VOLUME XXXVIII ANAHEW JULIUS FINDS HIS MONEY Buried It During Flurry and Thought It Was Lost. Julius Lindorf buried $300 during the flurry last winter, placing the treasure in a glass jar and interring it in a hole in a chicken house in the rear of his abode on Oak street, west of Clementina. The money consisted of $160 in $20 gold pieces and $140 in silver dollars. He thought the money would be more secure in the hole than in a bank. While making the excavation he was asked by an associate what he was doing. He replied that he was preparing to set a trap for a gopher. Some time thereafter he went to see if the money was there. Digging it up, he found it intact, and replaced it carefully, covering it over with earth. A week ago he again desired to know if his wealth was intact, but failed to dig deep enough and failed to find it. In great distress he appealed to Marshal Steadman, to whom he told his story, offering him $100 if he would recover it. Julius accused his associate of taking it, but after Steadman had interrogated the man, he was satisfied PITTSBURG MAN A F Smiles When His Team Wins When It Loses. Julius accused his associate of taking it, but after Steadman had interrogated the man, he was satisfied he had not taken it. "Where did you bury the money?" asked Steadman. Lindorf designated the place of deposit, and Steadman procured a shovel and with Constable Litten and others as interested spectators, began excavations. He soon brought up a piece of broken glass. In the dirt was a silver dollar. "There's one dollar, anyhow," he said, "even if we never find any more." The next shovelful brought up the silver, and in a paper package eight shining double eagles popped out, saying, "Here I am." The recovered money was taken and placed in bank. Then Lindorf rewarded Steadman and Litten with a twenty apiece. He says he lost $40 at Yorba some years ago by burying it, but Steadman is of the opinion that the money is still in the hole.
