Democratic State Nominees
Theodore A. Bell, former congressman from the Second California district, was nominated by acclamation for governor by the democratic state convention in session last week at Sacramento.
Thomas A. Toland was given the nomination of lieutenant governor by acclamation as well. It was not until late in the afternoon that the nominating was begun. But when the work of selecting the nominees had fairly started, it proceeded with great rapidity. The following is the complete ticket:

During the proceedings of the convention the following resolution, offered by Frank Gould of San Francisco, was adopted:
“Resolved, That in the so-called Independence League we recognize a political machine created by W. R. Hearst for his own political preferment and of which he is the undisputed boss, and an ingenious endeavor to forestall and prevent the nomination for president and to compass the defeat of America’s greatest citizen, William J. Bryan; we therefore denounce such purposes and call upon all true democrats to oppose such ends.”
Rival of Niagara
In the heart of South America, at the meeting place of three republics, Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay, nature has chosen the site for a masterpiece of scenic grandeur to be compared only to the mighty Niagara in majesty, and pronounced by some of the few travelers who have seen it to be even greater than its North American counterpart:
The Falls of Iguazu are at the junction of the Iguazu river with the upper Parana, in a territory famous as the original locality of the Jesuit missions established in the sixteenth century, the ruins of which may still be seen by those who visit the falls.

If a Cow gave Butter
mankind would have to invent milk. Milk is Nature's emulsion—butter put in shape for digestion. Cod liver oil is extremely nourishing, but it has to be emulsified before we can digest it.
Scott's Emulsion
combines the best oil with the valuable hypophosphites so that it is easy to digest and does far more good than the oil alone could. That makes Scott's Emulsion the most strengthening, nourishing food-medicine in the world.

The Great Forepaugh-Sells Circus with an Abundance of Features
Forepaugh and Sells Brothers' World's Greatest Shows, which will exhibit in Santa Ana Sept. 26th, has been enlarged upon such a broad scale of liberality as to almost preclude the depiction of its real magnitude on paper. Forepaugh and Sells Brothers, always modern and progressive, have had for years the biggest and best show on earth, yet this season they have more than doubled their immense amusement enterprise by the addition of complete new trains, hundreds of horses and people, and by entire new shows. The crowning feature of these almost unlimited additions is the stupendous spectacular and pantomimic production, "Fighting the Flames," introducing 1200 people and an entire trainload of massive scenery and ornate accessories. This colossal production is shown in the largest tent ever made for a circus—a mammoth canvas theatre, arena and aerial enclosure, brilliantly lighted and comfortably seating 12,000 people. The monster free street parade, a glittering pageant fully three miles in length, is alone worth the amount charged for the circus proper. It is replete with new and novel professional attractions, displaying beautifully carved and decorated floats.
