Miss Alexandria Fay is here from Brooklyn, N. Y., visiting relatives.
Born, Friday, July 19th, to the wife of W. A. Frantz, a girl.
Supt. J. P. Greeley of the Whittier state school was in town on Thursday.
Miss Ida Rannow is home from Los Angeles for a short visit with her folks.
Ernest Schroeder, aged 22, and Flora Schimming, aged 20, both of this city, have been licensed to wed.
Fred Johnson and wife returned on Monday from a pleasant two-weeks' outing at National City and Lower California.
Artificer J. P. Gibson and a corps of assistants is engaged at the armory in a general cleanup of Co. E.'s effects since its return from the Presidio.
Mrs. Ed. Pellegrin and children have arrived from Nogales, Ariz., to spend the summer with friends.
Mrs. Grimshaw, Miss Grimshaw, Mrs. Ed. Pellegrin and Mrs. Benner-schmidt were visitors in Los Angeles on Monday.
Claude Glass, who has been visiting his folks at San Ramon, has returned and assumed his position as foreman on C. O. Rust's place on Palm street.
Mayor Rust departed yesterday for Strawberry Valley for a fortnight's visit with his folks, who are domiciled there for their summer vacation.
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Dyer spent Sunday at Ocean Park. Mrs. Dyer remained there a few days as the guest of Mrs. Tomas Hext of Denver.
Tim Carroll recently returned from Work upon the new concrete for the water works is progressing idly and will soon be ready for tank. The cement wellpit also rushed to completion, is of a substantial character and together with two fine wells forms a valuable to the city’s water works. The enlarged water mains are being and quite an activity pervades the city departments. Many water and lights consumers will be ed to the lists just so soon as the works and electric light improve are completed. The present plant been overloaded for months past, due to the rapid growth of the city with the enlarged and modern house equipped with the best and improved machinery, the city’s municipal plant will be one of the best state.
Harold H. Moore, traveling larger agent of the Santa Fe, was in a day or two ago looking after bus interests. Mr. Moore is one of most popular railroad men on the road and has friends in every cross-town, as well as in the larger burgee state. He was in personal contact of the editorial excursion to Teneme some weeks ago, and has since conceded a party through the Grand Canyon returning in charge of a N. E. accession. He reports his company business out of this city for June heaviest for that month in the hottest of the company.
Miss Elsie Asher entertained a number of her friends at a party on Friday evening in honor of her fifteenth day. She was assisted by her sister Miss Gertrude Asher, and an enjoyable evening was participated in. Cities were played and refreshments served. Those present were: Misses Elsie Asher

W. G. Mason and a large contingent in and about Loara station are mourning the demise of his pet cat "Rags," whose life got snuffed out Tuesday morning by being run over by the local north-bound flyer.
J. H. Clabaugh visited relatives at Arlington over Sunday. Mrs. Clabaugh, who had been a guest of friends there during the past week, returned with him on Sunday evening.
The shipment of potatoes from this place continues briskly, the Wagner Bros. and Mr. Hall being probably the largest shippers. The tubers are money this year and all raisers of spuds have cleaned up quite a snug bank account.
A frightful accident befell John Oxarart while the young man was driving a four-mule team in Fullerton on his way home in the La Habra valley from this city one day last week. The mules took fright at a passing automobile and turning suddenly cramped the wagon and broke the tongue. Mr. Oxarart was thrown to the ground and his left arm was caught in a wheel, dislocated at the shoulder, torn and bruised, and his body otherwise severely injured. The unfortunate young man was given immediate medical attention, and made to feel as comfortable as possible under the circumstances. It is feared he will never regain the use of his injured arm.
The family of M. A. Williams held a reunion at the ranch home in Soquel canyon on Sunday, and the occasion will long be pleasantly remembered. A bountiful spread was a feature. The kin folks came from several neighboring towns and when all assembled

