MOVING FOR A LARGER CITY
WEST ANAHEIM GROCER WANTS HIS PROPERTY INCLUDED
City Trustees Will Take Matter Up With Chamber of Commerce—New Street North of Roger Tract Christened Crone Avenue—Salary Raised
Enlarging the city limits was up for discussion at the meeting of the city trustees on Wednesday evening, and it received favorable consideration. The matter was brought up by a communication submitted by Chas. Lange, a West Anaheim grocer, who desires expansion for his business by being permitted to trade with people inside the city limits, and which he cannot at present do without paying what he terms a prohibitive license. Lange asked council to include his property at the West End in the city limits, and so well did his case appeal to the trustees that a committee consisting of Fiscus, Stock and Gates was appointed to confer with the chamber of commerce in reference to the project of enlarging the city limits. At present the limits are 1½ miles square. Voters residing north, east and south of town proceed to West Anaheim to cast their vote, those from the east side traversing the entire length of the municipal limits in order to reach their voting precinct. At different times in the past efforts have been made to enlarge the limits, but nothing came of them.
city will furnish water for it and electric light.
Carl Leonardt wrote saying would immediately take up the ter of leak in the city tank.
City Attorney Melrose asked and was given a three-month leave of absence, in order to attend the meeting of the legislature.
C. Spencer was appointed city torney to act during his absence.

Voters residing north, east and south of town proceed to West Anaheim to cast their vote, those from the east side traversing the entire length of the municipal limits in order to reach their voting precinct. At different times in the past efforts have been made to enlarge the limits, but nothing came of them. It is believed if Mr. Lange will put his shoulder to the wheel of progress the limits will be extended not only to let him come in, but a whole lot of others as well.
Crone avenue was the name given the newly opened street running north of the Roger tract, from Walnut street to the western city limits. The name was bestowed in honor of Col. Crone of the folding-crate company, who resides on the newly-opened thoroughfare.
Building permits were ordered granted as follows:
Dr. Wm. Freeman, $2000 residence on East Broadway.
Mrs. Rosa Sesma, $900 residence on Melrose street.
Bert Newbauer, $1500 residence on East Broadway.
A letter was read from Emil B. Dreyfus relating to the opening of an alley south of Center street. Referred to City Attorney.
Southern Pacific company presented a deed for a strip of land for widening South Los Angeles street. Accepted.
W. P. Webb and others petitioned for the piping of the water company's open cement ditch on East street between Sycamore and Santa Ana streets. Referred to the water company.
Dr. Wickett appeared before the board and asked that the city sign for paving Los Angeles street in front of the public library. The library trustees were authorized to sign for the library lot.
F. C. Spencer addressed the board, saying the new public library had been completed, and that it would cost $3250 to furnish it and provide fixtures. He asked in behalf of the library trustees that the city install free of charge four or

However, in order that company may have ample fund which to handle this $10,000 the board of directors has agreed the sale of an additional shares at 50c. There are outside people figuring on the entire lot and if any of the heim public desire any of these they will have to make promptation for the same.

F. C. Spencer addressed the board, saying the new public library had been completed, and that it would cost $3250 to furnish it and provide fixtures. He asked in behalf of the library trustees that the city install free of charge four or five hundred dollars worth of electric light fixtures. Inasmuch as the board could not see its way clearly to do this, it was suggested to Spencer that he solicit loans of $25 from twenty or more citizens, to be repaid without interest in a year. A number present volunteered such loans.
Fiscus of the special committee appointed to examine and report upon the request of Gene Adams and Phil German, employees of the power-house for a $10 raise in salary, reported, in the case of the former, recommending a raise from $80 to $85 per month. In the latter case he recommended that German's request go over for future consideration.
Attorney Melrose reported upon the protest of Mrs. Turk to the opening of Lemon street through to Broad street, that the map of the property through which the street was sought to be opened was filed by parties not owners of the tract, and meantime the opening of the street would have to be deferred. The matter was referred to the public improvements committee to investigate the propriety of opening Lemon, Palm and Citron streets through the tract.
Further time was granted the committee appointed on the offer of J. O. Royer to erect a public drinking fountain on Walnut street, if the
