ROYER HEADS LIST; $1000 West End Capitalist Teffs Committee to Call for More if It Is Needed for Right of Way J.O. Royer, the West End capitalist, who some months ago purchased the Peter Weisel place on Walnut street, and has since made great improvements to the property, is the first man to announce his willingness to contribute most liberally to the fund being raised for procuring right of way for an electric line from Garden Grove to this city, and for grading the roadbed. E. L. Olmstead and Judge Howard on Thursday, following a special meeting of the chamber of commerce the preceding afternoon, held a conference with Mr. Royer and other wealthy people owning property along the line of the proposed electric railway. Mr. Royer informed the committee he would head a subscription list with $1000. "If you run short in funds, call on me again," he added. He was thanked for his liberality. Ten thousand dollars will be required. Ten large walnut growers south-west of town, near whose tracts the road preceding afternoon, held a conference with Mr. Royer and other wealthy people owning property along the line of the proposed electric railway. Mr. Royer informed the committee he would head a subscription list with $1000. "If you run short in funds, call on me again," he added. He was thanked for his liberality. Ten thousand dollars will be required. Ten large walnut growers southwest of town, near whose tracts the road will run, are counted upon for subscriptions of $500 each. It has been suggested that an assessment district should be formed, as with the La Habra line, and assess property $2 per acre for a distance of two miles on each side of the road. Business men in town will be liberal contributors. Messrs. Olmstead and Howard were in Los Angeles on Friday to confer with the Huntington Beach land company. They informed the company that Anaheim will contract to procure right of way for the road and grade the roadbed. Papers will this week pass between the parties, and it is believed a contract with the Pacific Electric company for continuing the line from Garden Grove to this city will be entered into. At the meeting of the chamber of commerce on Wednesday afternoon of last week, already referred to in these columns, there were present Messrs. Olmstead, Walker, Williams, Resh, Wickett, Howard and Quarton. With them were a number of other citizens who participated in the discussion. The meeting convened at 4:30. Chairman Olmstead stated the object of the meeting, which was to take action upon the request of the Huntington Beach company for a contract, signed by officials of the chamber, and a number of citizens, agreeing to procure right of way and for grading the roadbed. The chamber after discussion voted to enter into contract for the purposes stated. It was also voted to immediately notify the Huntington Beach company of the action of the body. A Santa Ana man claiming close touch with civic affairs about said at Newport Beach day that if that town was raising $30,000 for right of grading for the electric railroad had not heard of it. He said: "The only grade which can been offered the railway coast the east embankment of the river, after the work of conductor to its channel shall be by the Newbert protection. This offer has, I believe, but it will not cost the people Ana $30,000 or anything like it." What right vests in the S.S. chamber of commerce to offer way upon this river embankment not quite clear. And as for the body will probably ask the pay for it. Meantime the work of soliciting $10,000 to procure and grade of way from Garden Grove to goes merrily on. ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA, THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 19, confidently believed that this earlier an electric line of railway ever before in its history. It is taken by our citizens as cause of the support and co-operation of the Huntington Beach company as for the natural ad-dition offering. It may be stated elate certainty that the people of Huntington Beach and Garden favor a route to this city, rather than deflected three miles east to Ana. The latter town has raised with which to purchase right and to grade the roadbed from Ana to that city. The people of Ana Beach, Talbert, Bolsa, Grove and this city have signets to procure right of way on the roadbed to this city on going these towns. Huntington is east, and will pro-turn return for several weeks. Return through California it is expected there will be going. Ana man claiming to be in touch with civic affairs there-at Newport Beach on Sunday that town was engaged in 10,000 for right of way and for the electric railway he heard of it. He said: fully grade which could have freed the railway company is embankment of the Santa Ana Will Buy Bixby Ranch The directors of the two valley water companies met in joint session at the office of the Anaheim Union Water company on Monday and discussed with Fred H. Bixby of Long Beach terms for purchasing his 714-acre tract at Horseshoe Bend. Appurtenant to the tract is a stream of 100 inches of water, which gives it additional value. Mr. Bixby has been desirous of selling, and the water companies have been anxious to buy, but terms have not been agreed upon. The water appurtenant to the land is not sufficient for Bixby's purposes, and he cannot develop more except at considerable expense. He has held the tract at $100,000. A formal tender of a sum approximately half this figure was made him, which he will have until Oct. 1st to consider. The meeting decided to give right of way to the Santa Fe for constructing its new track along the route occupied by the Anaheim company's upper ditch, provided the railway company install and maintain perpetually a nine-foot vitrified pipe at this point the entire length of the ditch. The two companies will shortly begin construction of a joint canal of 10,-000 inches capacity to Scully's Point, a mile from Bedrock canyon, where present division of water in the wind- Ana man claiming to be in ch with civic affairs there at Newport Beach on Sunof that town was engaged in 0,000 for right of way and for the electric railway he heard of it. She visited him, and on her was called to his side by a announcing his serious illness Sandilands will shortly rehome in London. Walnuts 15c. Per Pound Walnuts will probably bring 15 cents per pound this season. This is a top-notch figure, being the highest price ever received by local growers. The associations have not yet determined what the price shall be, but it is said in authorative circles that 15 cents will be about the figure. A large orchardist at Katella this week refused 13½ cents for his crop, taking the run of the orchard. This is equivalent to 15 cents for first choice. The season's crop is shorter than last but the quality first-class. The French crops are short and local growers are standing for the high price which at present rules. Independent buyers are offering 13 cents. Eight years ago prices ranged no higher than 6 cents and many nuts were disposed of at 4 to 5 cents per pound. The answer to aint, filed today, puts quite complexion on the matter, as tion is made that defendant phased any goods from plainer were any goods delivered or sold by plaintiff to defendant, but that defendant consented to allow plaintiff to ship certain goods to defendant's store for sale as property of plaintiff. Defendant further alleges that the whole transaction was fraudulent on the part of plaintiff and that as soon as defendant learned of the true nature of the deal, he re-shipped the goods back to plaintiff. Defendant therefore prays that plaintiff take nothing by this action and that defendant have judgment for costs and disbursements and for such other redress as may seem proper under the circumstances.
