation. Alfred and Oscar Heying have returned from San Francisco, where they have been attending the pharmacy department of U.C. The former graduated with high honors and was awarded the degree of pharmaceutical chemist. He also won the faculty scholarship, and was highly complimented by the dean of the school. The latter returns in the fall to complete his education in pharmacy. The two young gentlemen will on June 1st take over the Hatzfeld drugstore, negotiations for purchasing which have been recently completed. Mrs. Henry Knapke of Oxnard is here on a visit of several days, a guest of relatives. Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Smith gave a pleasant party at their home in Orangethorpe on Friday evening in honor of Miss Margaret Brown of Clinton, O., sister of Mrs. Smith. The evening was delightfully passed with games and social converse, and during the evening a delicious repast was discussed.
