He has planted eight acres to cabbage which are looking well and promise a good crop. Oerter of Chaska, Minn., is in town and may locate and go into business. He has taken up a temporary residence, with his family, in San Diego, but will in all likelihood select this section for his future abiding place. J. B. Rea made a business trip to Escondido the past week. He reports seeing the finest lemon grove in that valley that he has yet seen in California. Mr. Rea lived many years in San Diego and retains a very friendly feeling for all portions of that county. John C. Austin was here from Los Angeles on Saturday and as architect for the public library accepted the building subject to a few minor changes. One of the rooms was ordered retinted, and a number of nailholes which had been left unputted were ordered properly treated with that substance. The library was accepted by the library board on Monday evening. Clyde Bishop and Cris McNeil were over from Santa Ana a few days ago, looking up a lost horse belonging to the latter gentleman. The animal was taken up estray at Olive two months ago, advertised and sold for $20. Mr. McNeil saw the horse at Santa Ana and through Mr. Bishop with that substance. Assemblyman Melrose leaves next week for Sacramento to attend the approaching session of the legislature He has appointed Ed Vegely of Santa Ana as his clerk, and Mr. Vegely will go north with him. Mr. Melrose will after adjournment of the legislature in March depart for a three-months' tour of Europe. He will be accompanied on his tour, which will begin in May, by his daughter, Miss Winifred Melrose. Miss Nettle Hansen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hansen, was married to Mr. Joseph F. Witt of Orange on Thursday, December 17th, at 2 p.m., at the home of the bride's grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J. Seeman, on Kroeger street, Rev. J. Kraeber officiating. Only near relatives were present. The bride wore a blue broadcloth tailor-made traveling suit with hat to match. After refreshments were served the couple left for San Diego and other points of interest on a two weeks' honeymoon and will in future reside at Orange. A 250-barrel tank on the Loftus lease caught alight and the oil and tank were saved by perforating the tank at the bottom and running the oil out before any damage to speak of was done. The boiler house at the Hall lease also caught fire but the blaze was extinguished before it made much headway. Good work was done by the fire fighters, who kept the flames from spreading to the large storage tanks.
