Sensational Divorce Suit
Declaring that her husband's adopted children are half negroes and that through their machinations she and her husband were caused to separate, charging her husband with extreme cruelty. Mrs. Jennie E. Clopton of Long Beach has asked the Superior Court of this county for a restraining order to keep her husband, Col. Hoggatt Clopton and his adopted children, Pearle and Hugh, from disposing of any of their real estate. Recently Col. Clopton, who is reputed to be wealthy, deeded several valuable pieces of real estate to his adopted children. Mrs. Clopton holds an ante-nuptial agreement, under which she is to get a quarter of the colonel's estate at his death, and she fears that there will be nothing left when he dies. Hence the desire for a restraining order. Attorney Victor Montgomery has filed a demurrier to the amended complaint, in which he attacks the suit on the ground that the wife has no right to sue to recover the separate property of her husband, and that the ante-nuptial rights will not ripen into cause of action until the colonel's death. The amended complaint is a resume of many disagreeable occurrences in the Clopton family in the last two or three years. Mrs. Clopton declares that the two adopted children, whom she detested on account of the negro blood, started out to break up the family, and used many means to accomplish that end. Mrs. Clopton married Colt Clopton in Santa Ana.

ORANGE SOLID FOR TAFT
Primaries Called for May 5, and Resolution Unanimously Adopted Favoring the War Secretary — Railroad Machine Appears
The republican county central committee met at Santa Ana on Saturday and, in compliance with instructions issued by the state central committee, called primaries for May 5th. The county convention will meet two days thereafter on May 7th. Delegates to the state and senatorial district conventions will be elected, and candidates named for superior judge and assemblyman.
R. Y. Williams, chairman of the committee, presided, and in the absence of Secretary Ulm, H. J. Forgy acted as such official.
A motion made by J. W. Morrison and duly seconded, was to the effect that a primary election throughout the county be called for May 5th for the purpose of electing delegates to a county convention to be held at Santa Ana at 11 a.m., May 7th, for the purpose of electing: First, Thirteen delegates to the state convention; second, thirteen delegates to the Senatorial convention; third, a candidate for Superior Judge; fourth, an Assemblyman.
An amendment was moved by H. J. Forgy to the effect that the delegates to the Senatorial convention be not elected at the convention on May 7th, but at a date subsequent to the holding of the Riverside county convention. Mr. Forgy explained at some length that this would give the Republicans
thing better evidences the strength of the Lincoln-Roosevelt republican base in the northern part of the state than the way it has harmonized unified the republican forces in Francisco. But a short time ago republicans there seemed hopeless-divided and disorganized by factions the party seriously demoralized. It not appear possible to harmonize unite the discordant elements; but Lincoln - Roosevelt republican base has accomplished it, and in a very way. The regular republicounty committee has endorsed the vote of the league and the campaign committee that it has appointed, and two organizations are working in hand for better government in better party in the state. Verily Francisco, at whom everybody been pointing the finger of scorn, set an example the rest of the state well emulate.

the state convention; second, thirteen delegates to the Senatorial convention; third, a candidate for Superior Judge; fourth, an Assemblyman.
An amendment was moved by H. J. Forgy to the effect that the delegates to the Senatorial convention be not elected at the convention on May 7th, but at a date subsequent to the holding of the Riverside county convention.
Mr. Forgy explained at some length that this would give the Republicans of Orange county a chance to see what Riverside intended to do in the matter of the presentation of a candidate and in the matter of instructions, and that their action would, to a certain extent at least, control the action of the Orange county convention. Mr. Forgy spoke very plainly, saying that his proposed amendment, if adopted, would avert any fight over the nomination and election of superior judge and assemblyman and that a very large portion of the republicans of this county were heartily in favor of delaying the selecting of Orange county's delegates to the senatorial convention until a date subsequent to the holding of the Riverside county convention.
S. O. Walker (personal representative of the Herrin machine) opposed the motion, saying it would "make trouble in the republican party, and for God's sake let us have no trouble in the party." He added that all the trouble the party had had in the past came from Santa Ana.
A vote being taken, Forgy's resolution was defeated.
A resolution declaring in favor of the nomination of Wm. H. Taft as the nominee of the party for president was then presented by H. J. Forgy. It is as follows:
"Resolved, That the republican central committee of Orange county favors the election of delegates to the coming state convention who will support the candidacy of Wm. H. Taft for president, and will use all reasonable efforts to secure from the said state convention a resolution instructing the delegates from the state of California to the national convention for Taft so long as his name is before the convention."
The resolution was unanimously adopted.
W. J. Montgomery was appointed central committeeman for West Anaheim precinct.
