FOR A CLEANER CITY
The Board of Health Starts Crusade Against Uncleanliness
The Board of City Trustees met in regular session on Thursday evening; present Trustees Rust, Gates, Kroeger, Stock and Fiscus.
Dr. Beebe of the Board of Health appeared before the council and urged the passage of an ordinance providing for the installation of modern and sanitary closets in this city, within the area bounded by Palm and Olive streets, Broadway and Adele streets. He also suggested that the city provide means for the disposal of garbage. Both matters are of utmost importance to our rapidly growing city. It is intended to place the town upon a more sanitary basis and the board will doubtless pass an ordinance regulating the same.

Delinquents collected: For water, $53.66; license, $275; light, $86.50.

Further time was granted to the committee having in charge the widening of West Center street.
The Petrolific paving company addressed a communication relative to its new paving process, claiming it to be the best ever. The cost is four cents per square foot. A committee will doubtless look into the merits of the new process. It was suggested that the chamber of commerce also investigate the matter.
Building permits were granted as follows: J. H. Crook to construct a dwelling on Walnut street; estimated cost $4500.
J. Resh to construct dwelling on Olive street; cost $800.
August Backs to construct dwelling on Claudina street; cost $1000.
John·Regear to construct dwelling on West Broadway; cost $1600.
Mr. Hartfield made a proposition to install a clock in the city hall, provided he be permitted to place his name and calling conspicuously upon the same. Some of the members thought this action a sort of a trust, but after discussion Hartfield's offer was accepted. Now it is up to the other jewelers to place a clock in the city hall tower.
Mrs. C. Langenberger was granted permission to cut down some trees on Sycamore street, the same being effected with scale.

It was ordered that a donation of $30 be made toward the defraying of the expense of a corner stone, the same to be placed with appropriate ceremonies in the new Carnegie library building now in course of erection at Los Angeles and Broadway streets.
Herman Stern appeared before the council and wanted to ascertain why streets in the Rothaermel tract have not been graded and oiled. He recently purchased a home in the new tract, but avers the streets are not according to contract. He wanted to know on what conditions the tract was accepted by the city, and if there was not a grading and oiling of streets clause in the acceptance of the same by the city. The matter was referred to the city clerk, who will communicate with the owner of the tract and find out about it.
