A disciple of Isaac Walton revered from San Diego county reports Mateo creek, on the Santa Marina ranch, as being alive with trout being 18 inches long. Richard owner of the ranch, has for years exhibited fishing on his domain, fish have increased in number there are now said to be thousands the creek. Despite O'Neill's sportsmen are said to have rare sport in landing trout from crystal waters. Foragers who plate fishing expeditions to Santa Ana Creek should beware of O'Neill as well as the speed limit.
James S. Rice was in town from tin on Monday, in company of Reid, a wholesale shoe manufacturer who recently purchased an orchard at Tustin. Mr. Rice is time democrat, but bolted both the Nebraskan's campaign is considering the formation "Sunny Jim" club over in his the county.
Sabine Oefinger, widow of M. Oefinger, deceased, has filed a case in the Superior court for judgment aside a certain tract consisting twenty acres of land near Anahole belonging to the estate of M. Oefinger as a homestead for her.

J. D. Gibbs of Los Angeles, representing a wholesale house of that city,

Harold Moore, traveling plutocrat of
the Santa Fe, was in town the first of
the week skipping the tra-la-loo.
"What makes you so fat?" inquired
the reporter, sticking his finger in Mr.
Moore's embonpoint. "I'm living on Walter Parker's pink pills for poor people," he replied. Mr. Moore is author of that beautiful ballad, "Una Gallina con pate de lenier." Call again, Harold.
Prof. Topel, now a resident of Santa Ana, has been engaged as principal of the grammar school, succeeding Prof. Waldorf, who goes to Berkeley for a post-graduate's course. Prof. Topel is a teacher of 15 years' experience, and some years ago taught in Hawaii. He did not teach last year, and occupied a responsible position with a telephone company at Santa Ana.
Capt. Williams escorted Mr. Simpson and family to San Juan hot springs in his auto some days ago. Mr. Rea accompanied them and returned with the Captain in the afternoon. The odometer registered 90 miles. Arriving at the springs they found the Baker boys, brothers of Mrs. Simpson, encamped there. A fine dinner of trout and rabbit was enjoyed.

James Wilkie came in from the oil wells on Saturday afternoon. Mr. Wilkie is engaged in pumping oil, his hours being from midnight to noon. He reports much activity on the several leases, there being upward of 200 wells in the district and many boring. The output is larger at present than at any time in the history of the field.
T. M. and R. D. Gillison, sons of Andrew Gillison of Lancashire, Eng., and brothers of Mrs. F. J. Bestandig of Los Alamitos, have arrived at the latter place from England and intend to reside in their native state, California. They report all well and prosperous at home and talking of being out here before this time next year.
The Pomona cannery is putting up blackberries and next week the apricot season begins. About 250 tons of this fruit have been contracted for and more will be bought. The total output will be about 300,000 cans. A million and a half cans of peaches will also be packed, and later, as many cans of tomatoes.
Those who attended the republican rally at Santa Ana Saturday evening were Richard Melrose, J. W. Duckworth, W. H. Spake, J. S. Howard, F. C. Spencer, O. P. Litten, J. H. Enearl and O. T. Callor.
Tom Seine, one of the best known drillers at the Santa Fe oil wells at Olinda, has been promoted to the responsible position of foreman of the lease. Tom is an expert in his profession and is one of the most popular men on the lease.
Miss Marle Kalser departed Tuesday evening for Switzerland, where she will visit her former home which she has not seen in a number of years. She will be absent several months.
A. J. Snodgrass piloted a jolly party of young ladies and gentlemen to Bay City on Sunday, where a delightful outing was enjoyed. The afternoon

George Schneider, charged with embezzling the sum of three hundred dollars from the funds of the Court Orange Belt, I.O.O.F., Fullerton, on Monday pleaded guilty and was placed in care of Sheriff Lacy as probation officer for the period of five years. Judge West gave the man some fatherly advice and District Attorney Davis seemed to think the ends of justice would be well served by not sending Schneider to the penitentiary and he was therefore placed in charge of Sheriff Lacy with instructions to report at stated intervals as to his conduct and the manner in which he spends his money. Schneider's wife was in court with him and stood by him bravely to the end. Schneider

The Turner singing section picnicked in Santiago canyon on Sunday and had an enjoyable outing. In the party were 32, including a number of ladies. Songs were sung at the county park, and later the members climbed the tallest peak in the range and awoke the echoes with their melody. A bountiful basket lunch was served at noon, and later in the afternoon coffee and cakes were passed around. The party returned in the evening at 7. The canyon is truly a lovely spot, and the outing was one long to be remembered.
Fred Weisel piloted John and Robert Steinke and their families on an auto trip to Pomona and Lordsburg on Sunday.
Roman Wisser returned on Monday evening from a fortnight's sojourn at San Juan springs.
E.J. Byrne left on Tuesday evening for a two months' visit to Chicago New York and other points east.
Mr. and Mrs. Worth Welch of Los Angeles were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Spake.
