She gave the rary board and librarian some readers regarding library work, etc. This week we have had 62 rebound and remarked and read circulation. Many of them have out of circulation so long they be as good as new to a good number of our readers. Our membership is increasing having added 55 new members the first week in January. Col. Mike Litten has departed for Texas to take up a situation as sales agent of a newly organized land company. Jack Hunter sold twenty acres of his place north of town to Roswell Bottom, recently arrived from South Dakota, for $16,000. The land is set to oranges and walnuts. Carl Robertson, a former well-known local contractor, is here superintending the erection of the new office building for the water company. Mr. Robertson is located in Los Angeles, and has erected a number of the largest buildings in that city. Capt. Barr was a guest of friends in Los Angeles and Pasadena the past week, returning on Monday evening. John Heinsen, a well-known Chicago business man, spent the week in town, accompanied by his family, and were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Fulde. Jim Pickering loaned his umbrella the other day to a man who promised to return it at noon. The man Capt. Barr was a guest of friends in Los Angeles and Pasadena the past week, returning on Monday evening. John Heinsen, a well-known Chicago business man, spent the week in town, accompanied by his family, and were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Fulde. Jim Pickering loaned his umbrella the other day to a man who promised to return it at noon. The man failed to return it, claiming that while he said he would return it at noon, he did not specify the day. If Harriman finds this out, Jim will get a Brownie. Mrs. Nance of Los Angeles, aged 69 years, died in that city on Friday. Deceased was the mother of George Nance of this city. Station Agent Mason at Loara reports business flourishing. Mr. Mason recently had a call from the division superintendents, who found affairs of the company in good shape. Wm. F. Stroschelm, a well-known walnut grower of San Juan, was in town this week with a view to purchasing a tract of land here, with the intention of improving it. Mr. Stroschelm is a leader in the movement for including all walnut growers in the newly formed association, and states growers in his section are signing for membership in the organization. He predicts a good crop of nuts the coming season, and with orchardists thoroughly co-operating looks for good prices and prosperity. His ten acre grove at San Juan is one of the best in that locality, and promises better returns than for many years past.
