SCHOOL OF AGRICULTURE
Beginning January next the university will offer instruction in agriculture to boys of high school age and attainments. A so-called agricultural high school will open at Davis on the university farm and any boy who is at least fifteen years of age and has completed the eighth grade of the grammar school will be admitted. If he holds a certificate of graduation he will be admitted without examination; if not, his examination will include English, arithmetic, United States history and geography, covering the usual work done in the grammar schools.
The course of study in an agricultural high school is one of intense interest to any boy who likes country life, or who is fond of plants or animals or of anything else in nature. He is surprised to know that

The law provides that in any township polling 1000 votes or over the salary of the justice of the peace shall be $50. At the general election Orange township including West Orange, Olive, El Modena and Yorba, polled 1045 votes. The supervisors referred the matter to District Attorney Davis, who has it under consideration.

Your dairy cows are either making money for you or eating their heads off. Figure it out. Would it not pay to use less of high cost fodders and more sugar beet pulp at the low price of 50 cents per ton. And don't wait too long before arranging to silo some of it for use after the Los Alamitos factory closes down.

NO QUORUM
Only 24 members of Company E were present at the armory Thursday evening when a captain was to have been elected. Major Vestal was present from Santa Ana to conduct the election, but there being no quorum, no election was held.
Major Vestal reported the lack of a quorum to headquarters and an order will be issued calling another election in the near future.
It is said in company circles that the penalty for a second failure to elect a captain means a muster out. The company has 58 members, and an effort will be made to have a full attendance at the next attempt to chose a presiding officer.
CALIFORNIA EARTHQUAKE
The report of the California state earthquake investigation commission has just been issued by the Carnegie institution of Washington. The commission is composed of the following scientists: Profs. A. Lawson, chairman; J. C. Brannan Charles Burckhalter, W. W. Campbell George Davidson, G. K. Gilbert A. O. Lenschner, secretary, and F. Reid.
The work is published in two volumes and an atlas. The first volume of 451 pages and 146 plates in two separate parts contains the report of the commission on the California earthquake of April, 1901. The report will be sent from the Carnegie institution at Washington for $17, which includes the two volumes and an atlas. Neither of the volumes nor the atlas will be sold.
