LOCAL EVENTS Edward Michod has purchased a new touring car. Alex Henry was a visitor in town on Monday from Caledonia Grove. Mr. Dickel has had the interior of his store repainted and its appearance otherwise renovated and improved. Mr. and Mrs. Amberg have moved into their newly purchased residence on Claudina street. Mr. Nagel and family have moved into the Howard cottage two blocks south. Mr. Lagman has closed a deal for two lots in Nemetz tract fronting Olive street, near Center, with an object of building. The lot has 108 feet frontage and the consideration is $1000. A petition is in circulation at Fullerton and being numerously signed asking the city trustees to call an election to vote upon disincorporation. Opponents of the present city government aver the vote if taken will be in favor of disincorporating the town. County Treasurer Potter was over from Santa Ana the first of the week, accompanied by Charley Vandelip. Mr. Potter says democrats at the county seat concede his election by over 1000 majority. Supt. Lawrence of the Los Almitos sugar factory was in town a day or two ago. He expects to run the factory until December, and looks forward to a record-breaking run. Sugar percentages and purity continue high, and an excellent quality of sugar is being manufactured. A steam mangle and other machinery consigned to J. T. The annual report showed the bank to be in excellent condition, and that it is now paying expenses and 5 per cent on its capital stock. A new board of directors was chosen. When the old man died he left property estimated to be worth $10,000. There were only two heirs, Thompson and his brother, who lived at home. The Clair man wrote his brother that he would take $1000 and sign a deed vesting in him the entire estate. In a few weeks a letter arrived containing a check for $1000, together with a blank deed. When Thompson got the money he refused to sign the deed, but instead entered a plea for half the estate. He secured affidavits stating that when he wrote offering to sign a deed in return for $1000 he was insane, but the Irish court ruled that he must produce his witnesses in court to corroborate their story. Failing to so produce them the court issued a deed to the brother, and Thompson is out several thousand dollars on the deal. Plans and specifications of the Welborn Wallop residence are in the market for estimates. From statement made by the architect the cost of the building will be from $2500 to $3000 and when completed will add greatly to that residence section of our city, which has improved wonderfully within the past two years. The fire was caused, so Foreman Wilson of the ranch states, by sparks from a passing locomotive. It was discovered at about 1 o'clock in the afternoon, and although the entire ranch force and many of the neighboring ranchers responded quickly, doing everything to quell the flames, the fire burned until Thursday at noon. It was one of the worst fires in the history of that part of Orange county. Mr. Wilson estimates there are 700 head of stock on the ranch, and believes sufficient feed remains to carry them through the season. Democrats Call Off Meetings Tax Collector Robinson was in town on Friday with the Bell party, as was also Sheriff Lacy, Surveyor Finley and other candidates. Robinson said the democratic county central committee had decided to call off the meetings of candidates in the several precincts of Orange county. "Why did the committee do this?" he was asked. "Well," he replied, meditatively, "the are no accommodations in many of the outlying precincts [Billy Hale hunched the reporter], and we decided to give all spare time to a personal canvass. We did contemplate holding those meetings; but they have been called off."
