A yield of metallic substances gold and silver was for the year 1984, and in these are also nicksilver, chrome, lead, pyrite and tungsten. This is Harbors of California.
With a coast line of twelve hundred miles, including all the indentations, California is remarkable for its paucity of harbors, and for the magnificence of the few that it possesses. On the Atlantic coast between Boston, which is on a line with the northern boundary of California, and Savannah, Georgia, which is opposite San Diego, there are many harbors, but of them all there is not one which will equal the harbor of San Pedro, San Diego, or Eureka harbors.
Every state on the Atlantic coast which boasts a harbor, makes much of it, and more attention is paid to its development and maintenance than to any other interest in the commonwealth, for the people there fully realize the value of a harbor to the interior as well as to the special location of the entrepot. In the past California has paid but little attention to her harbors. The people of the interior have had so many interests to conserve that seemed of more vital importance, that they have been prone to overlook the advantages to be derived from a system of harbors which gives the whole state easy access to the markets of the world.
The United States government is being constantly called upon by Eastern communities for harbor and river improvement, and through united action of the people there the appropriations provided for by Congress are carefully watched and efforts made at once to get a large share for unimportant harbors. If the people of California would unite as do those of Atlantic states, the harbors of California would be in far better condition, and in addition to federal work such influence would be brought to bear on the State legislature as would be effective in having our harbors properly cared for.

Supreme Court Decision
The state supreme court recently rendered a decision in the case of Merritt vs. the city of Riverside which may be of interest to our readers. Suit was brought by the plaintiff against the street superintendent, his bondsmen and the city trustees of Riverside for damages alleged to have resulted from the carelessness of said street superintendent. A verdict and judgment were given plaintiff in the trial court from which defendant appealed. Now the supreme court has affirmed that decision so far as it relates to the street superintendent and his bondsmen and reversed it relative to all others.

the modern strength creator and body builder
Many people right here in this vicinity are all run down and hardly able to drag about—don't know what ails them.
"Such people need Vinol, our cod liver preparation without oil, which contains in a highly concentrated form all of the medicinal and strength-creating elements of cod liver oil actually taken from fresh cods' livers, but from which the useless oil is eliminated and tonic iron added."
We ask every man, woman and child in this vicinity who is run down, tired and debilitated to try Vinol on our offer to return money if it fails.
