Don Juan de la Guerra was a visitor in town from Yorba on Tuesday. Clarence Wilson is back from Stanford for the holidays. David Yorba was in town from up the river on Saturday afternoon. Arthur Lewis and family have moved into their new residence on Broadway. Gus Strodthoff was in town from Los Alamitos on Monday purchasing Christmas presents. Major Upham was in from Olive the first of the week mingling with the throng. Ed Raine came in from the South Country on Monday afternoon to see what a live town looked like. Mr. and Mrs. Nagel and little son Kenneth attended the theater in Los Angeles some evenings ago. Miss Myrtle Ramage of Alameda is spending the holidays with her aunt, Mrs. I. R. Williams, on her ranch at Buena Park. Milbird Wray is here from Berkeley to spend the holidays with his uncle, A. T. Vinacke of the high school. Mr. and Mrs. Gustav Heimann and Miss Poldie Heimann of Los Angeles were guests of friends in town on Sunday. C. H. Kluckhohn of Le Mars, Iowa, is here on a visit to Rev. C. F. Kuhnle. He will remain over the holidays. Frank Tausch, Herman Schindler, Carl Pressel and Max Horwitz were theater-goers at a Los Angeles performance some evenings ago. Maas of Pasadena is a guest of Rev. C. F. Kuhnle. Rev. Maas has purchased 33 acres west of town and will move his family here in the spring and take up his residence. The Christmas entertainment at the Christian church drew a large audience to that edifice last evening. A Christmas tree was the center of interest, and many appropriate gifts were distributed to old and young. Albert Williams of Billings, Mon., is in town on a visit to V. U. Simpson. Mr. Williams reports cold weather at his home, and much snow encountered on his journey through Utah and Nevada. He will remain several weeks. Edward C. Schlueter, an experienced meat cutter, has arrived from Los Angeles and taken a position at the City Market. With Billy Cooper he will see that patrons of this popular market are served with the choicest cuts of beef, mutton and pork. N. Urbanus, an experienced painter and decorator, has arrived from Redlands and will make this city his permanent residence. Mr. Urbanus will practice his profession here, and will do all work in the highest style of the art. See his advertisement in another column. R. Krastle has purchased twenty-five acres of land extending southerly from the corner of Los Angeles and South streets, and will make extensive improvements. People have been in town from the entire countryside during the week, coming from San Juan, Huntington Beach, Tustin and Olive, as well as from the many nearby points. Business has been good and merchants and customers alike are happy. Miss Alice Grimshaw entertained about twenty-five young ladies at a kitchen shower in honor of Miss Ruth Dutton on last Saturday afternoon. The happy bride-elect was the recipient of many handsome as well as useful presents. Miss Dutton yesterday became the bride of Will McLauchlin. F. P. Jayne returned from Imperial some days ago, bringing another large order for onion crates. The folding-crate company has orders ahead for 60,000 crates and will be engaged for several months in turning them out. The company was this week compelled to decline an order for two carloads of shucks, it being unable to manufacture them, owing to the rush. New machinery is being installed with a view to taking care of all future orders. NEW WALNUT ASSOCIATIONS Before the time arrives for fixing prices for the 1909 walnut crop it is more than likely that three more walnut associations will be formed in Orange county. At the present time there is but one in this county south of the Santa Ana River, it being the Santa Ana Valley Walnut Growers' Association, with headquarters in Santa Ana. It is proposed to form associations with headquarters in Orange, Tustin and San Juan Capistrano. Within a short time Frank E. Kellogg of Santa Barbara, representing the Executive Committee of all the walnut associations in the state, will arrive to help organize the growers of those three districts. By forming these it is expected the cooperative work in this county will be greatly increased and the price of nuts kept at a point where outside buyers cannot hurt them. FIRE AT OLIVE The residence of Alex Vaughn at Olive narrowly escaped destruction by fire on Friday, during the absence of Mr. Vaughn at the reservoir being constructed near that town. His little two-year-old son Jimmy started to amuse himself by thrusting pieces of paper into a stove, when the curtain became ignited and in a short time a blaze which was too much for Jimmy obtained headway. The lad called for help, and but for the opportunity arrival of Mr. Meyer, who lives across the way, the building would have been destroyed. A hole was burned through the floor and the room was badly burned before the flames were extinguished. The loss is estimated at $50. his reputation as a brewer far and wide.
