MERS WAR OVER DYKE has broken out afresh between owners on two sides of the Santa Clarita. For years the ranchers to side in the lowlands have words' points with the ranch-east, and the ranchers to the built dikes that turned the rivers to the west. There have uneuvers and counter-maneuveris fight, in which the bone of man was the unwelcome river roads, laid plans to meet the latest Von Schriltz maneuver. Supt. Moore will build a dike along the west side of the river that will catch the western turn of the current as it is sent across from Von Schriltz's dikes. This will turn the water south and carry it around the western end of Von Schriltz's dike. As soon as it gets beyond the Van Schriltz dike it will be allowed to take its course for the county roads will no longer be endangered. This may be characterized as a flank movement. It will turn the water out below the present breastworks, and the Eastsiders who live below will have to take their chances as in former years. The water will flow directly over one of Von Schriltz's ranches. So far this year the flood waters have done but little damage to the county roads, and the county move is preparatory for a possible heavy flood. Monday night a delegation of West Siders went before the Council and wanted to know how the city came to deed away the ten acres to the Jap without making the reservations for the river channel.
