THE REPUBLICAN TICKET
The republican ticket, which will be found printed in another column of this issue, is composed of men in every way worthy not only of the support of their party, but as well of good citizens generally from one end of the county to the other. The aim of the nominating convention was to place before the voters a ticket which would in every way commend itself to them as worthy of their support. The result has been that probably the strongest ticket ever nominated by the party is now before the people soliciting their suffrages.
It is undeniable that in past campaigns the republican ticket has included weak nominations, and just so sure as these men were not up to the requisite political and moral standards, just that they have a living impersonation of domitable will and stick-will do for a man in this A vote for Walker will for an honest and unfarmer. It is undeniable that in past campaigns the republican ticket has included weak nominations, and just so sure as these men were not up to the requisite political and moral standard, just that sure were they doomed to defeat upon election day. This year no trace of weak timber can be found in the ticket. The nominees are all individually strong, clean and competent men. They are entitled to the support of their party throughout the county. Many of them are wheel-horses in the party, having spent much of their time and means in the past to insure the success of the ticket. This is the first time a number of them have solicited the suffrages of the people for themselves. They are richly entitled to it, and will unquestionably receive it.
W. B. Williams for county clerk is one of the strongest nominees upon a ticket notably strong from top to bottom. For several years he has filled the office of deputy county clerk, and is regarded as probably the best equipped man who ever held the office. He is a lawyer by profession, which qualifies him in an eminent degree for the many intricate duties of the office. Williams comes from Orange, where he has lived for many years, and is held in high esteem by all who know him. In his case the election which approaches in November seems merely a meaningless formality, for his democratic opponent is destined to such a beating that he will not know he was ever in the fight.
For sheriff the nominee is probable result has been that probably the strongest ticket ever nominated by the party is now before the people soliciting their suffrages.
For auditor, the nominee Lester, is among the most young republicans of the Lester’s nomination was spects the best made by vention, for he is a vote-gaway back. From Olive istrano come good report way this young man is going on election day. Dem many county precincts are for him and are helped in his campaign. This should be, for the audition needs a man of his sterility and capacity in order duct its affairs properly. Office in the county require ability than this of Lester is signally fitted to duties in every detail.
For treasurer, W. G. F. such weak opposition that practically a walkoverponent has the unenviability of having named his assassin of Lincoln may go in Yazoo, but it will receive the stamp of ap Orange county. While collecting an Orange cohibit for the world’s faction, J. C. years, and is held in high esteem by all who know him. In his case the election which approaches in November seems merely a meaningless formality, for his democratic opponent is destined to such a beating that he will not know he was ever in the fight.
For sheriff the nominee is probably today the most popular and best liked man in the county—S. O. Walker of Buena Park, the man who has aided more people in their political aspirations than probably any other man in the county. One peculiarity about Walker is that he is always ready at the beck and call of his friends to do for them any service, no matter at what cost to himself. He first saw Orange county some fifteen years ago, being at this time a tender-foot from the blooming state of Kansas. He thought he knew how to bore wells. He knows better now. He had seen the operation and thought it was easy. He purchased a well-boring outfit, and went broke. He worked out by the day and put in his own crop at night. When it came to grit, perseverance and self-denial, Walker proved himself a model for the best of us. For years he has been a successful farmer. His energy could not help but bring him success, and he stands

For tax collector J. will do the business for Undershirt. Mr. Lamb a resident of Orange county nineteen years, and is a photographer at the court. He is in every respect a man and has overcome which would seem absolutely surmountable to many When a mere child, in New York parents died, and he wished to an orphan asylum. little by little saved enough to come to California. He had heard of the Golden State, and had a longing to emigrate to the land of perpetual sunshine and flowers. Arriving in this state, he picked out the best section of it, and became a resident of what is now Orange county. He learned the photographer's trade, and has now one of the best galleries in Southern California. His work compares well with the best in the state and he enjoys a constantly increasing business. Lamb was induced to become the republican nominee for tax collector as being in every way fitted for the place, and is entitled to and will doubtless receive the support of every republican voter in the county, as well as many democratic votes. He is capable, energetic and painstaking, and would grace the tax collector's office. A vote for Lamb is a vote for a worthy young man, one who has fought his way to his present station by dint of indomitable will and energy and perseverance.
For assessor W. M. Scott has no democratic opponent, and will without doubt have an easy time rolling up what promises to be nearly a unanimous vote. Scott has been in the public service before, and has ever given an excellent account of his stewardship. He is president of the Santa Ana chamber of commerce, and has given much of his time and means to further the interests of that city as well as the county. He

Nomination was in all reelection best made by the conferent for he is a vote-getter from back. From Olinda to Capcome good reports of the young man is going to run election day. Democrats in county precincts are openly and are helping him campaign. This is as it appears, for the auditor's office man of his sterling integacity in order to confirm affairs properly. No other county requires more utility than this office, and is signally fitted to fulfill its every detail.
reasurer, W. G. Potter has weak opposition that he has really a walkover. His ophas the unenviable distinction having named his son after Cassin of Lincoln. This in Yazoo, but it will hardly be stamp of approval in county. While engaged in eng an Orange county exerior the world's fair, his opJ. C. Joplin, was openly of charging the county cases rendered on a Fourth when he was really off at side at the time. Pot- rated Joplin fairly and four years ago, but so was the latter to grab the hat he began a contest for in the courts. He conelection of his successful act, and put him to consider-ense, but was defeated and no private life. There will out doubt have an easy time rolling up what promises to be nearly a unanimous vote. Scott has been in the public service before, and has ever given an excellent account of his stewardship. He is president of the Santa Ana chamber of commerce, and has given much of his time and means to further the interests of that city as well as the county. He is fitted by business training and experience to fill the important office of assessor, and will undoubtedly make a success of his administration. Thoroughly honest, reliable and capable, Scott stands as a tower of strength to an excellent ticket. There is no stronger man upon it, and when the democrats refused to nominate an opponent to him, they unconsciously paid him a tribute which is of greatest value to him, for they tacitly admit he cannot be beaten at the polls. Vote for Scott and make it unanimous.
For district attorney S. M. Davis is probably the best fitted man in the county for the place. A lawyer of excellent reputation, he is entitled to the support of every member of his party, whatever their personal difference of opinion may be with references to planks in the platform. Davis stands for enforcing the law, and if elected will enforce the law to the letter. He is an able and energetic criminal lawyer, and as district attorney will be free from the dilly-dallying tactics characterizing the present official. As district attorney he will be the right man in the right place.
George S. Smith for coroner and public administrator has the proud distinction of never yet having had a kick from any of his subjects. He has held the office a single term, has given entire satisfaction, has no opposition on the democratic ticket, and will probably be elected unanimously. The departed rest in peace knowing that Smith is sitting upon their case in the coroner's office, and they attune the harp with added
