City Trustees The city council met in regular session on Thursday evening. Present, Trustees Rust, Gates, Kroeger, Stock and Fiscus. The Marshal reported the following collections: For water $573.91, license $489.50, light $604.55; total $1667.96. Delinquents collected: Water $68.65, license $6.50, light $53.90; total $129.05. Delinquents reported: Water $100.25, license $9.50; light $105.65; total $215.40. The Recorder reported six cases in court during the month and fines collected amounting to $20, two dollars in excess of fees. The Treasurer reported a balance in the treasury on June 10 of $10,-893.86. Superintendent of streets reported that Palm street had been oiled, water connections made, city stables moved to new home, and that all-day service at power-house started June first. Finance committee reported auditing bills to the amount of $2005.03 and warrants were ordered drawn in payment of same. Ordinance committee presented Resolution of Intention No. 74, relating to the widening of West Broadway. Notice of the public work will be found in another column of this issue. City Attorney Melrose reported having received favorable reply from Southern Pacific officials in regard to the sidewalking of South Los Angeles street. The applications were laid over for future consideration. It is said the "spare" license will be held in reserve for an up to date hostelry, should one be launched here in the near future, as it is confidently expected such will be the case. The street arc asked for on East Broadway will be installed as soon as practicable. Communication from R. C. Spoerl in regard to extension of Oak street was referred to the city attorney. City Attorney Melrose reported that all property owners on the line of the projected extension of Oak street, from Lemon to Los Angeles streets, have signified their willingness to give deeds for same. He was instructed to accept same in behalf of the city, and to proceed with the proposed extension. Samuel Kraemer was granted permission to cut back the sidewalk for a driveway in front of his new building on Center street for a distance of two feet. A numerously signed petition asking for the use of the bandstand for public speaking was received and the same was denied. A delegation of citizens from the merchants' association appeared before the council asking for an extension of the street sprinkling area. After a lengthy discussion the matter was tabled for the present.
