LOCAL EVENTS
Mrs. Wilmot Mowry of Pasadena was a guest of friends in town the past week. Mrs. Mowry may decide to come to Anaheim to reside.

Capt. Williams went to Los Angeles the first of the week to meet Harrison Slocum, an old-time Pittsburg friend who accompanied him to this city to spend a brief visit.
Charley Alfred has a bunch of color out for practice at Athletic park grounds every Sunday, and will break in the local team with the best of them when the season opens next month. Charley is a Texas leaguer, and is hitting the leather harder than ever this year.
A. O. Horn returned this week from the Kelso mine, where he has been engaged as engineer for several months past. He will remain a fortnight, and will then return to the mine. The shaft has reached a depth of 195 feet and indications of the existence of rich ore are increasing. A cross cut was run in the 150-foot level which opened up fine prospects for a rich mine.
Miss Carrie E. Roberts, former principal of the grammar school here, and later temporarily assistant in the office of the county school superintendent, has been elected principal of the Orange grammar school. Miss Roberts is one of the county’s most able instructors, and Orange is fortunate indeed in securing her services.

Miss Edith Knapp, who has been touring Europe with a party of friends writes that she has been engaged in snow-balling in the Alps, along with many other divertisements of the trip which has been a notably pleasant one. Miss Knapp is expected to return this week to resume her duties as principals in the primary, which opens next Monday day.
Rev. Rogatsky of the German-Methodist church is in San Francisco this week attending annual conference. He is accompanied by his wife and will be absent a fortnight. Rev. Rogatsky has been elected by quarterly conference to fill the pulpit of his church and other year, his labors in the vineyard during the past two years having met with approval, as well by his increasing congregation as by his ecclesiastical superiors. His continued residence here will be hailed with delight not only by members of his church, but by many non-members who have come to appreciate his many good qualities and their worth.
When Roy Firebaugh looked for his bicycle on Friday evening, at the curb in front of Mullinix’s drugstore, where he had left it an hour before, he found it missing, and had to borrow another wheel to reach home. The next morning his wheel was found in Los Angeles street near Litten’s blacksmith shop. A month ago Max Horwitz’ wheel was taken, and some weeks before that time Oscar Heying’s bicycle was stolen from where he had left it at the curb. These wheels were not returned, and although the police were notified no trace of them was ever found.

C. O. Rust, C. G. McKinley, Miss Elsie Rust and Miss Theresa Fay, spent Sunday at Huntington Beach, going down in the former's auto.
Mr. and Mrs. Herman Dickel and Miss Freda Hansen of Berkeley, who has been their guest for some weeks past, spent Sunday at Ocean Park. They returned on the midnight train.
J. P. Zeyn and daughters, Mrs. C E. Holcomb and Miss Dora Zeyn, have been sojourning at Newport Beach. Mr. Holcomb comes down from Los Angeles on the electric every evening and returns the next morning.
O. R. Fuller was in town a day or two ago in his Cadillac, of which model he reports quite a demand. The machine is one of the best on the market and Fuller is always ready to demonstrate to prospective purchasers the machine's good qualities.

L. F. Lewis and daughter, Miss Cora Lewis, visited with relatives in town the past week, guests of Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Lewis. On Sunday they were taken to Laguna Beach in an auto for a brief outing. They returned on Monday to their home at Puente. Mr. Lewis had not been here in a number of years, and saw many evidences of advancement in town and county.

John Seeman of this city leaves week for Iowa, where he will spend month with his brother, whom he not seen in several years.
