Accidentally Killed
Edward Waltemeyer of this city, while hunting deer in Santa Monica canyon on Monday afternoon, was accidentally shot and killed. He was in the canyon with a party of friends on a vacation. While looking for deer, about 15 miles distant from Santa Monica, he came suddenly upon a rattlesnake. He slipped and fell in his attempt to get away from the reptile, and his rifle was discharged. The bullet entered the right leg, severing an artery. Two companions immediately ran for assistance, but when they returned Waltemeyer was so weak from loss of blood that he expired shortly after.
The young man leaves a wife and two children. He has been a resident of this city for some time past, engaged in the restaurant business, and his sudden death causes universal regret.
The body was taken to Santa Monica, where funeral services will be held today.
A New Way to Save
The German-American Bank has
A New Way to Save
The German-American Bank has an announcement in our advertising columns this morning, to which the attention of our readers is directed. It refers to a new bank money order and certified check, and draws interest at the rate of 4 per cent.
If you want to have your bank account always in hand and draw interest, deposit it in the only bank in this city that will give you a self-identifying Bank Money Order and Savings Certificate as shown on another page. Supposing you hide in the house $5 or $10 or $100 in money. At the end of a year or three years you may still have the money, if it has not been lost, stolen or destroyed, but it has earned nothing! Suppose you put it away in a form of a Savings Certificate. As long as you keep the Certificate it is earning money for you and every three months a new figure is added to the amount. You don't have to go to the bank to get your interest posted. It's all down on the face of the certificate in advance.
If you are short of ready money you don't have to go to the bank with your book to get more, but you pay the grocer, the butcher, the druggist, or any business man, by simply signing your name on the Certificate and he can deposit it the same as a check. If it is lost, stolen or destroyed, come to the bank and stop payment.
AN AGENT OF THRIFT.
Every time you are paid your wages or any money buy a certificate and put it away. All great fortunes of the present day are built on savings. "Do not despise the day of small things." Keep within your income. Buy a savings certificate
AN AGENT OF THRIFT.
Every time you are paid your wages or any money buy a certificate and put it away. All great fortunes of the present day are built on savings. "Do not despise the day of small things." Keep within your income. Buy a savings certificate regularly as you receive your money and you will acquire a fortune, as thrift is the secret of wealth.
Our Savings Certificates are the best form of placing your savings, no matter what may be your calling or your income, as they make you keep on saving.
IT'S A MONEY ORDER.
If you want to send money away and make its delivery sure, you have to buy a money order of some kind and pay the postal department, the express company or the bank for the order. This may seem a small expense, but it is not small when you figure how needless the expense is. Even if you have a checking account the check is liable to a charge at the receiver's bank for discount. This expense is avoided if you send a Bank Money Order and Savings Certificate, which costs you nothing and is a certified check on its face. The person to whom it is sent may cash it by his endorsement anywhere.
Further information regarding this new form of check and money-saver will be furnished on application to the German-American bank.

The municipal area covers territory one and a half miles square, the same probably the smallest city limits in Southern California. The three other incorporated towns in Orange county—Santa Ana, Orange and Fullerton—each have largely superior territorial extent than this city. Fullerton’s area is 18 square miles, being larger than the combined area of Anaheim, Santa Ana and Orange.
Returned from the Island
Y. M. C. A. boys, accompanied by nine leaders and S. W. Douglas, county secretary of the association, returned on Saturday evening from Camp Wilson, Catalina Island, after a two-weeks’ outing. The party went to the island for their annual outing and report an enjoyable trip. They occupied tents in a picturesque spot near the beach, and were well provisioned and had lots of fun. Among those attending to the boys’ welfare were:
S. W. Douglas, general manager; E. J. Ruenitz, physical director; W. H. Wickett, medical examiner; C. M. Melick, Garden Grove; C. T. Youngken, Los Angeles; A. F. Ballbach, Pasadena; Frank Amis, Olinda; Harold Pellegrin, Anaheim; and Owen Murray, Pasadena.
You Must Register
Voters of the county who have not yet registered, have but little over a month to attend to this duty, if they wish to vote at the November election. Everybody must register, and Sept. 23 is the last day. It will not take any longer to register one day than another, and by registering before the closing days the voters can save the County Clerk time and trouble in closing up the registration.

About half the voters have registered, the work practically being completed in Santa Ana, Orange, Anaheim, Fullerton and Newport Beach.
The outside precincts are a little slow in this respect, and registration clerks will have to get busy.
Transfers may be made up to and including October 8.
Following is a list of registration clerks:
C. R. Sumner, Loara; J. S. Hatfield, Bay City; Andrew Ipsen, Placentia; F. E. Upham, Olive; E. R. Amerige, Fullerton; O. R. Fuller, Fullerton; P. A. Schumacher, Fullerton; A. S. Bradford, Placentia; J. H. Whitaker, Buena Park; Hugh La Rue, Cypress; Maurice Ray, Olinda; J. F. Velasco, Yorba; Henry Meiser. Orangethorpe; F. R. Aldrich, La Habra; Joseph Helmsen, Anaheim; E. B.
