CITY COUNCIL The Board of City Trustees met in regular session on Thursday evening; present Trustees Gates, Stock, Kroeger and Fiscus. Absent, Trustee Rust. In the absence of Mayor Rust Trustee Gates was elected president pro tem. The finance committee audited bills to the amount of $7.90. Warrants were ordered drawn in payment of the same. The committee having in charge the moving of the sprinkler crane at the corner of Los Angeles street and Broadway were given further time. The widening and straightening out of Helena and other streets on the south side was referred to the committee of public improvements. The superintendent of streets was instructed to repair the drain pipes at the corner of Center and Lemon streets. Manager Petty of the Kroeger theater was granted permission to erect an advertising sign at the entrance to his moving picture show. Vigorous complaint was made of unearthly noises made by some of the motor cycles in town. The violation of the speed limit by autoists also came in for condemnation. Arrests in the near future will probably be made. The guilty ones would do well to watch out. THE CLOCKS O' LONDON If all the public clocks of London behaved as well as Big Ben there would be little need for the efforts of the British science guild to bring about synchronization. Big Ben some times stops, but when it goes it keeps excellent time. During the last year, it appears, its maximum error did not exceed three seconds. The exemplary record is given in the guild's NOTICE Notice is hereby given hearing of the Report ofers on the petition of Spreng et. al. of Anaheim lerton Road Districts, filed 1908, praying that the described lines be declared Road is set for Tuesday, Oct 1908, at 11 A.M. at the Office of Supervisors of Ordy at the Court House. Big Ben some times stops, but when it goes it keeps excellent time. During the last year, it appears, its maximum error did not exceed three seconds. The exemplary record is given in the guild's report. In regard to London it is proposed, among other things, (1) to approach the postmaster general, to ask that in the case of postoffices the time signals sent to the offices should actually automatically set at least one of the clocks in each public office to standard time, and not merely indicate standard time and depend upon subsequent hand correction of the clocks, as at present; (2) to form a deputation to the L. C. C. to ask them to have all public clocks under them, or in any way under their influence, synchronized in the same way. In addition, the local government board is to be asked to take steps to secure the passing of a bylaw calling upon persons exhibiting clocks publicly to have such clocks synchronized, or, failing this, for such clocks to be done away with.—London News. Rev. Father Dubbel was a visitor in Los Angeles on Monday. Judge Egan of San Juan was an over-Sunday visitor with friends in town. Mr. Banker reports that during the high wind of Sunday afternoon a large umbrella tree, 35 years old and 12 inches in diameter, was uprooted and blown over on his ranch east of town. He cut the tree up for firewood. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Backs and Mrs. Mathewson returned on Sunday evening from a week's outing at Baynham's camp at the ease of Old Baldy. Tim Carroll was a business visitor in Los Angeles the first of the week.
