Max Ridder writes from Los Angeles asking information relative to the date of the semi-centennial celebration. Word has been dispatched him that the celebration has been postponed indefinitely. No celebration this year Max; fifty years hence we may have one.

P. H. Krick was unable to attend an annual session of the Masonic Grand lodge in San Francisco this week, owing to business engagements which kept him at home. Mr. Krick fills an important position of inspector of Masonic lodges for this district, and he been looking forward with keen anticipations of pleasure to his northern trip.

Light showers and indications heavier rainfall on Friday boded for beet farmers, as well as bean grain raisers throughout the country. The precipitation was insignificantly and no damage was done. But hard continues with energy, the crop being about half in. This week will see last of the threshing outfits on the Joaquin ranch, where nine steam furnaces have been threshing beans barley during the season. The yield of beans is 125,000 sacks. No rain wanted until Thanksgiving.

L. A. Whiteman closed his elec theatre on Monday evening, and Tuesday quietly stole away to Pomona. There seemed to be enough business sight, the theatre being well filled evening, but city “juice” was piled and as a result pictures could not advantageously shown. E. L. Olmstead continues ill at his parents' home in Redlands, but is improving. He is expected to return in the near future.
Mrs. Williams of Phoenix, A. T., was a guest of friends in town on Sunday. Mrs. Williams is the widow of the former law partner of Gov. Kibbey of Arizona. Her husband met death four years ago as result of a rattlesnake bite at Aguas Caliente, where he had gone on a camping expedition. She has been spending the summer in Los Angeles, and leaves this week for her home in the territory.
When in Los Angeles visit the "San Diego" Beer Hall and Cafe, 226-228 North Main street, directly opposite new postoffice site. Merchants' lunch served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. "San Diego" the Quality Beer on tap. The motto of this Tavern, is to "Treat all alike and serve each guest well."

It has not yet been accepted by the city, but will probably be within a few days. The tank is 92 feet high. The foundation and twelve supports are of reinforced concrete and steel. The tank itself is 32 feet in height, and 30 feet in diameter. Engines and boilers are being installed and an effort will be made to have the plant in operation before the end of the year.
Frank Thorp of Santa Ana has a force of men engaged in moving the two-story frame building on the Kraemer lot east of the First National bank to the gas works. The vacated lot will be shortly graced by a modern brick structure; work upon which will shortly be begun by Mr. Kraemer. The adjoining lot on the west, owned by Judge Shanley, will also be the scene of improvement in the near future. The frame building will be moved off, and replaced by a fine brick structure.
Walter Johnson outpitched the veteran Plank in a game of baseball at Washington on Friday between the Senators and Phillies; score 2 to 1. Johnson struck out 6 men, and the Phillies made 8 hits off his delivery. Plank struck out 3, and the Senators amassed a total of 11 swats. The game decided the fate of the Quakers, for losing the game they were relegated to second place in the American league, which closed this week. The Detroit team was aboard a train bound for St. Louis at the time, and did not play. However, the Philadelphia's defeat places Detroit at head of the league. When it is remembered that Washington is the tail-end club, Johnson's feat is all the more conspicuous. The Phillies gave Detroit a hard fight for first place. One of Connie Mack's staff of pitchers is the erratic Rube Waddell, who pitched for Los Angeles several seasons ago.

Postmaster Duckworth is in read of a letter from Inspector Montana; the rural free delivery service which he states he will be here week to inspect and report upon route of rural free delivery to eminent territory southeast of the city. Montanya is expected to report ably, a sufficient number of selections have been secured for the season and the department will doubtless derive the delivery of mail to begin soon as his report is received atington. The inspector will allow over a sixth route leading to Grove, which Mr. Duckworth hopes have in working order in the future.
Walnuts are being shipped from section by carloads, the harvest at its height. The association paid 15 cents is the highest yet recalled outside buyers are offering In the season of 1893, when a pair walnuts prevailed, prices drop low as 31 cents.
