White Fly Parasite Some years ago the Department of Agriculture published a great deal of information upon the Aleyrodes citri, which had become a great pest in the Florida orange groves. With the life habits and methods of control were inquiries as to the origin of the white fly and how it became colonized in Florida. The conclusion was that it was introduced upon Chinese orange trees, the place where the fly first appeared having received a consignment of these trees through New York. The state commissioner's office recently made a discovery that confirms the department at Washington's conclusion as to the home of the white fly. A few days ago E. K. Carnes, of the insectary division, was mounting specimens of insects received from George Compere from various parts of the world. They had been sealed up for years and were being examined for classification. In one lot of material from Japan he found every citrus leaf in the parcel covered with Aleyrodes The effect of Scott's Emulsion on the pale children is magical. The Proud Prince Buffalo Bill, who says that with hard work a man should live to be a centenarian, talked at a reunion of Kansas cavalrymen about straight shooting. "It is hard work to learn to be a good shot," he said. "We Americans are better shots than most. A French prince visited me on my ranch once," and we went out after birds. "I came back with a full bag, but when I asked the prince what he had killed, he said proudly: "'Of ze bairds, none; zey are too difficile; but, of ze vild cows and calves, I 'ave nine ovair ze 'ill.''" A Martinet "A martinet," said general F. D. Grant at a memorial day banquet, "is generally a fool. "They tell a story of a martinet of the civil war, a captain. He got orders from headquarters one day that his men were to change their undershirts. "But captain, said a sergeant, to whom this order was communicated, 'the men have only one undershirt each.'" "The captain frowned. Then he said: "'No matter. Military commands must be obeyed. Let them change undershirts with one another.'" "A big theater—at least for the sort of work I produce—is bad." he said. "For subtle acting and a subtle play a small stage and a small theater are preferable. "Even big audiences have their drawbacks. Don't indeed, all big things have their drawbacks? Wouldn't we all rather be small than big? "On one of your surface trains the other day a very big, fat woman stood clinging to a strap. At last a thin young man rose and said in a loud voice: "'I will be one of four to give this lady a seat.'" Dr. Wu's Turkish Bath Wu. Ting Fang, the Chinese minister, took his first Turkish bath recently. Steaming, baking, electrifying and massaging he endured, without protest. But when, wearing only a towel he came up from a ducking in the plunge to find a camera aimed at him he protested. "No," he cried, waving his arm, "it is not my wish." The sharp "bang" of the flashlight overruled his objection. His imperial highness dived back into the plunge a moment too late. After his bath Wu said: It was fine—exquisite--all but the camera."
