Prothero have returned from a 171-mile auto trip to Beaumont, where they each own a tract of land. They passed through Pomona, Ontario, Upland, Redlands, San Bernardino, Riverside and other points of interest on the way. They report 500 acres set to apples, pears and other deciduous fruits at Beaumont. Our old friend Phid des Granges was a caller at this office on Monday. Phid leans to the opinion that the Placentia section is the best coun try on earth, and is skeptical concerning the report from Lindsey that an orange tract sold recently there at $4000 per acre. He looks for a crop of walnuts rather smaller than last year, and decries the practice of rushing into print early in the season with claims of bumper crops. He is not materially disposed to predict record-break crops, for he holds to the opinion that there are those who lie awake nights to take advantage of such reports, but in the present instance he says he has facts behind him, and that the crop will be shorter than last year. Chas. Masengill, who had charge of a similar exhibition here one year ago is conducting a moving-picture show in Kroeger's hall, where the latest pictures are presented every night, with continuous performances from 7.30 to 9.30 p.m., and change of program three times during each week. Special attention is given to the convenience of ladies and children who attend, and an interesting and enjoyable program is provided. Roblee of Riverside is secretary, will be held at the same place May 5th at 10 a.m. Harry Hanna was here from Los Angeles the last of the week visiting relatives and friends. Harry spent several days at Balboa, and takes strong ground against the Collins' plan to bottle up the harbor. He urges the people of the county to support Capt. Fries in his stand against the Collins plan, and says Senator Flint should be communicated with to the end that the people's harbor be protected and preserved. Harry's head is level, and we are with him. Flint will please take notice.