Richard Melrose of this city Domingo Bastanchury of Fullerton were guests at the Hollenbeck house the time of the fire which threatened for a time to consume the building night last week. Each escaped in nightclothes. After the subsidence the flames, which were confined to cupola, they returned to their room and procured their valuables and belongings.
Sam Williams came in from Yuma few days ago to visit with the family He has been in the territory in recent years for 10 years and sees many changes here during his absence. He has posed of his interests in the territory and will remain in this state in future. Sam was in town Monday evening in company of his brother Milam, and visited Aerie No. 946 see the latter ride the goat that entered.
C. Amberg was in Los Angeles Monday tracing up a shipment of vitreure and supplies for his barber An order for these goods was placed nine weeks ago, and he was assigned three weeks' time was sufficient effect delivery. A tracer was sent and Mr. Amberg was promised freight would arrive without further delay.
Mr. and Mrs. Levi Mann depended on Tuesday for Corona where she will visit for a few days with S.Cottle and wife, and will then proceed to San Diego for a fortnight's stay.
Simon Toussau of this city, natl France, aged 29 years, has made a cation to become a naturalized citizen

The day was spent in relating reminiscences of the past, the family being one of the oldest in their section, and it was with regret that the time came for leavetaking, for it has been years since the family has been assembled together at one time. May they all live long and prosper is the wish of their many friends.

S. D. Rule transacted business in Los Angeles on Monday. Mr. Rule is the possessor of 50 acres of Orange county's choicest soil, all of which is intensively cultivated. Twenty acres is devoted to the propagation of garden and farm seeds, which have been contracted for by a Los Angeles wholesale seed house; the balance is devoted to the raising of spuds, which have proved to be a lucrative crop this year. From six acres devoted to the latter crop he cleared $900 net.

The Fraternal Brotherhood held joint installation with the Fullerton lodge at the latter place on Wednesday evening. Sister Supreme Vice-president Neidig of Los Angeles conducted the installation. A banquet followed the official ceremonies.

Tim Carroll wishes to return thanks to the fire company and citizens generally for their prompt response to the fire alarm given for the fire at Yerde's place in the West End Monday afternoon. It had been erroneously stated that Mr. Carroll's barn was burning. Nevertheless Mr. Carroll is loud in his praise of the efficiency of the fire company and takes this means of bestowing praise upon the company for its promptness in rendering assistance to those when in need, whether the call comes from outside their jurisdiction or not.
Herman Dickel is spending a few weeks at Tent City.

Rev. A. B. Markel of the Church will speak on "Latter Prophets" next Sunday evening are invited.

Barn Burned
A barn belonging to Ernest Yarde
west of town was destroyed by fire on
Monday afternoon shortly after 3
o'clock. A horse, several tons of hay,
a buggy and various farming utensils
were consumed. Two pigs were so
badly burned they had to be killed.
The origin of the fire is supposed to
have been children playing with matches.
The fire department responded
promptly, but on account of the distance from the city mains were powerless to stay the flames.
Yarde was away at the time. No insurANCE was carried upon the barn or its contents.

Our services will be at 11 a.m., and 7:30 p.m., the afternoon morning, "The Signs of the Occurring the Proximity of the World." The meetings last past week have been well attended and have resulted in some

Special Meeting
The city trustees held a special meeting Friday evening and granted C. Schindler & Son an extension of time on their contract with the city for constructing sidewalks on Chartres, Chestnut, Oak and Claudina streets. The time limit in the original contract expired July 22d.
On recommendation of the superintendent of streets the council accepted the sidewalks on Chartres and Oak streets.
There were present Trustees Rust, Fiscus and Darling.
Mrs. Leroy Beardsley and daughter, Miss Gertrude, of Wisconsin, are guests of Mrs. Beebe. On Friday they were taken to Upland for an outing. They drove on Euclid avenue and visited other points of interest in the upper valley. They leave this week for their home in the east.
Miss Ethel McFarland and Miss Mabel Bush, charming young ladies, will preside over the ice cream booth at the Christian church social in Shanley's building Saturday afternoon and evening.
Miss Helen Fossek is home for a week's vacation from Los Angeles, where she has a responsible position with a mercantile firm.
