Exhibit A is in the second car. In this especial emphasis is laid on the new variety of alfalfa. While this crop is undoubtedly a wonderful one, yet newer varieties show the possibility of increasing average yields three times those which are now obtained.
The various wheats, barleys and oats shown indicate in a graphic way the value of better farming methods and improved seeds.
As illustrating this it may be said that the average yield of wheat in California is fourteen bushels, while by using improved cultural methods and better seed, the experiment station is obtaining yields of sixty bushels per acre, and this at very small additional cost.
Exhibit B comprises the veterinary and dairy exhibits, in which is a large amount of illustrated material showing the tissues of domestic animals attacked by various diseases.
The tuberculosis exhibit is of especial importance. The effect of this disease upon the various organs of the animal is shown, and its possible transmission to human beings consuming either milk or meat products of these animals.
The exhibit of sanitary or so-called certified milk and the method of obtaining such milk, forms an important part of the exhibit. The general consumer of milk products sees by practical illustration the difference between the ordinary milk supply and one which is all that it should be.

PRE-COOLING PLANT
More than 200 men are rushing work
on the big ice plant which the Pacific
Fruit Express company is erecting at Colton.
Although the original appropriation
for the plant was $350,000, the plans
for it have grown until it is now expected to put at least half a million
dollars into it.
It will be ready for business about
July 1, after which the company will
be prepared to pre-cool 100 cars of fruit
or vegetables a day, twenty cars at a
time.
This will be the first big pre-cooling
plant to be erected in the country, the
present ones being experimental.

This will be the first big pre-cooling plant to be erected in the country, the present ones being experimental.
The pre-cooling of fruit and vegetables before shipment has been in vogue only the last year or two, but it has been found so successful that large sums now are being invested in pre-cooling devices. The Santa Fe refrigeration service is planning to erect such a plant at San Bernardino.
Pre-cooling, it is asserted, reduces the temperature of fruit or vegetables to a specified temperature, and draws off all air that may have become infected with decay germs, thereby making fruit keep better than if merely iced.
