Two Meanest Men
Constable Llewellyn and Zanjero Brunworth stand revealed before the community as the two meanest men. It all came about this way: A bunch of eight hoboes struck town a few days ago and went into camp in an abandoned ditch northeast of the gashouse. They had with them the epileptic Lemke, already referred to in these columns, who was sent down town to "chuck a dummy," or in other words throw an imitation fit. The fellow succeeded in raising quite a collection of dimes and other small change, with which drink was purchased for the hobo gang.
Llewellyn espied the outfit the first evening after their arrival. They were having their supper in the big ditch. A bright fire was blazing, and about the blaze beds had been prepared. Some of the tramps had blankets, and soft couches of leaves had been prepared for them. After their evening meal the tramps spent a time about the camp fire, and later turned in for the night.
Here is where Llewellyn's meanness got into play. Hunting up Brunworth he requested him to turn down several hundred inches of water into the ditch the tramps were occupying.
Brunworth proved to be as mean a man as Llewellyn. A great head of water soon enveloped the lusty hoboes from head to foot.

The Burglar and the Shotgun
A burglar entered Spoerl's gunstore shortly before 12 o'clock on Sunday night and helped himself to five receivers in the showcase upon the counter. The he stepped in front of the upright showcase against the wall containing guns and rifles, but before he had a chance to open the door a double-barreled shotgun at his elbow zipped away, the shot tearing a hole in the ceiling.
The shot was heard by people in an operating restaurant, who saw three men running south through the lot, two men being well in front, the otheristance in the rear. Apparently the man in the lead had stood outside while another fellow went inside. A tolerable fair description of the burglars, who are believed to be kids about ten, was secured and arrests may follow. It is believed they are members of the Wyatt gang of young toughs. Spoerl is at the Whittier reform pool for burglarizing the same store several weeks ago.
When Spoerl reached his store on Sunday morning he found the rear door open. Behind the counter in the first room lay two pistols which had been dropped by the burglar in his sight. Outside the door lay another revolver.
Parade of Products
Yesterday Santa Ana entertained a crowd of several thousand people at her second annual parade of products, which was superior in attractiveness to that occurring a year ago. The citizens spared no pains in preparation. Special rates were arranged on all roads. One of the features of the day was a free ride about the ranches and groves in the vicinity of the county seat. The parade was started at 11 o'clock in the morning and was reviewed on Sycamore street, near Sixth. Special arrangements were made by the hotels and restaurants to provide visitors with food, and various church and fraternal societies were prepared to furnish dinner for several thousand people.
William M. Tubbs was grand marshal of the parade, which was in five divisions.
In the afternoon the program included a concert by the Santa Ana band at the courthouse, followed by an address of welcome by Hon. Clyde Bishop; races at the driving park, under the direction of the Santa Ana driving club; a baseball game by league players; an exhibition by the Santa Ana fire department, and a concert by massed bands.
In the evening there was an exhibition street drill by the Columbia club with illumination.
When Spoerl reached his store on Sunday morning he found the rear door open. Behind the counter in the room lay two pistols which had been dropped by the burglar in his hut. Outside the door lay another revolver.
Spoerl thinks the burglar succeeded getting away with two revolvers. The burglar crawled through a rear window, after which he opened the door opening into the backyard.
When the shot came he lost no time bitering. Spoerl states he had only small charge of shot in the gun. He had the gun ready for burglars since the last time his place was burglared several months ago.
and Mrs. R, H. Gilman were in town from Placentia on Tuesday. Mr. Man states his orange orchard is open with as fine a crop for the com-season as his trees ever produced, he has grown many fancy crops embarking in the orange busi-ness. These reports do not astonish coming as they do from the richest most beautiful spot on earth.
